  1. the IgG is not enough for a celiac diagnosis. IgG antibodies can be raised in other conditions, such as chrons disease. the gi may not be able to tell you much if you have already put your child on a gluten free diet prior to seeing him.
  2. make sure your doc does a total IgA serum and a Ttg IgA.

    ARCHIVED Testing Kids

our ped gi says to test the whole family periodically---yearly if we know they have the gene and even sooner if the ones with the gene show symptoms.
  4. it can be a vitamin deficiency and it can be a symptom of celiac---but it can also be an infection----and there is something else that can cause the cracks, also---but i can't remember what it is. i looked it up because one of my kids was having a problem with it. one of my twins still has cracks in the corner of her mouth when she is gluten free.
  5. anxiety and brain fog are mental symptoms---not neurological symptoms.
  6. gabriella---i think an awful lot of us have done the "crying in the grocery store" thing early on. i can remember standing in the isle of walmart fighting back the tears as i read labels.
  7. bob's red mill has a dedicated gluten-free area for their gluten free products---so i don't think that CC is a big problem. we use gluten free oats without a problem, and one of my girls seems to be fairly sensitive. we have also used McCain's instant packets without a problem.
  8. i doubt that metabolic testing includes celiac testing unless your doctor specifically orders it. it sounds like a good idea to have your girls tested for celiac.
  9. my daughter made a regular sugar cookie recipe and just substituted a gluten free flour mix. she didn't roll them too thin, and they were soft and good.
  10. no, my husband doesn't have celiac----we don't know yet which one of us carries the gene, either.
  11. snack pack pudding, fruit cups, rice cakes with nutella, homemade cocoa pebble rice crispies, dry cereal in a bag and buy a milk at school to pour on it, envirokid bars, chips and salsa or bean dip, string cheese, flavored milk boxes, squeaky cheese(cheese curds). last year, when my twins were in junior high, they occasionally brought things to put in the...
  12. nancy---we have 11 kids. i gave birth to 9 of them, 2 are my step-kids.(and i raised one of them from the age of 10) our kids ages are: 31, 29, 23, 21, 17, 15, 15, 12, 9, 7, 3-----and we have 2 grandsons. our 7 year old had a twin that reabsorbed---wouldn't 2 sets of twins have been exciting!? we have two 4 year jumps between kids plus the 6 year jump...
  13. our doc told us, in so many words, NOT to cheat because you're going to be getting glutened enough by accident.
  14. alot of burping sounds like it could be reflux.
  15. my husband has a ton of lipomas on his legs. he recently had several large ones removed. where is the info about lipomas being caused by a metabolic disease? or is that only internal ones?
  16. pamela's bread is pretty good. my sister has a liver disease, but she does not have celiac. i have tried to tell her to try gluten free, but she thinks it would be too difficult. i i know it won't cure her liver disease, but it might help with some of the symptoms---she also has ulcerative cholitis.
  17. i would not use her grain mill----i bought a new mill to grind rice flour for my kids.
  18. i'm assuming there must be more to the letter than what you printed? what you printed does not say that she has a problem with gluten----just that she is predisposed to it-------almost everyone has those genes.
  19. sounds like his growth has nothing to do with his celiac------maybe he is just going to be small? have they checked his growth hormone levels?
  20. i wouldn't trust kevin trudeau any further than i could throw him, but that's just me.
  21. jenny---do you know what they were measuring the IgA levels of? if it was antigliadin IgA levels that your doc based it on---then that is not necessarily indicative of celiac. the best tests for celiac are the Ttg IgA and the EMA IgA.
  22. one of our kids does not have celiac, but does have the DQ2 gene. our ped gi has told us to havae him tested yearly, or sooner if he develops symptoms, or if we just happen to be running blood work for some other reason.

    ARCHIVED Ibs

i think levsin is supposed to help with IBS.
  24. i haven't had it done, but just today i have been reading a book about fibromyalgia and myofacial pain and they talk alot about trigger points and trigger point injections.
  25. being gluten free can affect the tests and the biopsy. if it were me, i would do the biopsy because they look for other things besides celiac-----she could possibly have other issues going on------maybe an eosinophilic problem. blood tests at her age are not real accurate.
