ARCHIVED Wheatgrass? Is It Wheat?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Robix's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It might be a total coincidence, but I drank wheatgrass drinks (which were delicious, by the way )every day for a week and then, BOOM! my first celiac symptom--an itchy, painful, truly hideous DH-type rash--appeared. -

I am guessing that the connection to autism is at least partially linked to vaccines. I don't know if gut permeability is caused by the vaccine, or if the vaccine acts as a catalyst, or if the vaccine might even cause gut permeability. But any way you look at it, if you have gut permeability, and 26 vaccines by the age of 2, many of which (until very recently... -

As KayJay probably knows, when the baby has reflux, feeding half as much twice as often is MUCH easier on baby's tummy and esophagus, not to mention Mommy's shoulder. When you do this, you are pretty much feeding constantly, but most of us moms-with-sick-children will do whatever it takes to keep our child as healthy as possible. I actually had a young... -
ARCHIVED Bob's Red Mill?

So many people are experiencing the same thing here--have you all called the company to let them know? Besides for the fact that these products are so darn expensive (you could ask for your money back!), maybe they might want to know that their products aren't going to sell well with word getting around@ Someone should show them this thread.... -

Adzuki beans are a red bean used often in Japanese cooking. I thnk they are sold dried, but I'm not sure--I'll ask DH when he gets home, but he's 3rd generation, doesn't cook, and is a true American glutenaholic, so he probably won't know. All those recipes sound fantastic. I'm getting hungry just imagining them.... -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
One of my kids had grayish-brown stains right where the front top teeth meet the gumline when he was 20 months. The first dentist we took him to wanted to knock him out and do restorative work. The next dentist we tried said that it was likely from the ironsupplements and/or the antibiotics I was given when I was pregnant with him, and that it wasn't necessary... -
I started on synthroid years ago, and then my PCP switched me to levothroid becasue she said the hormone levels in synthroid were inconsistent. Since she retired, I am now with an endocrinologist, who recently switched me back to synthroid after it seemed that every time I refilled my prescription, my levels would fluctuate. I've been pretty stable on synthroid...

Since I cut out the gluten, I've been scarfing down Fritos Corn Chips. I never used to salt anything, and I never ate chips of any kind (chocolate chip cookies was my downfall). I just assume that I'm holding a lot of water weight from all the excess salt that I'm not used to (and will hopefully learn to leave alone)! -

ARCHIVED Grocery Store Rotisserie Chicken
Fiddle-Faddle replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We used to get rotisserie chickens all the time, but I'm just making roast chicken at home now. It's much easier than I had expected. Rinse it, plop in a pan on top of some sliced onions and chuck it in the oven for an hour. If you have energy, stuff it with garlic, onion slices, lemon slices, fistfuls of parsley, etc. just don't eat the stuffing (it takes... -
ARCHIVED What Does A Typical Day Of Eating Look Like For You All?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to BeccaM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wait a minute--doesn't EVERYBODY get dizzy and nauseated if they don't eat every 3-4 hours? My gosh, I thought that was NORMAL. I eat eggs for breakfast, green tea, and a large cup of watered-down cranberry juice snack: banana, or corn chips, or protein bar, or yogurt lunch: corn tortilla/ safe deli meat wrap, or sushi, or last night... -
For what it's worth, I've been told by several vets NOT to give my cat milk as it gives them diarrhea--they really ARE lactose intolerant!

ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi, Radman, I'm pretty much where you are, as I don't have an official diagnosis, and my symptoms are probably even milder than yours. What makes me wonder if everybody here might actually be right about being so strict is how many other problems of mine disappeared with the gluten. On the other hand,I think it's a pretty good question. We don't really... -
Vincent, my son had open-heart surgery when he was 2 because of an anomolous muscle bundle. It was apparently caused when his ventricular septal defect closed on its own--the jet of blood going through it as it narrowed irritated tissue on the opposite side, and the muscle bundle formed as a sort of scar tissue response (but made of muscle fibers, not scar...

Great website, KayJay--thanks for providing it! The crying thing in particular just amazes me. You would never lock a crying baby in the car, stand outside, and say, "No, I'm not going to pick you up, you're just fine." Why do parents do the same thing to a baby, substituting a crib? I've noticed that consistently picking up a crying child has taught... -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Ursula. Yes, children are born with their own personalities, but it is the parents' responsibility to love, nurture, and teach their children. You might look up Nurtured BY Love by Shinichi Suzuki, who pioneered a violin teaching method in the 1950's that is still widely taught today around the world. His idea was that all hearing children... -
ARCHIVED Crab Cakes
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would just substitute instant mashed potato flakes for the bread crumbs. I think the fake crab (surimi) has wheat starch . Check the ingredients--you might have to use real crab. I make salmon cakes (however much leftover grilled salmon I have plus a beaten egg, Old Bay seasoning, and some potato flakes--mix it all together, make patties, roll in... -

Hi, Jeanne, I'm wondering the same thing about myself, so it looks like we're in the same boat. I've always had rosy cheeks, but lately it looks less rosy andmore rash-like, though it's smoother than the pictures you showed on the links in your post. I never had the GERD surgery--but I've had major GERD since the age of 15. I had major hyperemesis with all 3 of my pregnancies, probably because of the GERD. I don't know how much of arole celiac played in that (I had never heard of it then), but I think it's interesting that I did not eat much bread or pasta while I was pregnat (most of the time, I ate...
