ARCHIVED Too Brain Fogged To Figure It Out!
brendygirl replied to brendygirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, Mango. I just blogged and feel much better already. Although I ate the last of the pancakes this morning...we'll see. I know this sounds crazy, but I really feel weird about the thought of having to throw out my veggie/kielbasa, since I worked hard on it and it's the only thing that appeals to me besides chocolate shakes, popsicles, mangos, almonds... -
July was terrible for me last year and it's the same again this year. Where to begin...well, amazingly enough, I can make an entire LIST! 1. I didn't get the promotion at work. 2. They didn't throw out my duplicate traffic light camera ticket ($387) 3. My grandma wrote me a letter saying thanks for taking care of her during my visit, but no more gifts-...

Yesterday I got glutened badly. After I'd already been suffering from ear pain (fluid in ears) and extreme fatigue and joint pain all weekend from eating something bad Friday. I made myself eat even though I had no appetite and felt nausea. Yesterday I ate: TraderJoe gluten-free pancakes and jam that I've been eating every day since I bought them. I ate...

First he told me I had lactose Intolerance, which he had, too. Funny, going off dairy made me L.Intol. Since then, I've gotten back on it. Then he said my back pain was from slouching and to do more situps (I was aerobics queen as it was)...plus then I'd look at my fat, slouching husband and wonder how his back didn't hurt...???? I begged for the bloodtest...

ARCHIVED Ice Creams..
brendygirl replied to Jix Hedgehog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That would be good to know about the vanilla, except then why are certain Brands of vanillla ice cream NOT gluten free when all they have for ingredients are cream, sugar, milk, and vanilla? -
I have eaten at Outback several time with no reaction. I get the 9 oz. steak w/baked potato and unseasoned veggies and sometimes the chocolate dessert thing. HOWEVER I DID get glutened when I had salad and mashed potatoes there one night, so I don't know what happened but I don't get those anymore.

Just wanting to know whether we can eat prime rib. Is there something in the juices that make it off-limits? Seems like I had it on my road trip in Omaha, Nebraska, and did not react...but managers at restaurants are telling me no.

ARCHIVED Going To Summerfest Today!
brendygirl replied to isiskingdom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I were you I'd take CrunchNMunch. I like the Toffee kind. I'd also take potato chips and applesauce or pudding. You can probably eat an ear of corn and a snow cone and a burger with no bun at the fair! I do. Have fun! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hot Dog Buns
brendygirl replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I also microwave my Kinnickinnick. I used to put em in the oven, but too crumbly. I defrost them first in microwave, then heat for 20 seconds or so. They're great and easy to heat! -
Celiac Specialties sent me the cinnamon rolls finally and they are SPECTACULAR!! SOOO delicious! The tortillas (gluten-free option for flour tortillas) are ok, but defeat the point of a flour tortilla since they don't bend very easily...I made it into a quesadilla, but folding it into a burrito would probably be impossible. I also LOVE the apple streudel...

ARCHIVED Fortune Bouquet
brendygirl replied to laurelfla's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I love that idea! I used Martha's ideas for my bouquets back in 2001...using spherical bouquets with ribbon handles, resembling purses. Gorgeous and unique. Perfect for me since I'm known for being "girly" and loving handbags. -
Thank you all so much. I have low iron and take supplements and try to keep up with it in my diet. (All of my vitamins smell good to me, too!) But, I am not very good with eating carbs. I get bloated from an entire Gluten-Free hotdog bun, for example, but I try to eat some a couple times a week since I read an article about how Gluten-Free products are...

I'm so glad to hear about this. I think if celiacs just eat beforehand or stay home and never venture out and explain our needs to people, then it will never get easier. Kudos to you for your efforts!!

They took second helpings! The Japanese Rice Coconut Pudding turned out fine. It looked and tasted like oatmeal with cinnamon in it. I guess, since oatmeal isn't something we get to eat, it was a happy coincidence. Although I did read about some type of oat that has a low enough level of gluten.... I have been dealing with somewhat of a dilemma. The...

It is terrible. About a half hour after I wake up in the morning about twice a week I have nausea. It can last for hours. If I force myself to eat sometimes it goes away. I don't know what to do. No, I'm not pregnant. I have it right now. It is the worst feeling. Sometimes I think I get it after I haven't had much for dinner the night before. Any...

ARCHIVED Wheat Field With Crows By Vincent Van Gogh
brendygirl replied to Ken70's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you so much for this post. I really feel like being a celiac is more than a diet. I have shared about feeling nervous around stalks of wheat people decorate with as well as having a disdain for the social studies lesson I have to give about wheat being the "seed of life". Thank you!! -
ARCHIVED Toasted Marshmallows
brendygirl replied to shan's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
KRAFT are gluten-free. I think i get Stay Puffed. Just look at the ingredients, they are pretty straight forward. ENJOY!!! I LOVE them! -
*Drum roll* Did she make a long weekend trip in Washington D.C. without getting glutened?NO. Positives: there was a WHOLE FOODS where they had an omelette lady we took advantage of for breakfast and we bought stuff for picnicking! I ate at Joe Theisman's restaurant (salad and bunless roast beef) and it was FANTASTIC. So, we ate there the next night, and...

I thought that we could NOT have Bailey's Irish Cream. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Restaurant Menus Online
brendygirl replied to laurie1067's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Ruth Chris has some stuff, so does Olive Garden (I don't trust it tho- I get tense with all that bread and pasta all over the place) Tony Romas barbecue Sauces, ribs, and chicken are gluten free. I also eat at Farmer Boys with good results. Mimi's Cafe has a gluten free menu, too.. -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Frosted Donuts....yum!
brendygirl replied to melie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I eat both. I order the fresh ones from Celiac Specialties and they ARE fluffier and more like "cake" donuts. I also love the frozen Kinnikinnick ones. I heat them up. They aren't as "real" as the above, but they are more fudgy. Both are sinful. I've eaten more than one at a time and I have to be careful!! They are awesome! -
I date often. My blog has a lot written in it about it. Yes, it does affect dating. Yes, I've been glutened on dates. I agree with gdobson's reply that I do give them a "heads up", but guys really don't care much, since many of them tend to be picky eaters themselves(don't like tomatoes, sour cream, etc.). Also since many women eat like birds or have...

ARCHIVED Ice Creams..
brendygirl replied to Jix Hedgehog's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vanilla extract has to be alcohol free to be gluten free. Lots of vanilla flavored foods are NOT gluten free. I don't eat vanilla ice cream because I've been glutened by it. -
Vanilla extract has to be alcohol free to be gluten free!! I also thought Haagen Daas was on the NO list regardless. Perhaps you should check on that one lady's blog with the product list. Baskin Robbins has all the allergy info. on their placards in the window of the display. We can have a few types of Ben and Jerry's and a few other brands. We can...

The Friday started off typically enough-had vitamins and organic corn flakes with raisins for breakfast and off to work. Played staff-vs-5th grade softball game. Staff won, saving the principal from having to spend Mon. morning on the roof. Now 5th graders must uphold their end of the bet by losing a recess. ANd no one got hurt (last year the 20-something...
