  1. Shez, Welcome! Is the blood test for celiac? If so, I would ask him everything about celiac to see where he stands on the disease. Make sure you are eating gluten 8-12 weeks prior to blood tests because they will otherwise most likely come back as negative. If you are not sure exactly what the blood test is for, ask him for specifics.
  2. This article almost made me cry.
  3. Welcome, Mlec! I think anytime a person even suspects they might have a gluten sensitivity, or might be celiac, that testing should be done. I'm glad you decided to get testing. Please let us know how it goes.
  4. HI Tracy, Welcome! Here is a list of Open Original Shared Link Have you had a chance to browse the forums yet? Several people here do not have celiac but have a gluten intolerance, so you will find a lot of support here.
  5. @Pronghorngirl, how are you doing now? I hope you are feeling better.
  6. Some people with celiac can't tolerate even gluten free oats. Is this the first time you've had such a reaction? What other ingredients were in the cookies? Could you have had an a reaction to something else in the cookies?? Is it possible there was an unintentional gluten cross-contamination?
  7. Bryers says on their packaging they are gluten free. Perhaps you are reacting to something else in their ice cream. Could it by you are dairy intolerant instead of lactose intolerant?
  8. I have not yet been diagnosed (doing a gluten challenge now for celiac blood testing, and will also be tested for food allergies), but when I did the McDoughall Diet, which then was all whole food, no dairy, not meat and no gluten, I had no digestive issues. It was after I went back to my regular diet several months later that I found I was lactose intolerant...
  9. E-Ran89, you indeed sounds like a wonderful friend. Will your friend with celiac be helping you in this process? If she has not already asked to help prepare, or to buy the new dishes, I would offer this to her. With dietary restrictions, and especially with an autoimmune disease triggered by gluten, it's important to have control when it comes to food...
  10. Ironictruth, have you asked your doctor about the burping? You said your doctor asked you to stop eating gluten to see if your symptoms went away: was this after the blood tests, which came back as negative? Or, what it the endoscope biopsies that showed negative results? I know the frustration of not finding answers. Have you talked to your doctor...
  11. Also, this from the University of Chicago Medicine: Open Original Shared Link
  12. Update: I am in week two of the gluten challenge, and I'm eating lots of it: many of my digestive problems have returned full force, but the acid reflux has calmed down. Also, I'm fatigued, foggy head and grumpy. A part of me wants to quit, but I know better. On Monday, I have a phone appointment with a specialist in food allergies. His nurse...
  13. Welcome, Bunty! This conversation is pretty old, and the person you quoted has not been here since 2014 so she/might not see this to answer. I have not experienced this particular issue.
  14. It's important to be the gluten police when it comes to your health.
  15. KjDx, What were your results to the celiac tests? I would demand further testing.
  16. Newt, So glad you have the support of your mom in this, and that she is encouraging you to talk with the doctor! Believe me, a gluten challenge is no fun and a lot of people who have lived gluten free won't do it. I am just about ready to throw in the towel but will carry on. This is after being gluten free for only four weeks! I am also considering...
  17. Today is day 9 of the gluten challenge: I have enough gas to fly me from Cali to Ireland nonstop, but I'm way to tired to go. I itch (no rash), and I feel bloated as anything,

  18. Welcome, Love-Newt! First of all, since you are underage is/are your parent/parents involved in your health concerns? If you have not done so yet, please share your concerns with the adult(2) in your family. Since you had been gluten free and then ate gluten for two weeks only prior to your blood test, you might have gotten a false negative. In...
  19. Paq, Welcome! I agree with the previous posters. She needs to see a doctor. It sounds more like stomach flu to me, and it has been going around.
  20. Hi Matt, welcome. Were you eating gluten on a daily basis at the time of your blood test? Do you have copies of your celiac screening that you can post here? I think it sounds like you have celiac, but there are hundreds of varied symptoms associated with this disease. The thing is, you have to be very proactive to make sure your doctor knows...
  21. Hi Charity, Have you shown your parents to rash? Explained to them what is going on with you. Since your underage, an adult needs to be involved with this process. Please go to the doctor and tell him/her your concerns about celiac and ask to have the skin adjacent to your rash biopsied. I would also ask them for the celiac panel. However, keep...
  22. Rachel, I agree that you need a new doctor. Try and find someone in your area who is celiac savvy. They're out there.
  23. Rachel, I can't open the photos. I would certainly take him to the doctor to have his rash biopsied (biopsy is on non-rashy skin near the rash). When you had the celiac test, were you consuming gluten at the time? If not, the result will likely not be accurate. In order for an accurate celiac blood panel, you need to consume plenty of gluten 6-8 weeks...
  24. Well, if you are not eating gluten, the biopsy is useless to test for celiac. I believe you would have to do about a 3 month gluten challenge if you wanted accurate results.
