ARCHIVED Now What?
lonewolf replied to hannahsue01's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree with the others. A negative test doesn't mean you don't have a problem with gluten. My gene test came back negative for the main Celiac genes and my doctor told met that I couldn't possibly have Celiac. I had already been gluten-free and I knew it made me feel a lot better, so I had to decide that how I felt gluten-free was more important than... -
ARCHIVED Waffles/breakfast
lonewolf replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried it once, years ago. I spent an awfully long time trying to scrape the "waffles" out of my waffle iron. -
Are Ener-G's prices better at their store than online? Their online prices are more expensive than buying their stuff at the regular store, quite often. I love some of their stuff and want to try their new pretzels that are soy-free. Would it be worth a trip next time I'm heading into Seattle?

ARCHIVED Need gluten-free, Dairy-free, Egg-free Dessert Recipes
lonewolf replied to Anya78's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have made lots of desserts without gluten, eggs and dairy. It is possible. Here are a few suggestions before I go find my recipe file and give you a few more. Chocolate chip cookies: use Spectrum Natural shortening instead of butter, gluten-free flour, and flax seed meal/Ener-G egg replacer for eggs. Apple (or peach or berry) Crisp: use crispy rice... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Misdiagnosed?
lonewolf replied to probonohoe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm so sorry your husband is going through this. If he can't get anyone to test him for Celiac, I would suggest trying a gluten-free diet and maybe getting some basic tests done through Enterolab. I'm not one to think that continuing to eat gluten just so some tests may come back positive is a good idea. I hope this is the answer! BTW-I was told I had... -
ARCHIVED Waffles/breakfast
lonewolf replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I make pancakes and waffles all the time from scratch. (The only difference between pancakes and waffles for me is the amount of oil - I only put in 2-3 Tbs for pancakes.) Waffles 1 Egg 2 C Milk or rice milk 1/2 C oil, melted butter or melted coconut oil Beat the wet ingredients together well, add: 1-1/2 C gluten-free Flour (See what I use... -
Tavi - don't worry, we'll "grandfather" you in. I don't have the heart to call you an ish - you've been through too much already. Julie - thanks for the laugh! Carla - glad you've had some good days all in a row! Susan - do they make dark chocolate nuggets? Wait, maybe I should hope they don't. Andrea - an off the wall question. Is...

For me, I weigh the pro's and con's of cheating. I will NEVER cheat with gluten - it's just not worth it. The only soy I eat is soy lecithin in things like chocolate chips (can't afford the Enjoy Life ones), which is a once in a while thing. I have never noticed a reaction to lecithin, but if I did, I would probably cut it out too. I cheat with eggs...

ARCHIVED Rosarita Vegetarian Refried Beans?
lonewolf replied to amber-rose's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We eat them all the time and have never had a problem. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know How To Roast Pumpkin Seeds?
lonewolf replied to NicoleAJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I always roast mine with butter or olive oil, worcestershire sauce and garlic. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Meatballs?
lonewolf replied to NicoleAJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I usually use crispy rice cereal instead of breadcrumbs. When I make Swedish meatballs I use Ener-G Light tapioca bread crumbled up while it's still soft. -
That was a GOOD piece! Penguin - welcome back!

We saw a family movie called "Facing the Giants". It was a low-budget movie with a few bright spots - the boys really liked it because it was mostly about football. My girls and I want to see "The Guardian" tomorrow. "Employee of the Month" looked pretty good in the previews. Did he get his gluteus maximus out of here yet?

ARCHIVED Where's The Most Inconvenient Place You've Realized You've Been Glutened
lonewolf replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got glutened at a restaurant and then hubby and I went for a long walk on a public trail with no bathrooms and no woods to hide in. We finally made it around to the softball fields and I got into the bathroom just before the janitor was going to close them. I was really embarrassed that I didn't make it out in two minutes or less and my husband was... -
Yay Rachel! I'm so glad you're here! I mellowed a bit after 30 too, but am still more comfy in sweats and tennies than dresses and heels. I was at work today and missed all the fun. Now I'm heading to a movie with the family. Have a good weekend everyone!

I am totally laughing at you all! I was just gone a few hours and had like 7 pages to catch up on. Wait, why did we let a 31 year old man post that many times on our thread? Oh well, at least he's entertaining. I do love his son's curly red hair... Oogling, googling, the pill, haircuts, Gray's anatomy, square pegs, Fabio (he's just NOT my type - give...

You can make your own with rice - just put rice in a clean sock, tie the end, stick it in the microwave for 1-1/2 minutes and you have a gluten-free hot pack.

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
lonewolf replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
You'd be very welcome! We'll just consider you an "ish". (You know, like 40-ish.) -
I hope he's outgrown it! I completely agree with you - eggs are way harder to live without than gluten. All of the good gluten-free stuff either has eggs or the recipes call for eggs. I hope you get good news!

Carla, I love your avatar. Everytime I look at your husband it makes me laugh. Was he just being cheesy for the camera? Patti - thanks. My job-share partner kept the desk organized and kept things going pretty well. But I have zillions of things to do with trying to get progress reports out and organize the upcoming basketball season.

Hi everyone, Checking in from my desk at work. I'm sufficiently recovered from my surgery to go back to school (I'm a teacher and athletic director) and am now here on my day off catching up on all kinds of stuff that didn't get done while I was laying on the couch and sitting at my computer at home. Susan - sorry your hair is too short, at least...

Shalia - I've been off soy for 10 years. It's a hard one, but it's doable. Believe me, I'd rather be intolerant to soy than eggs! Eggs are the one food, even above gluten, that I'd like back. Andrea - I'm curious to know if you react to soy lecithin. I was told that it was okay and I have never reacted to it as far as I know. The reason I'm asking...
