Hi whoever is still on--came on to check one last time before bed-finally got everything done- and realized I had forgotten to log off before-I probably do that a lot.

Yes, Ohio can be exotic!! I love Kings Island. We used to be there a lot when we lived in Cincy. That is a gorgeous city and loved living there.

Armetta, I think of you often, my dear you have had way too much going on already. Is it the lung condition again? I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Rachel, I agree, you are more up-beat, more animated, and hopeful. So are you Susan. I am so happy to see it when there is some kind of healing. It is a journey, as we all know, that takes some of us on many different side roads, but hopefully to better health.

Well, good grief, Dave, a movie with a friend instead of online all night?!! You must give us a review of that movie. It looks funny and I love W. Ferrell. The last movie I saw was Superman and was disappointed in the Lois Lane-forget the actress - I thought the new superman was good, though and everyone else was good-Parker Posey, Kevin Spacey, and the actor who played Jimmy (forget his name too). I wanted to see the Lady in the Water too, but a friend told me it was not too good. Anyone seen that one? I usually go with a carload of son's friends and a one of my girlfriends to help me chaperone, so it is usually what the kids want to see within reason.

Well, I am so keyed up for this drive. I hate long trips. I usually get sick and numb all over no matter if it is train, bus, car, or plane-I get sick  . Say a prayer-my husband is the worst driver I know. He has a hundred guardian angels, though I think. Otherwise, we would have been goners long before now, lol.

Oh, Karen, I took too long typing and didn't see your post. I will pray for you too. You have had way too much for way too long. Take care and get some rest.

Uh-oh...geese are slipping again....don't tell anyone...but I snuck them some of Rachel's glutened crackers and Auxigro'd veggies! hehehehe B)

They were kind of out of it after that....and were totally amused by the "duck, duck, goose" game I showed them.....

Premature Post

Sorry, but you must have mistaken some wild geese for our geese, who wouldn't be caught dead eating glutened crackers and Auxigro'd veggies! Better mind your manners, young man. You are only our guest, since you're not gluten-free, and we made the rules long ago.

Several inhabitants have suggested that our geese are slipping. Not so! Your Minister of Defense has been ill, and unable to speak for her charges.

The geese have tried to be patient with recent not-so-subtle sexual inuendos, and with all the references to nudity and to strange men grabbing for Altoids being thrown from a float. But now they are putting their feet down! There are innocent children in Rachelville. We discussed, a few chapters ago, the freedom, safety, and security of our own childhoods, and vowed to provide, in Rachelville, a safe place for children to have the freedom to run about and play, without their parents having to worry about their safety. Therefore, the geese agree with Andrea that we must maintain a sense of decorum on our cult farm.

Sincerely yours,

Cissie

Minister of Defense, in charge of our miraculous, protective, Auxigro-detecting geese

Good morning Cissie, glad to see you in fine form. :)

I meant to stay up last night but lately I've been up by four or five o'clock a.m. and I'm asleep by ten p.m. I'm sorry to hear some are feeling so badly.

I've been avoiding chocolate and bananas and wonder if I am going through histamine withdrawal. Is that even possible? More likely it was really hot yesterday and being out in it triggered kind of a pre-migraine headache, I used an ice-pack to cool off my head and averted an all out migraine but I can still feel it this morning.

Time to take the dog out, see you in a bit.

jerseyangel Proficient

Well, not bad--I only had 4 pages to read this morning. What will I do with all of this free time

Rachel--No wonder your stomach was bothering you last night--having a car accident will really shake you up! The whole production afterwards with the police, etc. Good thing it was minor, and no one was hurt.

A couple years ago, I was headed to the bank after work. I was stopped at a light on a slight hill. When the light changed, the huge flatbed truck (the kind that transports lumber) in front of me rolled backwards--right into my car! I was honking the horn, but by the time he put on his brake, the whole front of my Explorer was smashed backwards--like an accordian. (I was sitting there seeing this unfold--like in slow motion) My car was pushed back into another van. I was so shaken up, I literally thought I was going to throw up. :o

Anyway, I hope that you're calmed down this morning. These things happen, I doubt it was the ice cream that did it! Be thankful that it wasn't worse, and try and put it behind you :)

Camille'sBigSister Newbie

And good morning to you, Rinne!

I hate that you're having to fight off a migraine! Lord, but those hurt!!! Would very strong black coffee help? There's a lot of caffeine in the cafergot suppositories I take for my migraines.

Not only are mine caused by msg, but also from bright, flashing lights, and loud noises. I couldn't go to double feature movies (Do they even have them now?), or the circus, or something like "Ice Follies," when I was a teenager. Even now I avoid concerts, etc. Another thing that brings on a migraine is sunlight flashing through trees when I'm driving.

One more thing: If I'm very tense, or stressed about something over which I have no control, I take a suppository before I go to bed that night. If I don't, then as sure as God made little green apples, I'll wake up with a migraine. I understand the science behind this, but it's too boring to repeat; besides, you most likely know all about it!!! :(

Usually I get up at 6:00 AM, so, since I need nine hours sleep at night, I go to bed at 9:00 PM. But yesterday the ulcer on my ankle hurt so badly I had to take pain pills, and I slept off and on all day. Now my sleeping schedule is all messed up!

Hope you feel better soon!!!

so...."once more into the breach," dear friends......moving on to other rooms to paint...carpets to rip up.....

Cool about not having to repaint! What's under that carpet, lol? I really need to get rid of mine but I have a feeling there's nothing pretty under it, so I'd have to then do something else... grrr. Having a nice home isn't easy when one is lazy (me).

back to reading...

Patti... yes, I know you might be a little embarrassed of being my twin right now... but... I had to let everyone see what I looked like... as you can all see... me and Patti are not identical twins.

 LOVE the new picture...it's so YOU.

Donna Yay...plums too! You GO girl.

Ummm...before I sing your praises did you actually make it the whole day yesterday? I can only recall two drive-bys and they were both pretty early in the day...wait...I think there may have been other drive-bys but no more mention of chocolate.

 Yes, I DID make it all day with no chocolate and no plums. :lol:But, I did have a soy latte. It's 6:09 am and still no chocolate!

Haha....I think about this too...I wonder if anyone here has read this thread in its entirety (other than me who cant remember past the page we are currently on).

I've read it all, I think, but I still can't remember what page we're currently on...I was thinking of leaving myself a post-it so when I get back to work I know exactly where to start!

Yeah...I got in an accident today. :(

Had to call Dave to explain why I couldnt return on time. :(

Dave was gonna come to "the scene" and help me out. I'm not so good at this since I usually dont crash into other cars (just other people who attempt to walk near me) . :P

Dave's kind of an expert on this....he's had lots of experience. :P

In the end....I handled it...but do appreciate his offer to assist me. I'm not ususally a damsel in distress but today I kinda was.

:o Sounds like you are mostly okay (from the accident I mean, )...hope so anyway.

I HAVE to read this thread several times a day or I am absolutely lost. That is why you saw me lurking. Today has not been a good one for me and have slept most of the day and am still in my PJ's. Tomorrow will be a better day as they usually are when I have a lousy one. That was certainly a convoluted sentence. So, I am finishing scanning the forum and off to bed (again), but hopefully for most of the night.

Hope you got some good rest and are feeling much better today!

Cissie, I'm going to make coffee, I've been avoiding it because of my stomach but it does work for headaches sometimes.

Rachel, sorry about the car accident, and yes to being totally stressful.

Rinne- I hope your migraine gets better. My sister used to get cluster migraines and they were awful.

KAREN :o:o:o Sweetie- I REALLY hope that you can feel better soon. This is awful and you have been suffering far too long. A big hug to you.

OK- I shall refrain from any more innuendoes as the geese have put their (webbed?) feet down. My apologies (altough I didn't know about the float????).

I'm off to a bad start today. Our fridge died last week and we lost about $200 worth of GOOD groceries not to mention random junk. The new one was supposed to come today but my landlord ordered the wrong size and they couldn't get it up. So I have been fridgeless for a week on top of feeling like holy-heck. I'm pretty much at my wit's end. You know how you say I'm at the end of my rope? Why does it seem like the rope always gets longer?:(:(:( I've had just about enough.

I'm leaving Saturday for 10 days in Seattle and I can't wait.

Got initial blood test results back yesterday and they don't look good either. Ugh!

So like to grow my own veggies!! Older I get my green thumb gets greener!! :) Hope Rachel is less jittery after her little accident yesterday, that will mess you up in many ways..'been there..done that'. Better get SOME work done, daughter and hubby coming Fri. for a couple days, don't want them to think I spend ALL my time on computer (quite). Slow cause its very informal (but free!) I would love to get in a more formal/structure program. But I can communicate with a deaf person who is a bit paitent. :) I attend one on Sunday and one on Wensdays.

Just a lot of numbers are low that shouldn't be and high that shouldn't be:

White blood cell count is 2.8 (scale 4-11)

RBC 3.74 (under 4 is low)

HCT (is that homocysteine?) 35.8 (36 is low)

MCH 33.8 (over 32 is high)

MCHC 35.4 (over 35 is high)

My NEUTS (I can't figure out what this is) are low 49.7 (above 50 is normal)

UreaN is low 3 (below 6 is low)

looks like vitamin deficiencies? I dunno' . i'll find out more today and tomorrow. I'm so tired. :(:(

dlp252 Apprentice

Bev, could NEUTS be this?

NAME NEUTS (neutrophils)

NORMAL RANGE 2.2-8.6 K/ƒl

DEFINITION

These are white blood cells that play a key role in inflammation, allergic reactions, pus formation, and in destroying bacteria and parasites.

EXPLANATION OF TEST RESULT

High neutrophil counts often mean infection or inflammation. Interferon treatment is associated with low neutrophil levels. Therefore, you must have adequate (normal or near normal) levels of neutrophils to start therapy with interferon. The absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is the total number of neutrophils in your blood. If your ANC is below 500/ƒl, you are at increased risk of infection.

I've been buying my seeds and nuts from Prana Organics for a number of years because the products have been GFCO-certified. I just got a new order delivered of their flax and sunflower seeds, and it turns out that they are no longer GFCO-certified. Instead, it just has a generic "Gluten Free" symbol on the package. I reached out to them to ask what protocols/standards/testing they have in place. The person that wrote back said that they are now certifying their gluten free status in-house, but that she couldn't answer my questions related to standards because the person with that info was on vacation. Not very impressed, especially since it still says on their website that they are GFCO-certified. Buyer beware!

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Cristiana

Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
