Bev-- :lol::lol: "Town ho" :lol::lol:

Celia, Sorry you feel bad this morning. :(

Vincent, I actually did notice you were nowhere to be found for a short time, but I figured you were busy working or with family. If you hadn't shown up soon, I'd have sent out the dingos :D

Judy--love it that you're here :)

And I second (or third? ) the safe restaurant in R'ville! I'd love to have someone else cook for me for a change. ;)

Hey, Dingo Girl! Don't know why you didn't get my email, but I've re-sent it. I wrote it when you were feeling so sad yesterday.

We had more storms roll through yesterday evening, so I had my computer turned off. The storms weren't as bad as the ones on Friday evening, which scared the spinach out of me! :(

Welcome to our new girls! Berneses, have you decided to accept the post of Professor of English at good ol' UCCF? We'll give you instant tenure.

Cecile, what a crummy dinner you had! Wish I'd been there to chase away that stupid waiter. I have the reputation, in my family, of being The Terminator.

Love and hugs to all!

Hi Cissie--I've missed you! Glad that you got through the storms unscathed. :)

I always turn the computer off, too, during a bad thunderstorm. Is it also necessary to unplug it? I have a surge protector, but I always wonder....It's been so hot this summer and that sparks a lot of thunderstorms.

I have a surge protector, too. No, I don't unplug my computer, just turn it off instead of putting it to sleep.

Thanks, y'all, for missing me. I'm happy to be back! :)

Rachel,

That really stinks about the lettuce. I sure hope you get over this msging quickly, and get some rest.

Cecile,

I hope your dinner effects clear out soon too.

Susan,

You'll do fine. Have fun.

Cissie,

Glad you are back with us today.

Patti,

If you don't have a computer/electronic designed surge protector your computer would be better unplugged. Plain surge protectors could still let some damage through. They are rated down to nanosecond I thing. Our computer techie Vincent should be able to better articulate on that though.

Julie,

Great to see you again. How is beautiful Colorado? Did I tell you one of my hubby's sister lives in Colorado.... she's in Lafayette. She's a hairdresser.

Ryan and Vincent,

As Susan said we don't send out search parties since you don't usually post alot. Where has Picard been lately? Vincent, you frequently post on other threads and I see your name so don't worry. It's nice of you to pop in and give us a laugh though.

Bev,

Hope your day is fun even though you aren't feeling that well.

Rinne, Robbin, Armetta, Evie, Judy and anyone else I missed......Good morning/day to you.

You're right, Andrea; that's what I have.

When we built my studio, I told my husband and the general contractor (Masonic buddy of my dh) that I wanted it wired for cable tv and a computer. Dh said it wasn't necessary, because he had a perfectly good computer in his office (right next to studio) that I could use. Once again, he underestimated his dear wife! :P

As soon as my studio was completed, I bought my Mac and a tv, and had Comcast install the whole works. So I do have the right kind of surge protector. My poor old dh will just never learn!!!

It goes much futher then that, and I will cut to the chase here no surge protection system can stop a direct hit from a lighting bolt. I have mulitple surgeprotection systems + power conditioning and backup, and if a bad strom comes through, I unplug everything. When I go away on trips I unplug everything befor I go.

No, surge proteciotn is still needed because you get spikes from the power company all the from things other then lightining and they can protect you from that, HOWEVER you have to replace them over time. The better ones have a ligth to tell you when they are no longer protecting you, if yours does not have any indicator, then you prbly need to replace it anyways. :)

This is so true :D We're definately a unique group B)

Vincent--Thanks a million for the primer on surges! I had always wondered about that stuff--I will be taking your advice and unplugging at the appropriate times from now on.

Quiet afternoon  I just made a batch of my grain-free chocolate chip cookies. They smell so good :P

DingoGirl Enthusiast

Donna....if you were gone for long of COURSE we woudl send the dingos...dang, I am going to make that tortilla thing...

YUP, I"M STILL HERE.....the twins had a sleepover and are not going, and I talked to my flaky niece over two hours ago, dunno what's up.....who knows if we're even GOING. I may just take the dingos myself up for a romp, we all need it!

Hey guess what - just had an Amber Frey sighting (that murderer Scott Peterson's former mistress) in the Save Mart parking lot - - she looked right at me from her charcoal gray Acura SUV - and it's funny when you look right at someone and know the face - - she is opening her massage studio in the same center as the new climbing gym.....ha ha

gotta turn this day into something useful..... :)

Cissie - - still no email.....? are you sending me a PM or to my usual email address????

Thanks, Vincent. I didn't think about a direct hit from lightning. So if another bad storm comes through, or if I go on vacation, exactly what should I unplug, and from what do I unplug it? I have so many plugs and cables and boxes and the large black box . . . I wouldn't know where to start!:unsure::unsure:

Hi Susan--I thought for sure by now you'd be climbing. Sorry the plans got changed

Is the painting finished?

AndreaB Contributor

Susan,

That's a bummer about your neice. I was looking forward to living this hike vicariously through you. That kind of thing sounds interesting......and really tiring.

I had something I wanted to add regarding my diet. I come here and socialize so much, I keep forgetting to say it

I figured out that another thing that was triggering my ever present D and cramping was my vitamins. I knew that Centrum had milk ingredients, but really didn't think it was enough to make a difference--wrong. I keep getting steps closer to feeling better--the spring water was a big step, and now the vitamins were also a big "duh" moment!

I also stopped eating anything that has citric acid in it--it's from corn frequently. This has helped considerably.

I guess what I'm learning (slowly) is that even tiny amounts of things like corn or milk or anything we're sensitive to can make a big difference--I had underestimated that.

Just thought I'd share :D

Well, Esteemed Goofiness, maybe you weren't meant to get it. I dunno. I used your regular email address. Doesn't matter; it's outdated by now!

ha ha ha ha - is the painting finished..... uh no, not quite.....an entire large room still to do....I got delirious last night and quit at 10. Was up half the night worried about not having enough for the kitchen/dining (they're connected)....

The flaky climbers will be here in half an hour, thank God. The dogs could see the climbing backpack and gear coming out, got such a sparkle in their eyes and a hopeful smile, tails wagging and following me to every room.....no...mommy......you're kidding...mommy are we really.....are we really going to.....to the M-O-U-N-T-A-I-N-S.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes: (if I speak the word aloud, they whip their heads around and Tika will howl a bit) and now they are depressed, because we haven't left yet and their hearts sank........... :) but they will be so happy passed out all of tonight and tomorrow, so, no staring!! :P

andrea, yup, live vicariously - not as painful! :)

Okay cissie, guess I wasn't supposed to get that email...oh well.....I"m sure I"ll have a meltdown again (dang, am I now going into menopause or something?:angry::angry::lol::lol::lol: and you can send your wonderful, soothing words then.

Penguin - - did I tell you hwo excited I am you're goign to cooking schooL? And how funny your "I feel like I"m in high school" comment was.... ha ha ha ha

Well, just what ever is plugged in to the wall outlet. In most cases you would have a million wires runnig all over, but only 1 or 2 actully plugged in to the wall outlet, they are the only ones that matter for this issue, so un plug them. That includes phone wires if you use a dialup or DSL modem, an cable if you use a cable modem.

The easy way to think of it is "is it connected to an outlet inthe wall, then unplug it"

Be sure to turn off/shut down first though :) Esply if you have a UPS becuase it will beep at you nonstop till you need drugs to get over it if you do not!

Thanks for sharing Patti. I have come to the conclusion, in this thread "everything means something", whether it be hidden citric acid, capsules on supplements, auxigro, cc, or the coconut filter in the water- it's all worth trying to eliminate to see if it makes a difference

I wanted to mention I have had "d" ever since I started taking Claritin to handle the high histamine levels. Don't know if this would be a connection for you as well.

That's a trip. I have seen people in person that are on tv and it always so strange. You stare at them like you know them from somewhere and then you rack your brain who it is, then you realize oh yeah. To me they look different in person, smaller or something, on tv they look bigger.

Amber Frey, what a horrible situation that whole thing was.

Hope you are having a better day Susan!

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Cristiana

Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
