Elizabeth Hasselhoff - The View

She mentioned that on the today show of the "View". Her daughter Grace had a gluten free birthday cake for her first birthday. (which she hated, by the way - go figure)

Wouldn't it be wonderful if she could get on board with us as a spokesperson.

I saw that this morning, too. I emailed her months ago about possibly doing a segment about Celiac on the View--and never got a response.

Just an FYI - it's Elisabeth Hasselbeck, not Hasselhoff.

Does anyone recall her eating gluteny foods while on Survior? ;)

Nope, no twinkies on the island.

Does any one know how to change my heading to the correct spelling or am I doomed to be the dumb butt of the day? B)

I heard her mention that today also. I googled her and gluten but could only find mention of her saying she doesn't eat gluten. Then I read she has said she has an allergy to wheat and that she may of said this for insurance purposes, if she said she has a disease instead of an allergy it would be harder to insure her?

That led me to a board about someone going to the View and asking if she ate gluten and she told them no but didn't expand on it. That's all I know for now.

Anyway Lisa if it makes you feel better I knew right away who you were talking about

I watched that today too, I am 19 and have actually been mistaken for her twice, I guess we really resemble, it is really strange she has Celiac too! I also tried to email her a while back and then again today! Hopefully I will hear a response!

It must be the day for gluten-free to be on the tube. My daughter and I were watching Raven and Raven went on a girls retreat with her girlfriend and the girlfriend's mother. They were in to all this totally healthy/yoga/spa stuff and then she said they were going to have organic gluten free spaghetti!! My daughter thought that was really cool!

Yeah, a while back there was a thread that listed all of the celiac or gluten free celebrities. THe one that stood out in my mind was "Posh" spice, Victoria Beckham.

Just emailed Elisabeth at The View, so let's see what her reply will be. It can't hurt if lots of people would email her. Just go to www.abc.com and the The View and you can get to her email. To have someone so beautiful, young and healthy looking have a gluten intolerance that would be willing to speak out on this issue would be great. Encourage her to do this. Barbara

I think the people in the audience were the "Celiac Chicks" and they gave her a t-shirt. If I am wrong -I got that info. from here.

As Seen On TV!

So, my adrenaline is still pumping from my experience Tuesday. I have to explain first that after we started CeliacChicks.com in August 2003 someone informed us that when Elisabeth Hasselbeck of The View first introduced herself she said something about not eating gluten. This report was confirmed by a few others. I for some reason signed up for tickets to the show only to forget about it. About a month ago,(which was over one year later) to my surprise, two tickets came in the mail!!! So, Kim couldn't make it but our honorary Celiac Chick, Lydia, accompanied me. I brought along one of our tshirts (available soon online) as a gift not really knowing how the heck I'd ever get it to Elisabeth, but just in case! The real mission though was to try to either confirm or debunk the urban legend of a celiac celeb.

Kelly & Lydia with The View set in the background

After we found our seats I asked a nearby studio employee how I would go about getting the gift to her. I was flatly refused no doubt due to past crazy fans making demands. So, I was totally disappointed thinking the whole plan was in vain. During one of the commercial breaks Barbara Walters came to our section and chatted it up with the group. Elisabeth remained seated most of the time being that she is almost due with her first baby. I was so frustrated!

We waited patiently through an interview with Bo Derek, Jeff Goldblum, and then a Real Simple editor showing all the amazing household uses for lemon juice. Then at the very end, after they were finished taping, Barbara said to the crowd, "Are there any questions? We're open to taking questions now." This was my chance!! I waved my arm frantically. Some lady was chosen and just gushed at how amazing they were. Then Barbara asked again, "Are there any questions we can answer?" I waved my arm again. Joy Behar pointed at ME! So I stood up and asked Elisabeth, "Is it true you follow a gluten-free diet?" I didn't want to say "celiac disease" since it doesn't really add to the Hollywood image and I could understand someone in showbiz avoiding that term. I guess since they are used to foofy questions they all didn't hear correctly the word gluten so almost in unison all five of them said, "What?" I tried another approach, "Do you not eat gluten?" And she nodded her head and said, "YES. That is true- you too?" So, I then said, "Yes, and I'd like to let you know about a resource called CeliacChicks.com that tells you where to find gluten-free food in the NY area. " She was so nice and enthusiastic ," OH thank you so much!! I'll be sure to check it out soon!!" So then I pointed to my tshirt I was wearing and announced that we brought one for her as a gift. She said, "Oh ...thank you so much...I'll be sure to send someone out in the audience to get it from you...Thank You! " I could see Star Jones stand in say to her, "What's that?" and she started to explain , "It's like an allergy..." Who knows? Maybe it was the topic of conversation back stage. Most importantly, I wrote a little note that if she ever wanted to help Columbia University's Celiac Disease Center or the NFCA that I could hook her up. Not that she needs my help!

So, that's the scoop. The Celiac Celeb rumor is true. Well, at least the part about her not eating gluten!

Does she have celiac or is she just following a gluten-free diet?

penguin Community Regular

My guess is that she is Celiac. I googled her and a couple different sites said she used a hypoallergenic (gluten-free) formula for her baby, though I don't remember the brand. Since the Celiac Chicks said she started to explain that it's "like an allergy", probably Celiac.

This is what I heard on the show yesterday--she said she made her daughter a gluten free cake for her 1st. birthday. Kind of under her breath (quietly) she said because of my allergy. Joy Behar then said--why did you make her a gluten-free cake?--it's YOUR disease. Elizabeth answered--well, they told me I should wait a year before introducing her to it. Joy also asked if it was hereditary, and she answered--it can be. Not exact quotes, but pretty darn close! :D

yah i read on celebritybaby.com "If you notice one of the ladies on The View isn't her perky normal self today, there's a reason. Elizabeth Hasselbeck learned on Thursday (March 9th) that her 11-month old daughter Grace has contracted pneumonia. Hasselbeck had just returned from the doctors office with the unfortunate news moments before Thursday's The View began airing live. Hasselbeck is married to Tim Hasselbeck, a back-up quarterback with the New York Football Giants"

Guess she is being very cautious of her baby

I'm e-mailing Elizabeth at the View and asking her to please consider getting Dana Korn on to talk about her new book. Dana was on tv this morning in San Diego and did a great job on a very short segment. I was very impressed with her and she talks almost as fast as I do!

I've never watched the show, but I just sent Elizabeth an e-mail.

Since she is in NY I told her about Babycakes so in the future she can get a cake for her daughter and also told her about the Namaste chocolate mix for a potentialy better do it yourself mix.

Ew! Out of all the "celebrities" on this earth, the only one we can claim as one of our own is Bitsy Friggin' Hasselbeck?

The woman is a twit, for crying out loud. And frankly, I'm not buying the Celiac Disease. I'm thinking she went on the Atkins diet one day and got confused. (And don't look at me like that, you know you were all thinking it too!)

Why can't we have a cool celebrity...like Angelina Jolie or Jon Stewart?

Although, I suppose I should be thankful that as long as we have to claim someone from "The View" as one of our own, at least it's not Star Jones.

I agree, um Angelina Jolie?!?

CeliaCruz Rookie

Compared to Bitsy, she sure is.

Not to mention the Academy Award, the fact that she's a Goodwill Ambassador to the UN AND she's having Brad Pitt's baby. Maybe not everyone likes her but I don't think "cool" is such an outrageous claim here.

I have to agree with the others - Angelina Jolie is gross.

I love Elisabeth - ever since she was on Survivor. She's from RI, and we have mutual friends who went to BC. Sorry, I have to whole heartedly disagree with you on the fact that she's faking Celiac. That's one thing I don't think anyone would do - unless they need a lot of attention, and have probelms.

It looks like their most recent clinical trial just finished up on 5-22-2025.
    • Fabrizio
Dear Scott,  please check the link https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT05574010?intr=KAN-101&rank=1 What do you think about it?

KAN‑101 is still very much in development and being actively studied. It has not been dropped—rather, it is advancing through Phases 1 and 2, moving toward what could become the first disease‑modifying treatment for celiac disease. https://anokion.com/press_releases/anokion-announces-positive-symptom-data-from-its-phase-2-trial-evaluating-kan-101-for-the-treatment-of-celiac-disease/

Thiamine interacts with all the other B vitamins.  Thiamine and B 6 make a very important enzyme together. With more thiamine and other vitamins available from the supplements your body is absorbing the ones you need more of.  The body can control which vitamins to absorb or not.  You're absorbing more and it's being transported through the blood.   It's common to have both a Thiamine and a Pyridoxine deficiency.  Keep taking the B Complex. This is why it's best to stop taking supplements for six to eight weeks before testing vitamin levels.
    • badastronaut
Yes I took a supplement that had B6 in it, low dosage though. I've stopped taking that. B1 doesn't affect other B vitamin levels?
