  1. I have a friend that celebrates Birthday Month so no reason you can't celebrate Celiac month
  2. With numbers that high on the blood tests there is no reason to "confirm" a diagnosis with an endoscope. If you were 22 out of a high of 20 and all of your other tests were in the normal range, yes, I'd get a scope but with numbers over 100, nope.
  3. That is just crazy...glad I can just call and get an appointment when I need one!!
  4. I'm out of town for Halloween this year--makes me sad. I love Halloween. We never limited how much candy they could eat out of their bags. The first couple days they would eat a lot, then the novelty would wear off and they would have a piece or two here and there. Usually ended up tossing some of the candy somewhere around Easter .
  5. I bring cheese and crackers with various fresh veges often (pea pods, tomatoes, etc.), salami or other gluten-free lunch meat if I have some. Apples and peanut butter is surprisingly filling as well. Cottage cheese with peaches or mandarin oranges. Leftovers from the night before. I'm not a fan of sandwiches so I rarely bring one. I often bring a salad...
  6. Those numbers are very conclusive..sorry, your nutritionist is just wrong. I am overweight, had every test come back positive. There is no question I have Celiac. Not everyone with Celiac is underweight. Your numbers are high enough that there is no question you have Celiac. My insurance does not cover nutritional counseling for any condition other...
  7. I was going to say the same thing as Beth. Celiac is an autoimmune disorder, of course it affects your immune system. What is your Dr's specialty? It doesn't sound like he is very familiar with Celiac. DH commonly affects knees and elbows but it can happen anywhere! One of my biggest symptoms was being tired all the time. That has gotten much better...
  8. I like Shopwell too. It's a better tool to say that yes, this has Gluten vs no, this does not. I like that you can customize the app to search out ingredients you do not want, gluten, soy, dairy, etc. It will flag questionable items as having gluten--some of those vague chemical named things. Sometimes they are gluten, sometimes they are not but at least...
  9. Found two very Celiac friendly places in Myrtle Beach. First was Captain George's Seafood Buffet--yes Buffet!! Open Original Shared Link , When you let your server know you have food allergies, Celiac, etc. they bring the manager over to your table, he walks you through the buffet line and shows you what is safe and what is not. The salad bar has one...
  10. You can sign up for a non-exchange private plan since you lost your coverage..you can sign up for a non-exchange private plan anytime really. Get some quotes from a couple bigger insurance companies in your area and sign up for coverage. Most companies will have temporary plans, meant to last between 30 days and 3 months, that you could get as well but...
  11. What tests were done and what were your results?
  12. How long had you been off gluten when you had your bloodwork done? I'm surprised they did not tell you to continue to eat gluten until that test was done. Did you tell your dr that you were gluten-free when they performed the bloodwork? Are you going to Mayo in Rochester? Do you see Dr. Murray or someone else? I would say that you have Celiac based on...
  13. You can also use corn starch to make gravy. It's sure a lot less expensive than the gluten-free flours and you don't need as much because it thickens faster. It doesn't clump up as easily as flour too. Before I knew I had Celiac, Celiac relatives would come to our house for holidays. They would scrutinize everything I made and other than using flour in...
  14. Really?? The Udi loafs are TINY to start with! Even at $3.99, it's not that much more than buying two Udi's loafs though. I don't like multigrain bread though so I guess I'll have to just stick with my Udi white bread. Aldi, for the size stores they are, have a huge selection of gluten-free products though.
  15. I stopped by Aldi today to look for bread. They didn't have this gluten-free bread everyone is raving about. I am out of bread. I stopped by the regular grocery store and they were out of the Udi bread...
  16. What is he taking for his asthma? Several inhalers can cause the mouth sores if he is not rinsing his mouth well after using them. The cough could also be related to his asthma and maybe needs a med adjustment.
  17. Nice to see the improvement!! Heartburn was one of the first things I noticed that went away. I've taken Tums once since I went gluten-free and that was more precautionary. I even had some grapefruit juice yesterday not long before I went to bed. That would have given me heartburn without question a few months ago, nothing last night at all.
  18. Your symptoms could just be hormonal too. If not eating gluten makes you feel better, then don't eat it. You don't need a diagnosis to change your diet. If your TSH is in the normal range, it's normal. What was your reading and what was the range given by the lab? Yes, the emotional issues can be associated with Celiac but it's really uncommon not to...
  19. The pharmacist called the manufacturer, it is a generic med. The pharmacist said that since they know that brand is gluten-free they would note that in my record and when I got my refills, they would order that brand. The mail order pharmacist also called and got the same answer. It was the same "brand" at both pharmacies.
  20. I just posted a similar post about me. I'm a little over 2 months into this and seem to have gone backwards. I know I haven't had anything with gluten as well. Others replied that they had a similar experience around the same time so I just let it slide that it was normal.
  21. I can hardly wait until I can have oatmeal again. I miss that for breakfast.
  22. Thanks, I will....I read labels, I watch what I eat, mostly whole foods....but, if I'm not sure what an ingredient is, it's going back on the shelf....so be it. If Kraft wants to keep CYA'ing, hey, more power to them, I'll buy something else....
  23. The new FDA rule says that if they are using the gluten-free label it must be less than 20 PPM...I posted that a long time ago along with a link to the FDA site--you seem to keep skipping over that part....I never said they were required to test. I said if they were using the gluten-free label it had to meet FDA guidelines of 20 PPM or less....and yes, if...
  24. I cut one in half the long way, lightly spritz with olive oil and add some Parmesan cheese. I bake at 350 for about 15 minutes or so and then finish under the broiler to brown the cheese. It's very good and juicy when done. I love zucchini!! You could add some spices, pepper, garlic, etc. if you wanted too. I've done a variety of things but this is my...
  25. So, now you are saying that even companies that test their products (Amy's) is not gluten-free????
