ARCHIVED Dippin Dots
Guhlia replied to AkBravo34's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Most flavors are gluten free, but if they do have gluteny flavors, there may be a high risk of CC. At the dippin dots stand at our mall they use the same scoop for every flavor. I stay away generally. -
ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I really liked the second song also. I hadn't heard it before either, but I thought it was really good, very modern. I was shocked that the judges didn't praise him. I am so glad that I'm not the only one that feels that strongly about Taylor Hicks. He is the embodiment of nails down a chalk board, grinding teeth, metal on metal... -
ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Is Taylor Hicks even around anymore? I couldn't stand him last season. I haven't heard any of his stuff on the radio or TV or anything. Granted, he probably doesn't do any of the kinds of music that I like... -

ARCHIVED Hamburger
Guhlia replied to ginap73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If the ingredient statement on lists beef, then I believe they have to be all beef. It could be the processing technique though. There could be CC risks in one brand and not another. I could be totally off though on food labeling laws... -
ARCHIVED American Idol Fans?
Guhlia replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hubby thinks LaKisha will be going home tonight. I'd be happy if he were right, she bores me to tears. I just tune out when she's singing. She chooses the most boring songs. Ugh... I hope that Blake stays. I really enjoy his music. It's really exciting for me to hear what he's going to do. He's so talented. I really wish he would change his hair back though... -
You could write things that could apply to singles or couples such as: "Your true love and you will last forever." or "A happy person is love embodied." I know, I know, corny, right? I'm definitely no greeting card writer. Hope that helps though.

ARCHIVED Mac & Cheese
Guhlia replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The chance of CC would come from pasta powder (gluten) being all over the outside of the cheese packet. Unless you wash it off before opening it, there's a good chance of CC. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. I just buy the shaker of the same cheese powder. It costs a few cents more, but I feel much safer using it. -
ARCHIVED Mac & Cheese
Guhlia replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Kraft sells the orange cheese powder in a canister. I think it's called popcorn cheese or something. They carry it at Walmart, at least around here. For real mac & cheese I use the following: 1 16 oz. bar of velveeta 1 bag of Tinkyada elbows or shells 1 cup shredded cheddar (Kraft or GV brand) 3-6 tablespoons dried minced onion (McCormick... -

If you need a great lasagna recipe, here's the one we use. Open Original Shared Link It's fabulous. You will likely want to cut down on the salt called for in the recipe though, it's overkill. Use Tinkyada noodles and be sure to stir the water you boil them in often (even though the directions don't say to) or they will stick together like glue. If you stir...

I tried contacting them via e-mail a few times about a year ago and never heard back from them. Good luck! Let us know what happens.

ARCHIVED Vaginal Discharge And Celiac Disease
Guhlia replied to Maya T.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celiac disease can cause your body to do all sorts of crazy things. Try going gluten free for a few weeks and see if it clears your problem up. It won't hurt you to try the diet AND it may be the answer to your gyn issues. -
If you didn't save copies of those gluten laden pasta recipes, go fetch them from your neighbor!!! Tinkyada tastes exactly like the "real" thing and it works in all of your old recipes.
-
We have urban rebounders and love them. I haven't been able to use mine in a while, but it's well worth the money.
-
I DO have Celiac, but even if I didn't, I would probably still say I did. The "disease" word is very powerful in getting people to take things seriously. I just say that I have Celiac disease which is kind of like a serious allergy to wheat, flour, and a few other things. That seems to give people the general idea without scaring them too much or making it...

Banana Bread - This recipe is also from the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids by Shari L. Sanderson

Cocoa Pebbles are still gluten free. Cocoa Puffs are not. Thai Kitchen bowls are oriental style noodle bowls, similar to Ramen noodles, that are usually found with the ethnic foods in mainstream grocery stores. Be sure to look for "gluten free" on the label as some are not gluten free. Here's my hot dog bun recipe. It's actually a bread recipe, so modify...

I agree... Especially with teenagers around, Jerry. Ugh... That's enough anxiety right there!

I have an excellent recipe for banana bread from the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids cookbook by Shari L. Sanderson. I'll post it when I get a chance if someone else doesn't beat me to it. My white bread recipe is also from the same cookbook. You don't need to get a hotel room with a kitchen, but a refrigerator in the room would certainly help...

Making your own breads could potentially save you a lot of money. I buy my flours through www.kinnikinnick.com and then freeze what I don't need right away. Many recipes can use soy or lactose free milk, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. There are tons of good recipes floating around this site. You definitely don't need a bread machine to make good...

ARCHIVED Why Am I The Unlucky One To Gain Weight?
Guhlia replied to tbradley93's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Constipation and weight gain are common symptoms in Celiacs. Whenever I am glutened I get either diarrhea or constipation, often just constipation though. Sometimes I even get both, one after the other. Weight gain is also very common because your body is starving itself due to malabsorption so it's telling you to not only eat more, but it's also storing... -
ARCHIVED Made My First gluten-free Cookie
Guhlia replied to jmd3's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the same flour mix as Jenny: 3 parts white rice flour, 2 parts potato starch, 1 part tapioca starch... I add xantham gum always, with the amount depending on the type of recipe I'm making. Don't worry, gluten free baking becomes easy with a little practice. For chocolate chip cookies try using a recipe that uses pudding mix. For some reason, vanilla...
