You might want to wash your own dishes with your own personal dish rag. It's a real bummer about the birdseed. If, as you say, the bird is on its last few months of life anyway, why not just buy the millet and other safe seeds and make your own mix with vitamin supplements from the vet(?), and keep the bird. I doubt that not having wheat seed would harm it because there is no wheat in the tropics where these birds come from.... -
I make pudding from scratch - no mixes. I do believe, though, that there has to be some fat in the liquid for the starch to thicken up properly (which is why Jello puddings say not to use skim milk). I'm sorry you're so miserable - hope tomorrow will be better for you. For now, it might be best to just eliminate all dairy and give your body a chance to heal up. If it is the damaged villi not being able to handle the casein, then it makes more sense to me to let some time go by before introducing it again.

I'm casein intolerant - for life (dx. from Enterolab). Symptoms vary from one person to another. I'm not totally sure what all my symptoms were from eating dairy, but one I do know for sure was itchy skin, and so sensitive that it would welt from scratching lightly with my fingernails or drying with a towel. Interesting discussion here. I don't eat at fast food places because of other food allergies (corn, soy, dairy, etc), but if I were desperate, I'd probably go to Wendy's and get a plain baked potato - asking first that they put on clean gloves and don't cut the potato. Laymen's definitions: Hypoglycemia - the pancreas secretes too much insulin and so it "eats up" all the sugars in the blood too quickly. Blood sugar level goes too low. I cook a lot, and wash my hands a lot, which doesn't help with dry skin. Rather than use hand lotion all the time, just to be quickly washed away, I keep a small container of a mixture of coconut oil and olive oil and use this generously while I'm in the kitchen. If only I should be so fortunate. I did read somewhere that gluten can affect the hormones which is why going gluten-free is helpful for this. Apparently gluten is not causing mine so no relief going gluten-free. I'm 60 and still have the darn things! It's been over 15 years for me. -
I couldn't afford a stand mixer, and I burned out the motor of my small (and very old) hand mixer with the thick gluten-free doughs. I bought a heavy-duty KitchenAid, 5-speed hand mixer for $50 that comes with regular beaters and dough hooks. It's working out very well.

I guess no one reads "The Little Red Hen" anymore. She planted and watered the seeds, they sprouted and grew into the wheat plant, she harvested the wheat, ground the wheat, and baked the bread. (All without help from her friends, I might add - who only wanted to help her eat it!)

An alternative to commercial broth: Brown the meat in a skillet with a bit of oil (don't burn). After removing the meat, add some water to the skillet to loosen the brownings - add water to equal the amount of liquid you would normally put in the crockpot. -

Stew sounds like a good idea - especially in a crock pot - people could easily serve themselves. If he reacted to the tomatoes, I wouldn't serve any food with hot pepper or bell pepper, as they are in the same food family - just to be on the safe side. Can you all eat corn? Small corn-on-the cobs with dairy-free margarine or even olive oil. -

Yes, it is a great loss. And you are in mourning - go ahead and cry. Sometimes we just need to do the emotional thing, even in the midst of rational thinking. Go ahead and rant and rave when you get angry (this forum is a great place for that). We all understand.

I don't have your symptoms, but when I read the description of the location of the pain/spasm, it made me think immediately of the ileocecal valve - which can sometimes get stuck closed, or open. Good question. I'm wondering myself. So far I've been packaging 4 slices together in a plastic bag and freezing so that only a small amount need be unfrozen at a time. I don't refrigerate it but put the bag in a plastic tub on the counter. My husband eats two slices a day, so they only stay at room temp for a day or two. Wondering what others do. -

Hmmmm... I'm going to have to try that. I've never actually had Sushi (don't like the thought of raw fish!) - but this sounds like it might be good... maybe with cooked frozen stir-fry veggies???
