  1. We were out most of the day so I pulled out some pot roast and gravy I had in the freezer from a couple weeks ago. I made mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts to go with it. I make pot roast by browning the meat on all sides for about 5 minutes per side in a little olive oil. I add a couple chopped onions, a few cloves of peeled garlic, a cup of water...
  2. My advice--use dish cloths that you can wash daily. Take a clean one and wash your dishes first--and the pans that you use. The drying rack is fine--maybe stick yours towards the front to keep them together. Wash the rest of the dishes, clean the sink and dry and put away your dishes, silver, pans with a clean dish towel. For counters, use...
  3. You're sweet I don't have a problem at home--my husband eats gluten-free here. This was for 2 months over last summer where I stayed with our son during the time we were in the process of moving from Texas to New Jersey. My son is extremely careful where I am concerned, but I didn't want him to stop eating certain things in his own home.
  4. I have a dishwasher, and have always rinsed all the dishes very well and run them through together and it's fine. Last summer, I stayed at my son's home (part of the process of an out of state move) for 2 months without a dishwasher. What I found out about myself is that I was reacting to rinsing the dishes well and washing them together in the sink....
  5. I've never seen one that has gluten, although when I buy applesauce I always buy the "natural" variety and not anything flavored.
  6. Thanks for all of your help!!!!

  7. It's as if those who are more sensitive than the norm don't count.
  8. I most definately have had issues with Spectrum--both the oils and the solid shortening. I use either Carapelli or Phillipo Berio olive oil--extra light for cooking and baking, extra virgin for salads and flavoring.
  9. I get it at Whole Foods.
  10. Another soda that uses cane sugar is Boylans--my favorite. I can't tolerate artificial sweeteners, and won't use anything with HFCS.
  11. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    SO MUCH HAS CHANGED HERE

ODD I GOT ON TODAY AFTER A MONTH AND THERE YOU WERE

    HAVE A GREAT OPEN HOUSE..........

  12. I never had another panic attack after going gluten-free 4 years ago, but it was a good 18 months-2 years before the anxiety completely let up. I will still get anxious when accidentally glutened, but nothing like the way it was before. Truthfully, I didn't even realize how bad it was until it was gone--I had lived with it for so long. Give it time...
  13. They're not like Chapstick--they're more like a cross between a lipstick and gloss. They range in color from clear to very saturated deep reds and pinks. http://www.burtsbees.com/natural-products/...ip-shimmer.html The tocopherol they use is from soy.
  14. Burt's Bees lip shimmers are gluten-free. I see them at just about every drug store, even grocery stores now.
  15. Yep--I also go to Starbucks frequently, am super sensitive, and have not had a problem. I don't drink coffee, but I do get tea lattes a lot.
  16. Before I was diagnosed, I frequently felt that I needed to take deep breaths and when I would answer the phone people would ask me what I was doing because I sounded out of breath. My doctor told me that was a symptom of anemia (I was quite anemic at the time).
  17. My personal reaction to eggs was terrible nausea. It would hit like clockwork about 4 hours after I would eat them (delayed allergy). I think the best way to handle it would be to cut them out completely for say, 6 months, and then try a little if you want. It does take a while to figure all of this out--getting the gluten-free diet firstoff and...
  18. While I wouldn't call it "common", it's certainly not unusual for Celiacs to have additional food intolerances. I was very intolerant to eggs when I became gluten-free 4 years ago. After staying away from them for a while, I can now use them in recipes with absolutely no problem--I still can't eat them plain, as in scrambled eggs--although my reaction to...
  19. I'm absolutely fine with eggs in a recipe mixed with other ingredients, but I get nauseated if I eat them plain, as in scrambled eggs.
  20. Glad to be of help, Lisa. I finally got to the point where I kind of knew that there was something else at play concerning the BP. No matter how well I adhered to what I was told to do (take the meds, lose weight, etc) it never seemed to make a difference. You're right, it's disappointing and discouraging. I could never tolerate the Hydrochlorothizide...
  21. http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art...rticlekey=20242 http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jht...ntifier=3025171 http://diabetes.webmd.com/guide/insulin-resistance-syndrome Lisa--here are a few. I basically read everything I could find on this--both published articles and anecdotal. The thing is that 10 years ago when my BP was first...
  22. I noticed that I responded to this thread quite a while ago, so I wanted to update. I was on BP meds for years--I had to switch at one point due to side effects and then an allergy. My readings were ok at home--130's/80's for the most part but were much higher in the doctor's office--160/100 was not unusual. I recently cut out sugar and starchy...
  23. Had to pop back to see how you did--glad it went so well!
  24. Oh you poor thing--please try not to panic, it's going to be fine I've had it done twice--once with a colonoscopy thrown in ! It doesn't take long, you won't feel a thing, and when you wake up you'll feel like you just took the best nap. Honestly, you're going to be fine. Take a deep breath
