  1. A gene test is absolutely accurate (unless they mix up samples, which is uncommon). Your genes don't change. They can test your rash to see if it's DH. It wouldn't be that hard.
  2. Yep, come on over to the gloomy side! This corner of the Americas has lots of overcast days, not nearly so much rain as they show on Grey's Anatomy, tons of green, and a lot of health conscious people which makes eating around here more of a pleasure and less of an ordeal.
  3. My personal opinion is that it's barbaric to have someone slice a piece out of my body just to prove something that I can tell is a problem by my choice of food. But as others have said, sometimes the true picture of the damage to your body helps keep your resolve strong. But that being said, if the biopsy is negative you have to read the result as "Thank...
  4. Well, you can always make a similar comment about "not be cooking for you again".
  5. Actually a little gluten isn't a problem for someone that has no sensitivities. Nor is tobacco a problem (for most people) if it's kept at low levels, although bathing your lungs in a concentrated chemical of any kind isn't high on the list of clever things to do. And cocaine, the chemical in crack (I think, my knowledge of street drugs is a little lacking...
  6. Some people have nasal congestion as a symptom of gluten. Maybe all these years you've had mild allergies that seemed much worse because of the gluten.
  7. Ibuprofen and aspirin are both anti-inflammatories (Tylenol is not). If she is going to take something for pain you might consider one of those. You could try the enteric coated aspirin (but I don't know what's in the coating) or maybe baby aspirin mashed into applesauce.
  8. I'm not going to address all of the very interesting points people have brought up. My original intention was not to argue for msg, but to argue against blindly accepting someone's opinion when that person offers no independent documentation to support his opinion. Also against presenting opinion as fact. Is a little msg bad for you? Probably not...
  9. There are absolutely no references. How do you know anything he said is true?
  10. Can she take a day off from food to give her intestine some quiet time? Just drink ginger ale and 7-up and maybe green tea or herbal teas. Then start with bananas and maybe applesauce to see if it helps. Avoid anything harsh for a while like citrus or acidic fruits/veggies and have her boil all her veggies to mush. This isn't a permanent diet change...
  11. When I did a PubMed search on "monosodium glutamate neuro*" I only found one study, from 1976, that looked at the neurotoxicity of msg (in rats) and they found that it did nothing to nerve cells unless the rats were severely dehydrated. Another search using "neurotoxin msg" brings up studies showing that if you dose neonatal rats with msg you can/do cause...
  12. This is a brilliant idea. I finally did this and it's so nice to have a quick source of protein you know you don't have to cook.
  13. I can relate!
  14. If I were clever enough to remember how I did it the first time I would have written a description
  15. 74!!!! Break out the air conditioners!! (I'm in Seattle) (where today we have "filtered sunshine") (which is a polite way of saying 'overcast') (which is a polite way of saying 'gray, but not raining at the moment').
  16. And an option in your descriptor section.
  17. AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!! I've blown my anonymity!!!!
  18. It wouldn't hurt to try. I can eat just about anything (except gluten) in moderation until about 1pm. After that I'm careful with what I eat. Sometimes it's a little bit of one thing, sometimes it's too much of one thing. It isn't really a restricted diet, just a planned one. An all-out elimination diet would probably get you your answers much more...
  19. I'm still working out my sleep issues as well. I'm kinda of doing it backwards from an elimination diet. I know that I can eat chicken and potatoes and sleep great, so every few days I eat something different and see if I can sleep through the night. So far I can be fairly liberal with lunch and just restrict dinner. And I've added in rice and corn...
  20. Oh yes, Jeanna would like your marshmallow recipe as well.
  21. I would say: 1. The current definition of Celiac (as only villus destruction or only dh) is incomplete. 2. The identified "Celiac" HLA gene(s) are only the villi destroying genes, the others haven't been identified (because a more complete view of the disease hasn't been recognized). 3. If gluten makes you feel bad, then it's doing something bad to...
  22. Then we can mourn the loss of "real" graham crackers for making s'mores and tell stories about the good old days when we were young and the world (and our bodies) had no problems whatsoever. The next day we can follow up by asking each other if anyone had any problems and maybe it was cc and maybe it was a new intolerance for somebody, or maybe it was...
  23. I store my weird flours in the freezer, keep a working stash in the frig, and my "flour mix" on the counter.
