  1. I was just thinking about posting this question! I'm also going to Florida soon, and was wondering about just buying a cheap toaster to bring down with me (figuring if I did a lot of shopping I could abandon it for the way home). The toaster bags, while a great idea, won't work as I'm in a hotel and they won't provide me with a toaster. But the bags sound...
  2. YaHooo... great news!
  3. I have one available but haven't set it up yet (I know, I know). I have a friend who's a CPA and I asked her about claiming the food on our taxes - I'd heard a rumor about that. She looked into it and said that essentially I could if it's over so much percentage of my income but she can't imagine a bigger red flag to the IRS. I did however run into a...
  4. It does get better; remember it took a long time for your body to get ths sick - it will take a while for it to heal. But before you know it, you'll start having better hours, then days... Keep a detailed journal of how you're feeling so you can reflect back and compare how bad you were feeling on day 2, versus day 12. I was probably 3 or 4 weeks into...
  5. BYO bread, nut butter, Progresso Chicken Wild Rice Soup. Is there a natural grocery store in town?
  6. I have a lot of insomnia too. But it's getting much better (I did start an anti-depressent - not that I'm recommending that for you, but it sure helped mine!) Mine was anxiety induced and just kept getting worse. Some of the things that have helped was a deep breathing exercise - just listen to your breath go in and out... say a mantra if you have... and...
  7. Been dairy free since August too
  8. Just wondering if anyone has any experience or opinions about muscous in stools? Is it something to worry about? I've been having the occasional loose/mucousy stool - usually once a day, always in the afternoon and almost always at work. (Stress?) I do keep a food log and the only thing I can see that might have a correlation is apples. Do apples give...
  9. Don't worry about the grossness of the question - if you look at other posts you'll see many poop related ones. And, yes - this happens to me a lot. Then sometimes I have the opposite problem of just, say, sitting here at work and it's like NOW, gotta go NOW - get out of my way.... Neither one is fun, but the urgent ones drive me crazy!!
  10. My experience was very good - she was a real blessing. IMO you just need to research ahead of time - ask questions about her background, if she has experience with Gluten Free and if not maybe there's someone she could recommend. We're so used to reading labels - read her label before you go in.
  11. The Gluten Free Pantry has a *great* pie-crust mix!!
  12. My boss graciously threw a pizza holiday luncheon - and there are TWO of us who don't eat wheat. I was very busy that day, so I asked them to start without me - then I came in a bit later with my own food. But - if you've got a meeting... that's a bit tougher. I'm getting very good and just keeping it short and simple with a "no, thanks" when offered...
  13. I think one of the things you need to remember is that every body is different and reacts differently to every food. My experience may be totally different then what you're having. (If you've ever been pregnant, it's very similar - everyone will give you their story but you have to sort through it all and find the best answer for you.) Yes, read everything...
  14. YES! YES! YES! I usually bring left-overs, which I used to completely avoid, but now I actually plan to have enough for lunch tomorrow. I do keep an emegency supply of Progresso Chicken Wild Rice soup in my drawer in case I forget or just can't stand my planned lunch. How about we trade some lunch ideas - besides leftovers? I like to make the Bette...
  15. And you may want to consider other food intollerences - soy, dairy, corn, etc. I'd recommend keeping a food log so you can try and find a relation from foods and meds you've had to symptoms. I still sometimes have D and sometimes it's hard to find what triggred it - but maybe it's just something that happened and is part of the healing process. Stress...
  16. Are there any nuts you can tolerate? When I first started the gluten-free lifestyle, my dietician encouraged me to eat a small serving of nuts (almonds, cashews, peanuts, etc.) with each meal saying that the fats in the nuts help to digest the food more slowly and then it stays with you longer so you're not as hungry again so quickly. When I first started...
  17. I've never been able to tolerate Nutrasweet.
  18. Explaining to people that -surprise!- white bread IS made from wheat flour... duh... Great post!!
  19. I like the regular white rice sandwich bread, the tapioca flour Italian sandwich bread is good too. You've got to order the KToo's oreo-style cookies - yummy!! I tried the chocolate covered donuts too and those were good. The items do not come frozen - but you should freeze the breads, esp. if you're ordering in bulk. If you're going to be doing this...
  20. I forgot breakfast - a Bacon Egg and Cheese Biscuit from McD's... oh, ok 2 of them then
  21. I have never heard of rice cheese before - where did you find it and how was it? Are you watching to see if you're having a soy problem too? I get gluten/casein free bread from Celiac Specialties or kniciknick (spelled wrong again!) - both are pretty good. Yes, you pay for shipping - but buy lots and freeze it. To me it's worth adding a small shipping...
  22. Touch choice... either a Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza (which is so funny, I rarely ate it before but it's the one food I dream about) OR the Gnocchi Sorrento and garlic bread made by the little straight-from-Italy Italian guy's hole in the wall place near my house. And a chocolate shake!! Drool...
  23. It is very hard in the beginning, I also went Dairy Free - and Dairy is my favorite food group hands down!! It's very challenging at first. You have to read and question ***everything***. Did you know "regular" soy sauce has wheat? Also, wheat was in three different forms in my shampoo, in my hair spray and my foot lotion!! Read as much as you can...
  24. I just started on an anti-depressant a few weeks ago. I've fought taking them for a long time, worried about side-effects, thinking the anxiety and depression would get better (and sometimes it did). Sunlight is a big factor for me I'm learning, and I do feel better when I exercise - all true. But right after Thanksgiving, I was really struggling....
  25. Blue cheese was one of the first foods I noticed an instant adverse reaction too - and I love it! But it's just not worth it to me.
