  1. georgiagirl----that looks like you are closer to positive than you are to negative.(it was helpful to know the whole scale) you should be able to continue on the diet and then retest in a few months. if your levels have dropped, you most likely have celiac disease-----i assume the test you are talking about is the Ttg? i think that positive is positive...
  2. i've been taking antidepressants for the most part of 18 years. i have a lot of trouble with side effects, so i have been through alot of different ones. xanax is pretty good for anxiety. personally, i think that if your anxiety is bad enough, who cares whether or not the xanax is addictive-----that can be dealt with later-----get the anxiety under control...
  3. if 10 and above is considered celiac and you only tested at an 8, then that is NOT weakly positive, it is negative. the doc can't test for celiac when he does a colonoscopy. they do biopsies for celiac with an endoscopy. if you feel better when you are gluten free, just stay gluten free.
  4. larry mac suggested we start a new thread on this subject---and i thought it was a good idea. our plan is to test our girls at least every 6 months to see how well we have done on the diet. we have tested sooner when we felt it was needed. it seems like there are people that question foods that do not give them symptoms, but could possibly be cross...
  5. good idea, larry. i have often wondered why people do so much guessing without follow up testing.
  6. i have 9 children----3 of them are diagnosed with celiac and we know that at least one of the others carries the gene. i worry some about my youngest as she has enamel hypoplasia---so far she tests negative. we are waiting for gene test results on the rest of us. i also have 2 step-children.
  7. getting your Ttg levels checked on a regular basis would tell whether or not you were getting damage even if you didn't have symptoms.
  8. paula, if the little talk you all had doesn't keep working, i think that carla's idea of using money is really good! it is hard enough raising a step-child without any health problems!!
  9. 2 biopsies is not enough to catch patchy damage----if it were me i would ask to have the blood work done before i got too far into the gluten free diet.
  10. that statement from quaker oats sounds like a CYA statement, and it was made almost a year and a half ago. we (my kids) are always in danger of CC no matter what we do. i have avoided quaker rice cakes because i heard people say they weren't safe. but, now that i see the actual statement and see that deb has been eating them for that long without a problem...
  11. sandy----individual strategies are really what it comes down to. what do you mean when you say "movies in the head"? is this replaying the days events over and over? the more i have heard about asperger's i have begun to wonder if my son and i could be a little bit this way. i didn't fit the category when i took the test, but maybe we could fall under...
  12. some kids with ADD can hyperfocus on certain things.
  13. i think that dermatitis herpetiformis is extremely itchy. i think it can show up in a number of places, but the most common are elbows, knees and the bum. it is usually symetrical on both sides of your body, but i'm sure there are exceptions.
  14. The endomysial antibody tests only will be positive if there is total villious atrophy. most people have patchy atrophy. this statement is not true. my daughter had a positive enomysial test and she showed no damage with her biopsy, just an area of increased intraepithelial lymphocytes.
  15. excuse my ignorance---but what exactly is "new york style" pizza?
  16. the doc can't tell you anything positive from the scope---he can guess, but the damage is microscopic. i would ask for the actual lab report to hold in your fist and take home. i would ask for copies of your blood results, also.
  17. antigliadin tests are no longer routinely indicated because they are not as accurate. i agree with rez about getting a better diagnosis than that. i wish my kids did not have celiac disease and would take it away in a heartbeat if i could.
  18. your right, the total IgA serum should have been done, but chances are, if your son was IgA deficient, his Ttg score would have been really low, not normal. our ped gi runs a total IgA serum and a Ttg test. so, now that we have totally confused you, what IgA test was normal? i assume you must mean the AGA IgA? and i assume it was a Ttg IgA that was...
  19. my family is involved in a celiac study being done at the university of california, irvine. there is no question that this is a reputable institution. the gal in charge of the study says she is not aware of any gluten sensitivity gene, and she said that they do not accept anyone into the study that has been diagnosed by enterolab. dr. fine has been testing...
  20. what other tests did you want done? the Ttg is the most accurate test for celiac. the only way you are going to get a positive or negative diagnosis with those test results is with a biopsy-----and your son needs to be on gluten for that.

    ARCHIVED Orthorexia

when i read your post it made me think of an eating disorder---and then i looked up your link and saw that it IS and eating disorder. i'd suggest getting some help----eating disorders are ugly business.
  22. have you had surgery on your stomache or esophagus---or do you have one of the syndromes that make dumping syndrome more likely?
  23. you can't grind with water in a regular grain mill. rice takes a little longer to grind because it is a hard grain, but you don't want it wet.
  24. what is the connection with DH and idodine----i have seen this mentioned before.
  25. you will probably be able to smell if it goes rancid.
