  1. Yes, absolutely! Those are VERY common symptoms with celiac disease. Not only those, but depression, schizophrenia and bi-polar as well as AD(H)D can be caused by celiac disease. Any amount of mental problems could all be due to celiac disease, as well as joint and muscle pain, neuropathies, psoriasis, eczema, 'growing pains' (there really is no such a...
  2. Oh, not another ignorant GI doctor! They really should know better. At least 40% of people with celiac disease are overweight, because unexplained weight gain can also be a symptom of malnourishment due to malabsorption. The reason is, that your body will try converting everything it can manage to absorb into fat, because you really are starving! And...
  3. Oh, about potassium........ there are foods out there that have more potassium than bananas, like watermelon for example. But yes, you can get too much calcium, most people need to supplement more with magnesium, because those two need to be balanced. If you don't have enough vitamin D though, you can use neither the calcium nor the magnesium, because...
  4. Well, some of the most common nutritional deficiencies (due to malabsorption) that come with celiac disease are magnesium and B12, either one (or both) could be causing the foot cramping. It is advisable that your husband start taking a good vitamin B complex, vitamin D (best taken as cod liver oil, the Carlson brand is great and doesn't taste fishy) and...
  5. You will need to PM Scott (admin) with your request, he is the only one who can do that.
  6. The good old standby that works like a charm is prune juice or stewed prunes (you can find both in any grocery store). And you KNOW that it won't have any side effects!
  7. Did you have the testing done AFTER you were gluten-free for a few weeks? If the answer is yes, then the testing was utterly useless and doesn't mean a thing. Because for the test results to be valid, you have to be eating gluten every day, and can't start the diet until after the blood is drawn. It seems to me that your results are false negatives. What...
  8. Well, but you know that with general anesthetic you REALLY don't remember a thing..... and some people apparently say crazy things while under. Meaning, that they aren't totally unconscious either. Of course, I have known my dentist for more than fifteen years, and trust him completely. He is almost a friend as well as my dentist. My girls used to babysit...
  9. Ken, if tomatoes give you GERD, I say that you are likely intolerant to them and shouldn't eat tomatoes at all. I get acid reflux from tomatoes as well (plus migraines), and I have been confirmed intolerant to the nightshade family, including tomatoes.
  10. At the base of your finger nails you are supposed to have white half moons.
  11. You were asking what people use besides dairy........ actually, dairy may be the problem! It is known to CAUSE constipation, not alleviate it. Personally I've always found that prune juice, or stewed prunes take care of constipation very quickly.
  12. Since this part of my reply was ignored I want to repeat: I get VERY BAD acid reflux when glutened. So bad that I would be unable to sleep before a doctor in Germany prescribed NUX VOMICA for me last summer. It is amazing stuff. When I start getting acid reflux and/or heartburn, I let five of those pellets dissolve under my tongue. Within five minutes...
  13. Well, here goes my take: You have severe malabsorption. Not good, and it indicates that your villi are in bad shape, maybe flat already. You may be IgA deficient, hence that reading is low. You have one of the officially recognized celiac disease genes, and one of the gluten sensitive genes. I say you better be 100% gluten-free as of right now...
  14. Casein is the protein found in dairy. It is in all dairy, milk, cheese, yogurt, butter....... anything made from milk. And it also hides in a lot of processed foods, unfortunately. So, when I say it would be better to eliminate dairy for a while, that is what I mean. ALL of it. Wal-Mart seems a good place to start, I hear that in the States you can...
  15. Hi, and welcome to these boards. That you appear to be addicted to bread and milk is already a good indication that you are likely intolerant to both of those. Your symptoms are very telling as well. If you plan on getting proper testing done, make sure you don't eliminate gluten from your diet until after you are done with testing. Because otherwise you...
  16. I have the moons only on my thumb nails. I have been tested, and my vitamin B12 levels are perfect (or so it appears).
  17. Hi Ashley, and welcome to these boards. What you need to do now is eliminate dairy and soy as well as gluten (and be extremely strict on the gluten-free diet), because they will stop you from healing and could be the reason for the continuing diarrhea. You also need to make a doctor's appointment asap to have blood work done to check for nutritional deficiencies...
  18. You can try dairy after three to six months on a gluten-free diet. If you react, you shouldn't keep having it. Some people here took a year before they could have dairy again, but many are casein intolerant (not just lactose intolerant) and can't ever have it.
  19. Apparently you have a gluten sensitivity without destroyed villi (at least not yet). In order for you to stay healthy, you need to be on a gluten-free diet. As simple as that.
  20. Steve, I clearly remember when you went to your brother's wedding (if I recall correctly) and being glutened by your mother with codex bread to the point where you weren't rational and swore you'd never stay at your mother's house again. And now you have chosen to poison yourself with that same stuff, and wondering why you aren't well? Obviously you...
  21. Dextrose is usually derived from corn. I had a Wendy's chocolate frosty the other day and didn't get glutened, so I believe it is gluten-free.
  22. Hi Wendy, and welcome to these boards. I am glad you have come out of denial and are on the road to recovery by sticking to a gluten-free diet. Is your doctor doing anything about your iron? You may not be able to absorb iron pills at this point and may need iron injections for a while until your intestines heal enough to just take the iron from your food...
  23. Your pediatrician is extremely ignorant when it comes to nutrition. There is never any good reason to feed a baby anything but breast milk until a year old, definitely not before eight months. Babies will have iron stores to last them until 12 months old, at which point they are old enough to eat meat to get their iron. They ABSOLUTELY do not need iron from...
  24. Yikes, drinking that much water at one time is definitely overburdening your kidneys and is a dangerous thing to do. Your body cannot take up more than one cup of water an hour. And yes, withdrawal symptoms are extremely common when first eliminating gluten. A lot of us (maybe even most) were addicted to gluten foods. I loved German rye bread and didn...
  25. I've tried the Glutino mix, and have had raves from people who aren't gluten-free.
