Recent updates, November 2010:
Tested positive for the HLA DQ2 gene, making my Celiac diagnosis almost certain.
IgA levels are still high despite following a strict gluten free diet for the last 6 months. Unknown whether I am continuing to consume gluten and/or have other food intolerances.
I got diagnosed with Celiac Disease on May 4, 2010. As an avid baker, this came as a particularly unpleasant surprise. For years I've been suffering from fatigue, poor sleep, restless legs, facial congestion (pollen allergies), acne, acid reflux and some weight loss (although not an alarming amount, and I like my weight now, ha ha).
I don't really have the stomach problems that many associate with Celiac, although IBS runs in my family and I'm suspect that some of my other family members may have it.
I currently live in Champaign, Illinois (about 2 hours south of Chicago) and work at an alterations store. As I'm relatively new to celiac disease, I'm trying to gather more information, do more research about my new diet and meet others who have this condition. I'm especially interested in meeting people who live nearby Champaign. Other than the internet, I feel quite alone right now with this condition and feel somewhat overwhelmed and alienated. I hope to meet new people, gather more information, get new recipes and more!
