ARCHIVED Caution With Pillsbury Gluten Free Dough ( Pizza )
mommida replied to chiplady's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
There are eggs in the dough. (So it won't be eaten at our house) It is sold from the refridgerated section. The egg product may not have been handled properly and lead to your tummy problems. I don't know how many times I have spotted people deciding not to buy an item and just put it down randomly in the store. I don't think employees are supposed... -
ARCHIVED Ive Developed A Lovely "light Golden Tan" To My Skin. Whats Happening?
mommida replied to jhol's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"hyperpigmenation or bronzing of skin (melasma suprenale)" ((This is taken from an article on Schmidt's Syndrome: Autoimmune Polyglandular Syndrome 2)) used this reference for spelling and closet article that had a link to Addison's (second Addison's I would think) By the way Schmidt's syndrome is an autoimmune polyendocrine disorder that causes adrenal... -
My niece had swelling and severe pain in her joints. She was losing the ability to move her joints from the swelling and pain. She was using a wheelchair. She was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome. (My sister-in-law refuses to discuss any of the medical testing, saying it is just personal information. They went to 3 specialist and...

ARCHIVED Free Vegan, Gluten-Free Menus And Dizziness
mommida replied to blondiedar052's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I suggest just buying a gluten free flour blend to modify the recipes you already have. My favorite cookbook for baking is The Allergen-Free Baker's Handbook How to Bake without Gluten, Wheat, Dairy, Eggs, Soy, Peanuts, Tree nuts, and Sesame by Cybele Pascal. She has a flour blend recipe. The flour blend works great, but sometimes I can't find all...- 6 replies

mommida replied to Simona19's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well I just bought Schar's deli style bread ~ 5 slices of bread for $4.99 at Meijer. (The cheaper sandwich bread was sold out. Back to school week here in Mi.) -
ARCHIVED Slippery Gluten-Free Ingredient?
mommida replied to mamacat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
xanthum gum or guar gum is very slippery. A friend of mine has a sensitivity to xanthum gum and can't tolerate any of my gluten free foods. Good thing she can eat wheat. -
ARCHIVED Fellow Homeschoolers Sign In!
mommida replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We are doing public school on-line. We switched from connections academy to lincoln interactive programs. Connections academy set up was awesome! lincoln interactive has had a lot of snags in the system for our first day. YUCK I am in such a foul mood I feel like punching like a computer right now. We made this decision because of health issues beyond... -

mommida replied to Niks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thoughts and prayers for the testing this Tuesday. I really pray you get some answers and healing! Take care! (You might want to bring some pain reliever for yourself. I always end up getting a stress migraine during most of my childrens medical stuff.) -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Chicken Strips
mommida replied to vallene45's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use potato chips. All different flavors work well. It can be really quick because you don't need to add other spices. (but I add parmesan cheese and we can't use eggs to make it stick to the chicken. the oils from the chips crisps the coating nicely.) -
ARCHIVED School Lunch Planning
mommida replied to ryo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What Mamaw said! (saved me a LOT of typing!) I went into the school to observe what was working (and what was not) during lunch (1st grade) Well those little friends of hers were all over her eating space with gluten sandwiches, cookies, and crackers. Whispering secrets and playing games, or just talking with thier hands while eating lunch. We used... -
ARCHIVED Concerned About Anxiety Disorder
mommida replied to mrobinson's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Vitamin defiency can cause anxiety. (B12) If accidental gluten causes her to have uncontrollable "D" or vomitting, can you blame her for being anxious? You are the mom. If you feel this needs to be addressed, get counseling. I have heard there can be a higher risk of developing an eating disorder with celiac disease/gluten intolerance. I also... -
ARCHIVED I Am Puzzled, My Girl Is In Troubles And I Don't Know What To Do!
mommida replied to jepacar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
she was scoped for the Celiac diagnoses? This can still be a congenital defect of the GI track. A little more about Eosinophilic Esophagitus. Food or airborn "trigger" activate eosinophil production, this can cause damage for 12 days. (That is why a 4 day rotation won't help you out much is this is the situation.) You need the reaction happening to... -

I suggest you start trying to figure another intolerance. Keep a food journal (yourself included for the breastmilk) and get her back in to a pediatric gastroenterologist. These are basic symptoms for a number of health issues and she will probably be scheduled for an endoscopy with biopsy. I would go everything that is being "ruled out" or diagnosed in... -
To be on the safe side go to the new location that is offering gluten free and vegan in St. Ignace and see if they will pack you a picnic lunch. (I hate being in a panic over something to eat.) I will try and check a few more resources to see if I can find out more.

Unfortunately there has been a huge increase in diagnoses. There is also *some connection to seasonal airborne allergens. Start keeping a daily journal. Note food, activities with locations (ie horseback riding at barn ~ so is the reaction to the horses, wheat based food for horses, barn cat dander, field of weeds that horse rode through, or mold/ fungus... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Son's Diagnosis (Or Lack Of!)
mommida replied to yogatwinmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Genetic testing can only tell if the patient has the known genes associated with Celiac. It is NOT a diagnoses. Some reports have gone around the internet that Celiacs have a higher occurance of H. Ployri. and connections to other disorders. At this point, I think it would be the best to work with a doctor and make sure other issues are ruled out. ... -
ARCHIVED Confused About Son's Diagnosis (Or Lack Of!)
mommida replied to yogatwinmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Go to the appointment. Explain how the testing was screwed up from the first doctor, fixed by the allergist, and how his health is now on a gluten free diet. This doctor may have the sense to give you a "probable" Celiac diagnoses, can do further testing to confirm or rule out other disorders, and can be a contact if you need emergency care. I would... -

EGID Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorder (all eosinophilic involvment of damage anywhere in the GI tract) Eosinophils are "triggered" by an "allergen" (food or airborne). Eosinophils are the nastiest line of defense of our immune systems. They are usually reserved for parasites because the have a spearlike attack. Eosinophils can not distinguish... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice, Please!
mommida replied to Niks's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has Celaic and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. There is now a proven connection between the 2 disorders. My daughter was 1st diagnosed with Celiac at the age of 16 months. (usual Celiac symptoms with vomitting ~ normal for toddlerswith Celiac) EoE diagnoses when she was 6 years old. It really seemed like she was getting glutened. Vomitting up... -
ARCHIVED Got Results Back Its Not Lupus
mommida replied to jhol's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm glad to hear that it is not Lupus. There is enough evidence to show that gluten is "more complex" for the human digestive track and that auto-immune disorders do better on a gluten free diet. When your testing is complete, try a gluten free diet. If you feel better not eating gluten, then don't eat it. Your body's reaction is a "scientific" proof... -
Well I would set up a guest basket for her. A few novels, outsfits for her teddies, jackets and hats she can wear, and make sure they are closed up in boxes. She has everything she usually takes from you and her snooping should be appeased by opening the boxes and having the surprise little gift. (Other than that, let her find something that will make...

ARCHIVED Need Advice! Duodenal Iels, Blepharospasm, Folliculitis....
mommida replied to livelaughlove3885's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Interesting. Dont know if this will help in any way. My daughter has been diagnosed with "probable" Celiac at 16 months old, Eosinophilic Esophagitus at the age of 6, and now early onset of puberty at the age of 10. Her current testing is for skeletal bone age to determine her growth potential. So I was doing some poking around on-line for possible...- 6 replies
