  1. Hi! I'm a single mom, who works full time and goes to school. So I like to date, but it doesn't happen very often... anywho... when I do date, I don't make it an issue. It's just part of who I am, that's the way that it is. I don't mention it until it comes up either. No point in going into all that if they're not going to be around for it to naturally...
  2. I get my bacon from Market Day, which is kind of like a Shawns. You can order on-line (with nifty gluten free symbols right on the items!) and pick it up at a local school or church - and it's a fundraisor too!
  3. I think that life offers risks to all of us, on many different levels. Teaching your kids about every day practices (hand washing, no putting your fingers in your mouth, etc.) is great... but there is such a thing as being to worried about it.
  4. Oh, I would only send her on a direct flight. And fortunately we're in a major airport with a straight shot to Orlando, with pretty good rates (although I think her dad should pay). thanks for your advice, I will certainly take it under consideration.
  5. To give you the short version, my ex has recently relocated to Orlando. We're trying to work out a visitation, but one of the few options we have is to let our 9 year old daughter (she'll be 10 in August) fly as an unaccompied minor. Frankly, this idea does not thrill me.... but before I completely kill this idea (and thus, her chance to visit him) I'm...
  6. I was just listening to the radio on my way to work, and they brought the big DJ Mojo a b-day cake and you ould tell he wasn't that excited. But then his co-host says "don't worry, I had Sugar Kisses bakery open special for you - it's totally gluten free!!" Mojo was so excited and I was too! I think it's great they talk about it so freely! And I put...
  7. I eat the chicken and wild rice one, it comes in a microwave bowl so its great for traveling or as an emergency food too!
  8. They now make little containers of Jiff peanut butter that would travel well. You could even take them on the plane to have w/ an apple or rice cakes. Be sure to check the fluid ounces allowed to take on a plane - they confiscated my small bottle of Pepto because it was too big.
  9. Don't forget peanut butter - good for baby and mommy!! I like to dip apple slices in it, or spread on gluten-free rice cakes.
  10. Fatty foods, even a small bag of chips, can do me in!
  11. I've also heard to never get gas when the tanker is there filling the pumps for the same reason. All the sediment in the under-ground tank is getting stirred up and you just pump it into your tank. Supposedly anyway. I'm in Michigan, which until yesterday had the highest gas prices in the country. Can someone explain to me how on earth our gas is...
  12. We call it Martian Salad!
  13. I bought a rice cooker and I LOVE it!!
  14. Some things say "non-dairy" but actually have casein in them - non-dairy creamers and Cool Whip too! Just another reason to keep reading those labels. Also, check your medications - a lot of them have lactose too. Glad you're feeling better!
  15. I have to say that I think Whole Foods is universally over-expensive no matter what you buy. We haven't nicknamed it "Whole Paycheck" for nothing!! I also feel that a lot of gluten-free things are way overpriced. I love Namaste brownies, and yes it makes a big pan, but it $7.99 for the mix! I get Celiac Specialties at a grocery store here and the little...
  16. Hello and welcome! Yes, it is very overwhelming - that's a perfectly normal reaction. My first recommendation would be to just relax, breathe and start reading up. You'll find lots of great advice here. For me it was easier to take the "one day at a time" approach. Allow extra time at the grocery store to read labels and meal plan. Take your diet to...
  17. I ended up getting her a wine stopper with "I'm 40, stop WHINING start Wine'In" and a corkscrew with "SCREW 40" on it. The crowning touch was the enormous shiny milar balloon shapped in a 40 that I had the hostess bring to the table. Thanks for the ideas!
  18. I just used an excel spreadsheet
  19. Yeah, but then I'd have to buy a whole thing of them and *I* certainly don't need them (yet)
  20. My friend is turning 40 this Friday and a few of us are getting together for lunch. We usually have a "no gifts" policy, but I'd like to get her a little something funny. Any suggestions for a gift or a poem? What if I put together a little "40 survival kit" with pantyliners, vitamins, asprin, bifocals? Give me some ideas!! Thanks.
  21. He sent out a group email to our Ann Arbor Yahoo group saying that he wouldn't go into reasons why he left, he did not know if the new management would keep the place gluten-free and that he hopes to see us again soon. Bummer!!
  22. Eating items that do or do not say gluten-free, or made in a facility that process wheat, is a personal choice. Personally, I eat anything as long as it does not contain wheat, oat, barley, rye (incl. malt flavoring). Some people are very sensitive and truly need a product that is verified gluten-free. If she eats a certain food and you notice a reaction...
  23. I just found a new Hormel lunchmeat in a brown package that lists gluten-free right on it!
  24. My dr. put me on an anti-fungal and warned me that it "would get worse before it got better" (meaning my D) and whooboy was he right!

    ARCHIVED Michigan Doctors Help

I don't know what area you're in, but there are several Michigan groups that might be able to help you. I know there's an Ann Arbor group, as well as Lansing and a more metro Detroit area. You should google it and I bet you'll find lots of info. Good luck and let me know if I can help you find any information.
