I agree--the law suits are frivilous, stupid, and ENTIRELY counter-intuitive to the goals of celiacs. Law suits of this nature are going to scare away McD's and other chains...

I'm a newbie so I'm sure there will be tons in it that I don't know yet. My copy shipped Thurs. so it should be here Tues. I'll report back the difference between it and Wheat-Free, Worry-Free which is the only other general book on Celiac I've read so far.
I've read both, so I can tell you that there's a HUGE difference--mostly in content.
- Danna Korn (Wheat-Free, Worry-Free) writes in a lively, funny way--a lot about lifestyle, eating out, reading labels. She does a little bit of explaining with regards to tests, but it's not too technical
- Dr. Green writes in a less humorous way, more... to-the-point, I guess. He spends probably 70% of the book on technical aspects... what causes celiac, what's actually going on medically, related disorders, testing, history, post-diagnosis check-ups. I found the lifestyle section short, boring, incomplete, and weak (which makes sense, since he himself is not celiac). The technical aspect was superb (naturally).

You can get home testing kits, but they're unreliable and expensive (for just testing food).
BTW, Susan, my 10-year-old brother says your dog is cute

I got mine three days ago.

Cool! I like Danna Korn's books a lot.

Scott should make a "McDonald's" section of the board--I bet it would have more posts than the current "Sports and Fitness" or "Gluten-Free in..." sections (except for Canada).
Oh, that's a joke... whoops

We don't typically attack people here, particularly newbies who are just learning about the diet--the last thing we want to do is seem unwelcoming. And if you feel anyone's being nasty to you, use the handy "report" button.
Feel free to ask away, because chances are it's been asked before (I'm sure I've seen the yeast question at least 4-5 times) and we'd be happy to help you

Yes--it's actually really simple even when you get it in the unprepeared (dry mix) form. The first two times it takes awhile, but it gets really easy to make after you get the hang of it (I'm 15 and I can make it, so I'm sure college kids could, too

To my knowledge:
The video capsule endoscopy takes images, but the main problem is that it can't take intestinal samples, which are the CRITICAL part of an endoscopy, moreso than the images. So it is an inferior means.

I'll also send you information on even more gluten free secrets such as:- Where to get gluten free bread that tastes like REAL BREAD.
- How to convert regular recipes into gluten free recipes.
- Restaurant tips while on a gluten free diet.
- Access to 360+ gluten free recipes, all organized in one place.
- How to save money on gluten free foods.
- And more...
Scam? Who knows? There are basically two possibilities:
1) There's the possibility that it is a scam: some person who wants you to sign up and will put you on some spam list or send you virus-containing e-mails with these so-called secrets.
2) There's the possibility that this person is being truthful in intention (her privacy and terms pages are gone now--broken link--so you can't really even get an idea). That said, there's no REAL BREAD that everyone else is clueless of. It could be Whole Foods, Kinnikinnick, or any number of possibilities. Besides, that's an opinion. So scratch that point--not that big a deal. Conversion of regular recipies--maybe she means flour exchanges, but those differ from recipe to recipe. My opinion: ask Mireille (lady on Delphi Forums who's a celiac and runs a restaurant in Canada--absolute genius with recipes and posts 10-20 on the recipe section EVERY DAY--maybe that explains, in part, her 30,000 posts on that forum). That also knocks off the next point about 360 recipes--Mireille has put thousands on the Delphi web site--also free. Save money on gluten-free foods--another bad point: could be the tax writeoff suggestion, could be buying in bulk, getting codes from some online support groups to save 10% off of orders from certain vendors, or the like--nothing you can't find out too easily.
I'm not signing up; I'd bet I already have better resources than that, and I know where to find better resources than anything she can have in her files. Plus, downloading files from a stranger is just plain dangerous. Ask me if you need help on any of these points and I can direct you to better internet resources

All Pepsi softdrinks are gluten-free--not necessarily all products. But yes, that encompasses diet caffeine free pepsi.

Not the pizza crust-- I've never seen the pizza crust and I'm happy with Chebe.
They have a pre-made pizza, which is really convenient and REALLY good--just out a few months ago.

Congratulations! That's a huge mental step to know that you've successfully completed your first (and hardest) year.

IT WASN'T GEORGE----IT WAS GLUTINO--PREMIUM SUPREME- PLAIN BAGELS
We did try them this am, and don't think I'll buy ANYTHING ELSE in the bread dept...ever again..
I told my hubby how great they were and he tasted one and agreed. Now he usually won't eat any of my bread stuff...Bless him, got me a new toaster and he likes his special bread and now cuts it himself and toasts in his toaster..
I don't even eat much bread any more..just put all on salad or wrap in lettuce ..the bread is so gross who needs the calories
Of course they were frozen so put one in micro wave and put at 're warm' where IT decided how to cook it. looked in after what seemed like a min...it was puffing up
so took it out and sliced it and put in toaster. OMG it was as good as a REAL ONE.
Snowed in so going to do a nice big breakfast which we don't usually do
Judy
I know, I LOVE GLUTINO bagels!
My favorite "George" product is the pizza, I think. The muffins are very realistic, though--I'm just generally not a big fan of muffins. Eng. muffins are pretty good, too.

In medication, you need to check maltodextrin.
In food, in the U.S., maltodextrin is made from corn unless it specifically states "wheat maltodextrin."
-
Absolutely--in light of my other question, I forgot to thank you for writing articles on celiac and helping us get out the word.
-
Oh, I see. I had heard about the incident referred to a few days after it happened, but I was afraid something else had happened during my few days away.
-
I'm not eating them for now. I am just slightly confused over the whole thing, so I am not going to take any risks. I actually had their fries 2-3 days after they enacted their new system and didn't get sick, but they may not have completely shifted yet. With the conflicting and muddled information (contain wheat by definition, but safe because it's removed), I am just going to wait for this to be cleared up.
