  1. If you're taking that sort of dose, the liquid is WAY more convenient than trying to swallow a bunch of pills, and also much more cost effective. (My chiro recommended a 6g (yes, gram) per day dose for me given a number of issues. WAY easier to get it in liquid form than capsule.)
  2. I mean no offense, but what you describe is emotional abuse and controlling behavior. He is, in those situations, being an ass. He does not have motor control of your hands or your mouth. He does not choose for you. You do. Yes, you can choose to do what he says, but realize that it is still YOUR choice to do this. Even if it's to "make life easier...
  3. I also use the crystal. keep in mind that it is NOT an antipersperant. just a deodorant (keeps the bacteria that produce bad smells from growing for a little while). it really does work for me, for nearly the advertised 24 hours.
  4. Some people simply cannot be tested by our current batch of serum testing options. (Gluten sensitivity, for instance.) So, some people really do need to try the diet. That IS a VALID diagnostic test, and one that shouldn't be overlooked because "it's not your cup of tea". I don't want to discount your hesitancy - it's real and for reasons that are real...
  5. If your blood tests showed antibodies to gluten, it means that your body thinks it's worth attacking. Someone without celiac will test negative no matter how much gluten they eat. If the test included tTg, that means that you body is producing antibodies that attack itself - these are straight up autoimmune antibodies and note that your body is damaging...
  6. It may not be food related (the digestive system has plenty of acid all on its own). My friend's son (7 months) is very sensitive to poop being left on his behind, especially without some sort of barrier (usually just a simple oil).
  7. Sometimes poop will cause a diaper rash, regardless of other issues. It can get acidic, and that irritates the baby's bottom. Our daughter generally will get rashy from poop that isn't changed within half an hour (at the most).
  8. what worked best to remind me to take food with me when I'm out is forgetting to do so a few times and feeling like crap. works pretty well. when you have an hour or two on a day, make something naturally gluten free that you can have leftovers from - lentil soup, stir fry, etc. then you just have to pull something out of the fridge.
  9. It sounds (outside of the constipation) fairly classic for celiac (and the constipation is not abnormal for celiac). I would both consider getting her tested AND trying a strict gluten-free diet (after any testing you decide to do).
  10. While I find that curries and phad thai are usually safe, as Richard said - NEVER assume.
  11. I'm confused on dairy free but using lactaid. Lactaid is for going lactose free, which is not the same as dairy free, which around here especially refers to casein free. I think you're right to follow your intuition and see if there are other food issues. Is she in a daycare or preschool that has playdoh or other gluten containing things around her...
  12. No, rawhides are gluten free. (They are just pressed and dried skin.) They can, however, be dangerous for dogs who break off a piece and it ends up perforating their intestines. Some people choose not to use them because of this. (And some choose to use them and be observant. Not trying to say "don't do it", but want to make sure you know.)
  13. If it is celiac or gluten sensitivity as we know it, no she will not grow out of it. Thing is, with kids this young (I have an 11mo old), you can't really tell. Their digestive systems are immature and there are some difficult to digest proteins that they can't digest as well early as they can later. So, what she may react badly to now, she might be able...
  14. BTW, zinc oxide will ruin the absorbancy of cloth diapers. (It's REALLY hard to get out - stripping them *might* work.) You can use a liner (like the first two items here: Open Original Shared Link) (this is what we did), or temporarily use disposables. Oil based creams are fine with cloth diapers. What kind of cream works best depends on what the...
  15. It sounds like you are letting your husband hold your good health hostage. If he wants to put his desire for certain foods over your health... well, that's not very loving of him.
  16. Yes, adolescence, with the drastic hormone changes, is OFTEN a period of "silent" celiac when you don't really experience noticeable symptoms. Doesn't mean that it's in remission - damage to the intestines is likely still occurring.
  17. It's daunting because it's what you know. It's a habit. But, like any other habit, it can be changed, if you want to change it. You certainly are not symptomless - the hashimoto's is strongly correlated with celiac disease and so are multiple miscarriages. "Stomach" problems (really, intestinal) are not the only symptoms from celiac disease by any stretch...
  18. Tell him "The biologic immune reaction in her intestines, if it's gluten, will take two weeks just to stop injuring her intestines. Then, they have to heal so that she can absorb the calories she's putting in her mouth, but right now just pooping back out. That all will take more than two weeks." (Alternatively, you can say "well, I'm doing it for two...
  19. My approach - which is not right for everyone - would be to look him in the face and say: "Why are you being an ass? If you opened your eyes, you would see I'm sick. And even if you refused to acknowledge that, grow a pair and be an adult. That means respecting my choices, whether you like them or not, because they are my choices to make." (I also wouldn...
  20. Yeah, two weeks is how long the gluten reaction in the intestines carries on. Once she's been gluten free for two weeks, her intestines can begin to heal. AFTER they have healed, she can start to absorb more nutrients in order to put on weight. But her body has a lot to get through before she starts putting on weight.
  21. The genetic test doesn't, in the US, test for all of the genes associated with celiac, so - IMHO - it's kinda worthless. Being pregnant, I see NO reason to wait. There is only a potential negative to staying on gluten while pregnant if you might have celiac disease (antibodies attack the placenta and cross to the baby), and - assuming you choose to eat...
  22. Every pregnancy is different. It's quite possible that being on bed rest is making it harder to manage intake/expenditure. Have you gone over with your OB exactly how strict of bedrest you are on?
  23. That's pretty common. Are you able to find a good, meditative rhythm during your running or are you usually pushing your edge to get more distance/speed? You might try backing off on the prep right now, and find a groove so that you can release fewer stress hormones (one of which is adrenaline) and more relaxation hormones. It would be a different "type...
  24. I plan .... usually 30 minutes ahead.
