  1. jodi---you need to have a total IgA serum test done---if you happen to be IgA deficient, those test results would mean nothing. if the gluten free diet is not helping your symptoms, i think maybe it would be a good idea to contiue to investigate other things that might be causing your symptoms. some people get celiac damage that does not heal, but they...
  2. i don't mean to be judgemental of your family, especially since it sounds like they are really trying----but i think that if you are anaphylactic to something i don't think that it is unreasonable to want your family to not even bring those substances in the house----especially someone who is visiting and doesn't live there on a regular basis. here is...
  3. "Maybe the exposure isn't enough to damage your villi to the point of showing antibodies in your blood." my girls had negative biopsies, but they had positive blood work, so we know that our girls show antibodies to gluten exposure----whether or not they show villi damage. it appears that maybe you didn't read my post thoroughly------i stated...
  4. your total IgA is not low. it is within the normal range for the lab that your doctor used. if a person is IgA deficient, it will be obvious. my son is IgA deficient. the normal range for the lab that our doc used was 44-441. my son's total IgA was less than 6.
  5. consider the source----isn't "women's world" just a higher class tabloid magazine???
  6. we do not worry about non-edible products. we have our girls antibody levels tested on a regular basis----and their levels have returned to normal or nearly normal. maybe we are not using any products that contain gluten----we really don't worry about this issue and it has worked for us---blood work proves it. this approach probably doesn't work for everyone...
  7. what two scores were high and what scores were low?
  8. yep---those blood tests look negative for celiac.
  9. kassie made some ice cream cones from roben ryberg's book "the gluten free kitchen". i was not home, but the kids said that they were good. i'll try to remember to tell her to post and tell you about them.
  10. i wish i could go----i would love to hear dr. fasano!!!
  11. just wondering why your doc wants you to leave her on gluten? does she want to do a biopsy to confirm celiac? alot of people with the gene don't have the disease--but with your daughters symptoms...........
  12. mucous in bowel movements can be caused by any number of things.
  13. it looks like nummular excema to me.
  14. threads like this are always so bizarre-------
  15. i don't think you need to worry about celiac just yet. there are so many things that can cause funky diapers in a baby that young----especially when they are teething and you are introducing new foods. if it were me, i would probably wait it out a bit and see what happens. could be a tummy bug, could be the teeth, could be a food allergy, could be the...
  16. is there anything in particular they suspect and are looking for? my sister has ulcerative cholitis and just recently i heard her mention something about her colon becoming swollen sometimes because of it. she has bleeding from it, too. just thought i would mention it------
  17. if she was diagnosed a long time ago and hasn't stayed up with the new info that is being discovered about celiac, she may not know that a "little bit of cheating" really is not ok. there have been people on this board that have had their doctor tell them a little cheating was ok. she also may have been a little embarrassed about the whole thing because...
  18. i had shingles when i was about 4 yrs. old.
  19. bob's red mill makes their gluten free products in a dedicated facility----so there really should not be a problem with cross contamination.
  20. my children are on the small side.
  21. which IgA test did they run? if it were me, i would investigate things further before putting my child gluten free. if nothing shows up, then i'd try gluten free. i'd dfinitely see a ped gi, too.
  22. ryan, my daughter spent 2 1/2 months in the hospital last summer with an eating disorder. the dietician assured me that the hospital had celiac children in there on a regular basis and that they knew what they were doing. she told me that the kitchen staff knew all about how to prevent cross contamination. my daughter went into the hospital with her...
  23. it is used to increase the protein in baked goods so that they will rise better.
  24. pregnancy can do all kinds of interesting things. i've had my atopic dermatitis clear significantly and my vision improve.
  25. my girls eat all kinds of brands of jelly beans----we haven't run into any that are NOT gluten free----and we even eat brachs candy without problems----people are goint to tell you that brachs are cross contaminated---but i think that is just a CYA statement. jelly belly buttered toast jelly beans have gluten. this diet takes a little getting used to--...
