ARCHIVED Is Anyone Feeling Fine?!
tarnalberry replied to designerstubble's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This isn't always a super busy board, and you only gave people six hours to respond. Especially during the work day, you might not get a lot of fast responses. And your post has to be seen by the moderators so others can see it too, which takes time. That said, I'm feeling fine. I've been gluten free for... nine years? ten? (check my siggy) Dairy... -

ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Boy With Severe Constipation - Should He Be Back On Diet?

Did you also take him off and then reintroduce dairy? Because dairy is a common cause of constipation. -
ARCHIVED Being Pressured To Provide Food For Holiday Party
tarnalberry replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've never had anyone complain that I didn't eat food at a party. Gluten issues, other food allergies, and whatever aside, it's no one's business what I choose to put (or not put) in my mouth. I think parties are as much fun as you want them to be - whether you are eating food or not. Whether or not business parties are fun... well, that's an entirely... -
I mash up an avocado and use that instead of mayo in my tuna. Pretty tasty!

ARCHIVED Being Pressured To Provide Food For Holiday Party
tarnalberry replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it's really a "mandatory" potluck (and not an optional potluck), then yes, you should bring something. Bring a beverage (apple juice isn't expensive) and cups - you are contributing and can have what you bring with very little chance of contamination. Bring chips and serve yourself from the bag first. Bring anything you want that you can have an serve... -
Have you tried just tuna? Maybe it's the mayo you have a problem with?

ARCHIVED Mri Today- Yikes!
tarnalberry replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I totally understand that choice, and congrats! The other things can help - meditation too, but a day is not enough time to learn how to meditate enough for an MRI. -
ARCHIVED Mri Today- Yikes!
tarnalberry replied to livelifelarge24's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Something to cover your eyes, music to distract you, and focus on your breath. I have to have the seditives for MRI's (even the one that was a series over the course of three hours with contrast), though I can just manage open MRI's without it. Good luck! Why can't you do the sedatives? There are a variety of things that can help you out in there (I... -
Eat first, bring something, and have a drink. Then go for what is likely the whole point of the party - to socialize and be with friends/family.

ARCHIVED Anemic And Pregnant
tarnalberry replied to Texmexmama's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You may also be anemic from the pregnancy. You're body has been making a LOT more blood, and if you didn't have the iron stores previously to put enough into your new-made blood. Iron supplements are a good idea, as are iron rich foods (and avoiding calcium when you take your supplements or iron-rich foods, and taking vitamin C when you do have your supplements... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Did A Foolish Thing, And Now I'm Having Trouble
tarnalberry replied to jcp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The biggest part of the concern is when people stop eating fortified bread (which is a large source of folic acid for many people in the US). Of course, if you have a well balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, that's not a problem. -
ARCHIVED Post Birthing Tear
tarnalberry replied to Celiac Ninja's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
How long has it been? This is the sort of thing that takes a while to heal for some women. If it's only been a month, I wouldn't come close to worrying yet. You can also, once it's tolerable (though I didn't say comfortable) do a little bit of massage on the area to help prevent scar tissue from building so deeply and breaking it up a bit as it forms. ...- 8 replies

ARCHIVED For Those Who Are Self-Diagnosed...
tarnalberry replied to gatita's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. I had symptoms, and they tested for some vitamin issues. In particular, I ended up being diagnosed (correctly, I believe) with fibromyalgia and restless leg syndrome. I don't remember everything they tested for, but b12, D, and iron were in there, and I was low on iron stores. My husband had some of his vitamin levels checked as he's had trouble... -
ARCHIVED Not Trying Enough New Foods...scared Of Allergies..
tarnalberry replied to 123glldd's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
But there is no evidence you are more likely to develop actual allergies. Heck, I haven't even heard that on here. (Intolerances, yes, not allergies.) And if it's a fear that is making that big of an impact in your life, it's important to confront it and learn how to manage it. Heavens knows I would need help with that too! (As I have about other things... -
ARCHIVED Not Trying Enough New Foods...scared Of Allergies..
tarnalberry replied to 123glldd's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
So I'm going to be the crazy one who suggests talking to a psychologist about this phobia. If you do not have a family (or personal) history or allergies (and the reaction to the pizza you describe is NOT an allergic reaction), then this is not a rational phobia (<-- haha, I wasn't intending to sound quite like that), and it's negatively impacting your... -

ARCHIVED What Do My Test Results Mean?
tarnalberry replied to NStock's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your total IgA is low (you got a 78 when the normal range starts at 91). You might be IgA deficient. Your tTg IgA is positive (you got over 100 when a positive is anything over 3). Your deamidated IgA is positive (you got 53 when a positive is anything over 19). Very positive results here.- 7 replies
