  1. Brian, I am sorry you now have another thing to worry about. Could it be the IV feeding? I can't imagine that IV feeding is healthy long-term.
  2. My eyes used to always itch like that. I figured out that I'd get that problem after rubbing my eyes. Switching to gluten-free soap resolved it. Apparently, wheat germ oil in soap was affecting me negatively.
  3. I say that it would be an awfully big coincidence if all of those positive changes were for any other reason than taking gluten out of your diet. It is very likely that you have non-celiac gluten intolerance. Also, there are so many false negatives with celiac disease testing, that celiac disease isn't really ruled out despite those negative tests. And...
  4. Mark, Deb's advice is excellent. Also, I don't understand why your wife can't cook your dinners gluten-free? It is the easiest thing to do, and my gluten-free dinners are just like any other dinner, nobody would ever know the difference. Meat, potatoes, rice and vegetables are gluten-free anyway. Gravy can be thickened with corn starch or light buckwheat...
  5. Hi, and welcome to these boards. Well, first of all the milk chocolate might be the problem. You may have to give up dairy for a little while, because you probably did damage to your intestines all these years of eating gluten. If your villi are damaged, they can't produce the enzyme lactase which allows you to digest dairy. Your intestinal tract is healing...
  6. I have read (on a medical site, don't remember which) that gluten can cause infertility in both men and women. So, while I very much doubt that there will be gluten in sperm, causing YOU to be infertile as a result, gluten could cause HIM to be infertile! Putting hubby on a gluten-free diet to see if it works is much easier (not to mention thousands of...
  7. You could have her tested by Enterolab, then at least you would also know her genes. One of my granddaughters (now 18 months, at time of testing 15 months) had five complete blowouts a day, all the way up her back. A naturopathic doctor tested her, and found her being intolerant to all gluten grains, but she also had this bacteria in her gut that didn...
  8. I suggest you go to the hardware store (or a pharmacy) and get a package of face masks. Put one on when you put the wheat flour into a double plastic bag (preferably outside, not in your house). Then you tie up the bag securely and throw it in the trash. On the other hand, if you have a friend or relative who wants it, transfer the flour into their own...
  9. From what you are saying, you really know, deep down, that Michael has celiac disease as well. Infant reflux is a common symptom of celiac disease, too. I would take him off gluten as soon as his blood has been taken and forget about the GI. You really don't want to wait until he gets really ill and stops growing! And with his food not digesting, it is...
  10. Gemini, there are people here who used to think like you. They never bothered with gluten-free personal care products and didn't understand why they didn't get 100% well on the gluten-free diet. And their numbers were down, too. Until finally they grudgingly decided to exchange their gluten containing personal care products for gluten-free ones. And bingo...
  11. It looks like you definitely have celiac disease. But just because your daughter doesn't have an 'official' (here in North America anyway) gene, doesn't mean that she can't have celiac disease as well. In any case, you are right that it doesn't matter. Neither one of you should be eating gluten (and that is for life), because it makes you sick. And since...
  12. You click on 'My Controls' above. Then you find on the left "Change Personal Photo" and click on that. You go to 'browse', find the one on your computer you want (you may have to resize it first), click on 'Upload Photo', and you are done.
  13. After being told I was a hypochondriac, and nothing was really wrong with me (and at the same time being really ill for 50 years), I self-diagnosed myself and started the gluten-free diet. And I have no intentions of EVER going back! My two oldest daughters and their children are gluten-free now, with amazing results in them and their kids. My youngest...
  14. It sounds to me like you need to make your house gluten-free, for your sake. If the caretaker of the family is constantly ill from contamination, she won't do a very good job of taking care of everybody else. So, it is for their best as well as yours to be gluten-free at least at home. And in reality, it is extremely likely that at least some, if not all...
  15. I can use regular bandaids only on spots with thicker skin, like hands and feet. Everywhere else I have to use bandaids for sensitive skin. And the only medical tape that works is the paper tape. I get terribly itchy, huge, bright red welts, psoriasis and/or eczema from regular bandaids, that can take up to a YEAR to go away! It is never less than several...
  16. She could have gotten glutened from flour still floating around in the air (yes, that is possible, which is why there is no gluten flour allowed in my house). Plus, I don't think we told you that some people get horrible withdrawal symptoms when eliminating gluten, which can last up to two weeks. My daughter certainly did. Which is why, after a week...
  17. I agree with Tiffany here. Even if you don't THINK you ever react to any of your personal care products, how do you know that the minuscule amounts you inadvertently ingest (and yes, there is no way you don't) won't cause damage down the road through their cumulative effect? If you use shampoo and/or conditioner containing gluten, do you wash your hands...
  18. Yes, it isn't unusual for people with celiac disease to be misdiagnosed with Crohn's. If your blood work was elevated for every single one of the celiac disease tests, it is highly unlikely that it was because of having Crohn's! After you have had your biopsy (and I mean immediately after, without waiting for results) you ought to do a gluten-free diet...
  19. Glutano is a German brand, and they make really nice cookies and little cakes/muffins. I like the big cookies with the chocolate filling. Their crackers are okay, but not fabulous. Glutino cake mixes are great. They also have other nice stuff. I like the MiDel animal crackers, they are pretty good. Gorilla crunch cereal from Envirokids is pretty...
  20. Those genes have not been officially recognized as causing gluten intolerance by the medical community at large. But many here have them, and have terrible reactions to gluten, my own youngest daughter included (and since she is my kid, I probably have those same genes, or at least one of them, as well). Those 'official' celiac disease genes are NOT the...
  21. I just want to say that we can't make 'stickies' that stay up at the top. We do pin every new post, though (if it doesn't violate board rules, that is), putting it temporarily at the top, until another post gets pinned, or gets a reply. It sounds like an interesting experiment. But how would anybody know what works and what doesn't, without purposely taking...
  22. Personally, I hate gravy made with corn starch and rice flour (too much like pudding). I use light buckwheat flour for thickening gravy, and nobody can notice the difference from gravy thickened with wheat flour.
  23. Hi Christina, and welcome to our boards. Well, all the things you were told were supposed to be normal were definitely NOT normal, and should have prompted the pediatrician to do testing on her. Every one of those symptoms are very common in kids with celiac disease. I am glad you figured it out by default, and that she is doing so much better. Good thing...
  24. It depends. If the gluten intolerance was a symptom secondary to another disease like Lyme Disease, then it is caused by a leaky gut, which will heal with Lyme Disease treatment. If the celiac disease/gluten intolerance is the cause of the symptoms without anything else causing them, then no, you can't outgrow it. He couldn't tolerate dairy for a while...
  25. Oh Shan, I am so sorry. I had eight miscarriages and had no clue what gluten was at the time. Yes, miscarriages are one common symptom of celiac disease. Your blood test result could well have been a false negative (those blood tests are not very accurate and yield false negatives all the time). I understand how sad you must be right now. Please, before...
