  1. There are gluten-free breads and crackers. Cookies--not so much. I like the gluten-free crackers a lot actually. The bread, toasted is fine. Still working on good cookies though...
  2. Has anyone eaten at one? I see on the Find Me gluten-free app that they are GiG Trained but that doesn't always mean anything. I know it varies by location but overall, safe?
  3. There is a bad stomach virus going around. It could be that. With his scope in just a few days, cutting back on gluten now should be ok. With high blood test results, there is no doubt that he is Celiac. The scope is just a back up--and just keep in mind, if his damage isn't all that severe, they might miss it in the biopsy, but the blood work is pretty...
  4. Just because they offer a "gluten free" meal, doesn't mean it is prepared to avoid cross contamination. I wouldn't trust the school to ensure everything was gluten-free, especially if they are only preparing it for one child or a few children. A lot of schools do not provide lunch at all. Where is the "law" that they must provide a hot lunch. As...
  5. From what I understood, it was their own mixture. I think the Pamela's note on there is an ad.
  6. Open Original Shared Link This is where I had the potato flour gluten-free pancakes. Maybe they can be of assistance!! They were VERY good!! My daughter liked them better than her regular pancakes even.
  7. Another thing to consider is that many people with Celiac can not tolerate oats. I was also told no oats for the first year after diagnosis as well. I recently ate at a restaurant that had gluten-free pancakes (hotcakes) and they used potato flour. They were very good! Maybe look into doing that?
  8. You are trying to make gluten into a germ or similar. It is not. I would be similar to thinking that cooking oats would turn it into something else. Unfortunately, it's not the case. I was told no oats for the first year for a couple reasons, first, it's similar to wheat/barley/rye and can irritate your damaged intestines. Second, since oats are often...
  9. The Betty Crocker mix is no where near as sticky as the Glutino stuff I tried before!! It's still a little sticky but responded better to oiled hands . It's par-baking right now so we will see how it tastes in a while. Ok--it was ok. Just not like regular pizza crust. It was a bit dry and flaky but it is what it is with gluten-free flours I guess.
  10. I got some Betty Crocker pizza dough mix so I'm going to try that tonight. I've been craving pizza but other than the frozen stuff, I don't have anywhere to get real pizza near me.
  11. Our meat market in our grocery store makes rotisserie chicken and a few other things like that, behind the meat counter. She didn't say anything about cooking meat?
  12. Well, gluten isn't only found in wheat and cross contamination at a meat counter is very common since many meat counters also sell seasoned meat options, stuffed meat options and breaded meat options. Even at my wonderful, locally owned grocery store that employs real butchers in the meat department, CC is an issue.
  13. I'd be mortified if my child went to someone's house T or T'ing and asked for specific candy. If they had issues with food for whatever reason, we'd deal with that at home. Health conscious or not, it's just rude. I think the cartoon is more related to the turn our society is making into the the "all about me" mentality people have.
  14. As far as procedures go, the endoscope is pretty "easy". It's light sedation, quick procedure and usually they will feel 100% shortly after waking up. I'd do the scope if your dr says just because I know other people who've had issues with getting accommodations and whatnot in school if they are not "biopsy confirmed" Celiac----why, I don't know.
  15. Have they tested blood sugar levels? Has anyone looked into this? Open Original Shared Link
  16. McCormicks is fine and no CC worries. I also have some Weber steak seasonings that are very good and gluten-free.
  17. Travel is very hard!!! I also travel quite a bit, mostly by car. I tried one of those plug in coolers for the car but it doesn't work so that is frustrating. That food dehydrator is something I'm considering. My last round of trips I was at 3 different airports and not one of them any any gluten-free options. I ended up getting some yogurt at the newsstand...
  18. The trouble is she is a sub, not a regular employee and covering a class might be an issue depending on the availability of other teachers. I have to agree that just because there is some protection under the ADA, it doesn't mean what you are asking is protected. I think it's a bit silly not to give keys to the bathroom but whatever. I think you just need...
  19. My guess is she is "different" from her friends now and doesn't want to be. It's hard at that age. It's probably going to get to the point where she is really sick before she really understands what is going on. Maybe have her visit your GI and let the GI talk to her about how serious this can be for her. They often listed better to other people. Maybe...
  20. I have some McCormick spice mixes that are fine. Penzey's (online or retail stores) confirmed their spice blends are gluten-free. Whole spices, not blends, are naturally gluten-free.
  21. You didn't actually swallow the crust that may or may not have had gluten in it. 10 seconds in your mouth, spitting it out and then brushing your teeth was probably good enough to not actually get gluten into your system to get it into your stomach to then move to your intestines where it could cause damage or a reaction. I think you will be fine.
  22. Yes, It's a done deal. If you didn't need the scope I would say skip it. Generally they suggest staying on gluten until all testing is complete but you aren't going to heal in a couple weeks after years of damage..or you might just have light damage so far. Either way, with the rash and the tests, welcome to the club.
  23. Way back when we were first married, I used to make waffles on weekends. I think I used a pancake/waffle mix in a box--I'm old, it was a long time ago . One morning I had everything ready to go and discovered I didn't have any milk. I had water or orange juice..so I tried the orange juice. It was really good. I continued to make them with OJ for several...
  24. I have a travel coffee pot that would work if there isn't a microwave. Just run the water through without any coffee grounds . Could have used this for lunch today--at a hotel, go to the hotel restaurant---I can get a salad or a salad. They have one dressing that is gluten-free. I'm on someone else's dime so I had to eat here or pay for my own....
  25. Those are your results from 2010, correct? I think it's good you are getting retested but the Marsh 1 findings for your biopsy is a pretty strong indicator of Celiacs. Hopefully your appointment is soon.
