  1. You should have a little refrigerator in your dorm room to stock with safe foods, because you're not going to survive on what they have available to you.
  2. Casein is milk protein. Lactose is milk sugar. Most lactose drains away in the making of cheese, and the rest may go away in the aging of it, but casein is forever. Try it and see if it works for you.
  3. People only start questioning when you really sound apologetic, like you're unsure of yourself. Don't be. Never make excuses.
  4. You are obsessing over everything. You need to not get caught up in little details. Step back and let the big picture start to happen before you rush to judgments.
  5. "Teriyaki" traditionally has regular soy sauce in it, which is made with wheat. You can make your own with tamari or other wheat-free soy sauce.
  6. Try to eat more calories, especially more fat will help you support your milk production.
  7. A while back I found a dairy-free chocolate mousse recipe on a kosher recipe site. I remember the recipe was really good, a little marshmallowey. I looked, but didn't find it in my recipe archive, but I did find a Open Original Shared Link to a similar recipe.
  8. I try to take responsibility for my own health. The way this works is, if I figure out that something is hurting me, I don't do it, rather than asking a doctor if it's ok for me to stop doing what's I know is hurting me. If I find that going back to eating whatever bothers me causes those exact same symptoms, then my self-diagnosis is confirmed. This dovetails...
  9. O-negative here.
  10. I get tapioca flour at my local Vietnamese and general Asian market. They have all kinds of starches and blends there. I haven't figured out what to do with lots of them yet. There is a blend of rice starch and tapioca starch that can be used for making extruded thick clear noodles, soft rice noodle wrappers, or dumplings, for instance.
  11. I had an awful time explaining it to a Cuban chat buddy, in Spanish, of course. "I can't eat wheat" "OK" "I can't eat wheat flour" "OK" "I can't eat bread or pizza or pasta..." "OMG!!!"

    ARCHIVED Casein

It took me about a week after giving up dairy before I was able to fit into pretty shoes.
  13. Some people feel better almost immediately, others take weeks or months to feel better. Did you read the ingredients list on the soup? What sort of starch was it thickened with?
  14. Be careful to buy gluten-free corn muffin mix. All standard corn muffin mixes contain wheat flour.
  15. It looks like I have no trouble eating goat's milk cheese, but sheep's milk cheese seems to bother me. Try goat's milk cheese. If it doesn't bother you, then just eat it instead.
  16. I've always just grabbed a cookbook off my shelf when I wanted to make it. It's pretty basic stuff. It's probably not like any "corn cake", true spoon bread is like a corn pudding. It's called "spoon bread" because you dish it up with a spoon, rather than cutting it with a knife.
  17. I've never had a sweet spoonbread. Traditional spoonbread does not contain wheat. Here's a Open Original Shared Link I got by googling. There are thousands of recipes online. Add sugar to taste.
  18. I had a reaction something like this to coffee! No rash, but I got feverish, had abdominal pain, feeling achy all over. I gave up coffee, and it has only happened on the rate times when I drank it again.
  19. Has she been eating anything with white frosting on it lately?
  20. I bought Open Original Shared Link cast iron pizza pan. It cooks as well as a stone, but it has handles, and you can put it on the stovetop to preheat it much more quickly.
  21. I wouldn't write a letter. I would call to complain.
  22. Tamari shouldn't have wheat in it. Tamari is a type of Japanese soy sauce that never has wheat by definition. Shoyu is the standard Japanese soy sauce that always contains wheat. But having said that, you should always read the labels, as this is not Japan.
  23. Actually, white chocolate has loads of milk solids in it, so it's just a no-go.
  24. If you are sensitive to fat, then you should avoid them. But if you are trying to lose weight, you should know that it's a myth that cutting out fat from your diet will make you lose weight. The concept caught on because it was easy to understand and easy for companies to make a buck off, but science didn't follow through with supporting studies. Fat...
  25. I've had a refurbished KitchenAid mixer for about 8 years. I've really challenged it, too.
