ARCHIVED Living Without--newest Issue
mommida replied to celiac3270's topic in Publications & Publicity
celiac3270, Maybe it's time for you to write a book. From your perspective for other teenagers. As a parent of toddlers, I am not quite sure how to handle the teenage years on a gluten free diet. I am happy with the books I have bought, i.e. Danna Korn, but I have found your interaction on the board more helpful than the short stack of books I have on... -

We found out the Energe bread is good as long as it is grilled. Make those panini sandwiches they turn out great. Check out www.unitedbuyinclubs.com They recently started selling Foods by George and Kinniknik. They have been selling the Debole's and Tinkyada pastas, Amy's, Gillian's, Bob's flour products, Pamela's, Gluten Free Pantry, Mrs. Leeper's, Ian... -
Get another doctor. You aren't comfortable with this one, or you wouldn't be questioning the colonoscopy suggestion. You've been gluten free for 4 months right? The damage should be healing and there would be nothing to find Celiac related, assuming nothing else was going on since your last test, you will just be diagnosed with IBS. Unless you go back...

ARCHIVED Here's A Possible Connection Between Celiac And
mommida replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Jnkmnky, I am glad you posted this link and added to the collection of information here. I think the screening should be done prior to pregnancy though. There is too much development in the the first 6 weeks of pregnancy, when the mother may not even know she is pregnant. Laura -
ARCHIVED Daughter Just Diagnosed - What Next?
mommida replied to CeliacMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep gluten free snacks on hand to trade for every forbidden food she gets offered. If possible, let her decide which gluten free snack she would like instead. My daughter was diagnosed at 17 months, she is 2 1/2 now. Read food labels out loud to her, since this will be a life long habit for her. Laura -
I have been making gluten free cakes with a passover sponge cake recipe (on the Maneschevitz box) and chocolate mousse layers. It would be perfect for a wedding cake, or you could go with a cheese cake. You should not be overcharged for a gluten free cake. Laura

To get Hashimoto's thyroiditis diagnosed an ultrasound of the thyroid ( the right side swells more for Hashi's), a thyroid function/uptake test ( a geiger counter is used to detect how nuclear matter has spread through the body), and a FULL panel on your blood (T3, T4, and ultrasensitive TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone)) My thyroid problem was not diagnosed...

ARCHIVED Instant Manufacturer/ingredient/menu Lookup!
mommida replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Richard, It was for pediatric pre-anesthia (usually the child will fall asleep before going into the operating room and it also has an amnesia effect), and it was to be administered in liquid form by mouth along with liquid tylenol. It could not be verified on time for my daughter's surgery and she went without it. I have 3 gluten free medications list... -

It would have been nice to ask Lisa, the professor with testing equipment, to test the questionable oat products. Laura -
ARCHIVED Could My Daughter Have Celiac? Constant Hunger
mommida replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 10 month old daughter was eating more food than I was and not gaining any weight. She has numerous symptoms. GET THE TESTING DONE FIRST! Then try a gluten free, casien free diet. You may try and introduce dairy after some stomach healing has occured. I would try the diet changes before letting my child take any drugs. You need to look into pyschotropic... -

ARCHIVED Instant Manufacturer/ingredient/menu Lookup!
mommida replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes I do have that link. The drug was not on there. When the pharmacist said it should be avoided by anyone sensitive to cherries, there were shocked looks on the faces at the hospital. It must have occured to them that they have never asked anyone about being sensitive to cherries before using this drug, ever. Laura -
ARCHIVED Instant Manufacturer/ingredient/menu Lookup!
mommida replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great source. It still needs a lot more information. I searched safe crackers, and only Energie Foods brand came up. Only 2 salad dressings came up. Let's help complete this list! (Brain thank you so much for taking the time to create this site!) We have to get more gluten-free medication lists out there for emergency situations. We have to get some... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism ?
mommida replied to Nanjee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed with Hashi's in 93, long before I had ever heard of Celiac. I tried Levoxl, and I ended having an allergic reaction rash. The formula might have changed since 94. It definately had something in it that that synthroid didn't. It is important to also watch the T3 and T4 levels with Hashi. It is also very important to watch the timing when... -

The question was asked, Is there a connection between Celiac and Autism? Answer is, although there are theories, at this time there is no science to prove a connection. It is a good question. More research needs to be done. If she read the Danna Korn book, she wouldn't have asked the question. You asked where that type of theory was in print and to...

The supposed connection to Down's (and Type 1 diabetes, any other autoimmune disorder, down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, chronic active hepatitis, scleroderma, sjogren syndrome, raynaud syndrome, addison'disease, myasthenia gravis, rheumatoid arthritis epilepsy or cerebal calcifications) these conditions show a higher rate for having Celiac. i.e. Down's syndrome...

A question, is a question. I think the answer has been given, no link that we know of. I provided a link to where this question could have sprouted from. Some person who has no knowledge of Celiac disease was probably butting into this girl's business, telling her bits and pieces they could remember out of last weeks news articles. Trying "to be helpfull...

Don't get upset. Just another theory. I posted earlier this is highly controversial, but these things were mentioned in this article (Wakefield study). if this is what has sparked this person's interest for research, then that is the article I know of. I personally am not saying there is any link Celiac to autism. The Rolling Stone article is starting...

I have heard that a Celiac parent is supposed to have a higher chance of having a down's syndrome child. The Autism spectrum is so wide. There are so many different ranges of functioning. Different theories of origin, diagnoses, and treatment. That is why I thought of the Wakefield study and the malabsorbtion issues described in the report. They do...

This is a little bit of a stretch, but I believe in looking to all sources of information and considering the source of where it came from. I think Dr. Andrew Wakefield's study on the MMR vaccine and autism is very interesting and it is also very contoversial. The described infammatory bowel disease connection to Autism is markedly similar to Celiac. His...

It would be a good idea to keep a food diary. If you are reacting over and over agin to a distilled product that is supposed to be safe ( some people do ) then you can eliminate it from your diet, or you can realise that is was some fluke from cross contamination. Laura
