  1. Absolutely right....hate to put it in these terms, but "connect the dots" is the way for a total system evaluation. Celiac disease will not be found if the patient falls thru the cracks when doctor treats "a la carte" style. My husband had doctors: 1) think he was lying 2) think he was a drug addict 3) think he was mentally ill 4) think he...
  2. Susan - I can imagine people wanting plastic surgery so badly that they'll lie about their underlying health conditions....but I can't imagine someone lying about having diarrhea and gas. So please tell your Dr. friends that it's unlikely someone who doesn't want plastic surgery would lie about gastro symptoms. I suppose in plastic surgery practice there...
  3. Tim: We have had very bad, frustrating, malpractice-type experiences with Vet Adm. GI's ....is there a way that you can find name of that Navy GI at Bethesda and perhaps desmarj can go there? Tim were you medically discharged?
  4. Did GI run blood tests IgA, IgG, ARA, tTG, EmA as per Celiac Sprue Assn. recommedations? How long have you been in Navy? Are you comfortable asking Navy GI this question without sounding like you have an edge in your voice "What proof do we need to make a positive diagnosis?"
  5. We always "BYOB" for that very reason...
  6. ....some commercial chocolate have Lactose in them (specifically Nestle's) and if you are lactose intolerant you can get gastro symptoms...... I haven't read an M&M bag ingredients in a while - so not sure if they have lactose or not....

  8. About a year ago I learned that someone that someone knew in Connecticut had died from complications of celiac disease.....this person's boss knew this man from their golf club.
  9. I have purchased over the past 4 years the CSA Products Guide and Clan Thompson. I use them, and would use them more, but most of the foods on their lists aren't sold in my area or the stores aren't in my area. For instance, the Wal-Mart in my area does not really sell food - some canned & frozen items but I've yet to find something in there made...
  10. I have a friend who gets stomach massaged....he specializes in lympathic massage.....it sounded kooky to me; he tells her he feels that her liver is enlarged (wouldn't one have symptoms of enlarged liver?). Anyway he is very expensive (he is not a doctor) and she's been doing to him for about 3 years. After the first year he tells her that her liver is...
  11. Peanut butter is high in fat and especially hard to digest - all nuts are. It may or may not be the fat or, may or may not be the sugar bothering you...but if it is, all cookies are off limits until you heal or figure out what you are additionally sensitive to. Egg yolks are high in fat too.... You could have allergy to egg. Sugar substitutes like sorbitol...

  20. Quite right..... During the introduction of Wonder Bread (1940's?) I don't believe there was such a thing as "multi vitamins" or they were just being introduced. Many children were given Cod Liver Oil as the "vitamin" supplement - some parents couldn't afford to buy anything but Cod Liver Oil. Wonder Bread marketed something that acted...
  21. I think one of the issues with wheat bread (white and whole wheat) is that the commercial bread manufacturers use "enriched flour". So far, I have not seen gluten-free flours or mixes using an enrichment such as that. Remember that old advertising slogan from Wonder Bread: "Wonder Builds Strong Bodies 12 Ways" Now we can laugh about that ad....
  22. Maybe it has too much baking powder in it?
  23. Our sentiments exactly.....we have been mulling over telling my sis in law that we don't want to eat over on Christmas due to the CC issues which we KNOW exist at her place. We don't want to place a heavy responsibility on her and would rather eat at home. She doesn't take No for answer.....
