  1. Glad to hear some great news today!!
  2. Congratulations!!!! I think the gluten free diet had something to do with it too! To all the others, Good Luck! Laura
  3. I just want to add to the other posts. As a Celiac with Celiac children, your mom has serious issues. I would do anything to keep my children from suffering. I hold them when they are sick. Try and encourage them when their spirits are let down. (I won't let them drown in self pity either) Others have mentioned possible disorders your mother might...
  4. Checking the laundry soap is a good line of thinking. Check the fabric labels too! I happen to be allergic to alpaca. Anything that had been washed with it was causing a reaction. (sneezing, watery eyes, itching, etc.) I even had a reaction to an alpaca sweater that had just been shipped to my house, still double wrapped in sealed plastic bags. Keeping...
  5. I was dx with hashimoto's at least ten years befroe going on the gluten free diet. The endo has decreased my dose of synthroid since I started on the gluten free diet.
  6. I haven't had time to research an article that states a link directly to NASH, but there is a direct link to diabetes. Many Celiacs have test results with elevated liver enzymes. There is a link to auto-immune liver disease. (I don't know the name, but my daughter's ped. gastro. warned me about it. It could be NASH for all I know.) You have enough reseasons...
  7. I'm not a teen, but I'm from Oxford, MI. Kroger and Meijer's have some gluten free products in their specialty/health food sections. There will probably be a gluten free food fair this spring in Farmington. Laura
  8. Congratulations!!! Now wonder you didn't have time to post. LOL
  9. THIS RECIPE CONTAINS DAIRY Cream cheese cutouts 1 cup butter or margarine, softened 8-ounce package cream cheese 3 1/2 cups gluten free flour (I use gluten free pantry) 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 12 cups sugar 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Cream cheese frosting 4 ounces (1/2 package) cream cheese 1/2 stick (1/4 cup) butter...
  10. The start of testing should be a Complete Blood Count. Other blood tests would be done looking for... intrinsic factor and parietal cell antibodies bilirubin, potassium or cholesterol levels in the blood serum iron and iron binding capacity. There is a strong link to Celiac or any type of intestinal lack of absorbing B12. If there were any test...
  11. This may be off the wall, but have you been tested for pernicous anemia?
  12. (((HUGS))) to you and your family!! Studies show that children learn in an environment that is loving and safe. ( It was all in the student's perspective not the actual situation i.e. homeschool /public /private.) We left an unacceptable situation in public school and found an excellent Christian school. Research other oppurtunities for school. There...
  13. Our Dr. sent the tests out to Prometheus Labs. Some of the results were questionable. Prometheus Labs comments to the questioning, "every lab test has at least a 30 % error rate (we were told the test was supposed to be 98% accurate), "genes mutate", and "must have fallen into the 2% range not detected". The question? How can I not genetically match my...
  14. More insight would be helpful for me too. Considering I have just finished another round of antibiotics and still have strep.
  15. There is at least a 10% correlation between Celiac Disease and auto-immune thyroid disease. Grave's Disease / hyperthyroid Hashimoto's (after a time of flip flopping between hyper/hypo from the immune systems attack on the thyroid) hypothyroid IMOAre the most common on this forum. IMO
  16. Congratulations!!! If you join any online sites, try the www. club mom .com (spaces added just so it doesn't flag the system to change it to lame advertsment) If you do any online shopping, click through their site first and you can save points for gift certificates. Mother's of Pre-schoolers (MOPS) is an international Christian organization that might...
  17. My thoughts and prayers are with you. (((HUGS)))
  18. Any school function that involves food, I am there. I do not like putting my children's health in the hands of anyone else. It is a private school and every person has been great about the gluten free diet. The teacher's have gluten free treats/ snacks on hand, are respectful of my children's replacement snack supplies and space, the janitor spoke with...
  19. That means I don't have anything intelligent to add, but I want draw attention by putting it on the top of the new posts (BUMP). I hope some one has a response for you soon.
  20. bump
  21. Your immune system partly shuts down during pregnancy. If the immune system was in a normal state it would attack the fetus for being a foreign body. (That explains why it would seem you weren't having any reactions.) One month after delivery, your body still has enough pregnancy hormones to be affecting your immune system. I would get back on a gluten...
  22. fruit cups, jello cups, pudding cups (some can be stored at room temperature), don't forget carrot sticks, celery sticks, rice krispie treats made with the fruity or coccoa pebbles, perky O's cereal just a few things to add to the list.
  23. Trying to eat gluten again may not be as easy as it was before. I lot of people notice their reactions seem to worse than before. A piece of paper saying that you have Celiac Disease doesn't seem worth it when you are going to go through hell eating gluten and being so sick for a test. By the way your doctor did not do a full Celiac panel, if you just...
  24. Tell the ped. about your diagnoses. If the ped. knows that your children need to be screened for Celiac, then tell about their gluten free diet and how blood testing and endoscopy w/ biopsy would be negative. The only testing available in this situation is the genetic testing and may not be accepted as a valid diagnoses. Genetic testing may not even be...
  25. Basic cosmetology/ nail tech training has a few chapters about these. A dermatologist should have knowledge. There are numerous books about hair, skin, and nails. Each description of nail abnormalities is a symptom of an underlying cause. Doctors should consider all symptoms for diagnoses. Laura
