Susan,

The new avatar is for you.....temporarily.

I'll be back. Gotta reboot the computer, it's going schizoid on me. It's all the nugget's fault!

It opens a new window everytime I click on something.

Andrea, I know what you mean. I was searching hotels in Cape May and now I have about 20 little white boxes on my screensaver :o:(

Rachel -- I know I have the same moodieness problem, and I don't think it's hormonal. It is more pronounced since my dx, but it is getting bad. ie. Last night I got mad at DW for FLIPPING THE PAGES ON THE NEWSPAPAER TOO LOUD!!:o:unsure:

Sounds silly, and NEVER would I get mad at her for anything, but the paper think was driving me CRAZY!!

Anyway, I read somewhere, that moodinesscan be a signed that we have been glutened or something. I know that can be the number one symptom for me.

Carla -- Love the new pic.

Talk to you all in the morning.

Donna -- I can relate about the Bumble Bar thing. ;)

I completly get like this and I hate it. If I am having a bad day . Especially is I am trying to eat any extra noise sends me over the edge. The other day I was in this health center I go to and I have the sweetest lady who treats me there she was asking me to explain symptoms and I felt like I already had I just started snapping at her then I would apologize and feel really bad but I would snap at her again. By the time I left I still felt bad and super guilty on top of it. I hate that I get like this

On the bright side of things....if I was still eating pizza and Baskin Robbins...I would have not met all of you.

I guess all things do happen for a reason eh? :P

Thanks, no wild oats or whole foods around here. Went to Trader Joe's - they didn't have it. Will check some of the smaller places.

Glad you got to eat out. I've eaten at Carrabas a few times- their Chicken Brian is really good. :P

A health section of a grocery may even have it.

Ummmm, straight sugar probably wouldn't be so good. How 'bout a bag of nuggets, chocolate chips, bumble bars, or container of ice cream. :P

Those seems to be the vices on this thread.

Umm, you forgot coffee .... I'm indulging today!! :) But, I'm not going to Rachel it ... I hope ...

Susie Q..did you go with your orange hair :huh::o:lol::lol:

Wanted to say Good Morning to everybody :)

I missed so much last night--don't know where to begin

Andrea--I missed your avatar (I think!) what was it?

Rachel--you know that I hope that you get to the bottom of everything. I've been following everything, and while I get overwhelmed with all of the info sometimes, I marvel at your tenacity! I also agree with everyone about The Dave

Carla--I hope you enjoy your coffee and 1/4 of a donut today. It's gonna taste like heaven after all this time :D

Vincent--Sounds like you got a bad coconut :( How would you test for a good one anyway

Julie--Orange hair??? Say it ain't so

Susan--I'm so happy to see you on and having some fun again! You sound perkier to me the last couple of days! :D

Judy--Hey buddy, hang in there! :) Did you and Jim have a nice drive yesterday?

Oops! I goofed :D It's not Julie with the orange hair, it's Susan :o I'm so confused

ok my vice I cannot have dairy but really do sometimes need ice cream. So even though I am allergic to soy I eat this one brand of soy ice cream that doesn't cause a really bad reaction . Lately I am eating it every night- I don't rachel it - but now I think I am addicted to it

I know about Rache--I left you a message over there.

Sorry to hear you're in so much pain. Will you be able to go swimming this week? That may help...maybe?

They left yesterday morning. I'm fine--started to paint the chairs (the sun was out) and 40 minutes later, it started to rain!

Hi Judy :)

Good Morning all....gonna try to be productive today. Lots of yard work to catch up on. Why did I never bother to call a gardener?? Its overcast outside....suppossed to rain next week. I'm not liking this at all. :(

Good luck with the yard work--I hope the weather holds for you. Our weather is nuts, and they never seem to predict it right. Like yesterday when I was just getting into the painting, and felt rain! I'm using black paint, too--and where the water drops hit, the original color bled thru  So as soon as it dries back out, I have to do those over. <_<

I also need to mow the lawn--gottta wait till that dries out, too. By tomorrow afternoon, I figure, I'll be kinda busy

JUDY!!!!! don't worry, dear one!! Yes, folks, was experimenting with highlights yesterday....did a test strand - left it on for over an hour - didn't like it - - um, somehow decided I'd just put some on my own head (I had cut the test strand off) and leave it on briefly .....OMG - it was COPPER PENNY ORANGE - - (my mom verified this) and I had to go out last night - - so I just put some temporary darker dye on it - that's how I was able to leave, Judy. :) But this means, Carla, I have to PAY someone lots of money for corrective coloring now.....

Why do I WAKE UP feeling SO tired????? :( I want to jump out of bed like I used to (I'm sure many of us do)....

Rachel - overcast - - it's that way here too and I"M in HEAVEN!!!!! I know you miss the heat but holy cow, I feel like I"m in Monterey again!

on a completely unrelated note....one of my dogs ate almost an entire abalone shell last night! :o WHAT is that about - I found abalone crumb remnants (so sad as I actually found one on the beach in Carmel, and you NEVER see them!)....is this pica?

okay gotta try and wake up now..... -_--_--_-

Good morning everyone!

Have fun Rachel......not. I certainly wouldn't have fun. I have a yard full of weeds. You ever notice how grass grows where you don't want it and weeds grow everywhere else?

Patti, the avatar was of a bag of nuggets. :D Trying to get Rachel to tell me what ice cream she its. She's not divulging it.

Miamia, be careful about that ice cream. Good to see you. :)

Susan, enjoy your cooler day down there.

Carla, easy on the coffee today and make sure you only eat 1/4 of a doughnut. I could never eat a quarter of a doughnut unless it was a BIG doughnut. Of course....I don't eat doughnuts anymore. I used to make some healthy homemade ones that weren't anything like the store bought sugar filled ones.

CarlaB Enthusiast

My 1/4 of a Kinnikinnick vanilla donut was DELICIOUS!!! I'm still enjoying my mug of Newman's Own Special Decaf with Vance's! VERY YUMMY!! I'm actually allowed to have one cup of coffee per day ... but I think that's just so people are more likely to stay on the diet, I figure I'll heal faster totally off it, which is what I'm reading on the internet and in my book. So, Sunday for me means 1/4 of a donut and a cup of coffee!

Mia, you might be craving it every night BECAUSE you are intolerant to it .... that's what happens to me!

Susan, sorry about the hair. As you learned the hard way, when lifting color, you have to let it process the whole time, especially when you have dark hair, or you get orange .... See a pro, wish you were here, my colorist might chew you out, but she'd fix it :P .... I pay a fortune for my hair color, but hubby doesn't care because he hates my natural color.

Andrea, I am going to guess Rachel is eating Haagen Dazs...am I right?

Mia Mia- I was just going to post something to you today, been wondering how your food challenges have been going. So sorry you had a bad day yesterday.

Vincent, sounds like the coconut might have been spoiled. If the eye was easy to get into that would be my first clue, only because I have heard they are like fortresses to break open  and then the fact that it was yellow and tasted like household cleaner.....I'm sure a bag of sugar would be needed after that

I made cookies last night  Peanut butter chocolate chunk cookies and they were GOOD :D I don't know what is going on with me but I am Racheling cookies lately, either Pamelas Chocolate Chunk or the ones I have made.

We are all Racheling everything right now, what's up with that? Must be the moon or something....

Susie, hope your mischevious girl is ok, that can't be good for the digestive tract, I wouldn't think  but then again dogs do eat everything, like canine garbage disposals

Off to watch football, have a great day everyone! :)

Rachel--24 Collaborator
Andrea, I am going to guess Rachel is eating Haagen Dazs...am I right?

Nope... :P

I dont think Haagen Dazs makes organic ice cream?? I was eating haagen dazs moths ago but it has eggs in it....which dont agree with me...also my eyes got irritated...they got itchy with dry red skin. It was nothing too terrible or even noticeable but still a bad sign that my body wasnt liking something in the ice cream.

I have a book on mercury poisoning that I got about 3 years ago. I could never read it cuz it sounded so much like what was going on with me....it scared me because I knew at the time that NOONE was gonna help me. Now that I have this doctor I'm reading it and learning alot. :)

Theres alot about diet in the book. It explains exactly how mercury causes digestive problems, intolerances, hypoglycemia, what foods are most problematic etc. It explains exactly what is taking place in the body that leads to endocrine (thyroid) problems, hormonal problems, brainfog, depression, memory impairment and all the other brain dysfunctions that can occur. Its really interesting and I can relate to pretty much all of it.

I wanna share some of the stuff it says but I dunno about copyright infringements and stuff like that??

I caused some drama once by typing out (word for word) what it said on my Triumph dining card.

I was just trying to be helpful.

Anyways, is it still an infringement if I explain what I read in my own words??

AndreaB Contributor

Rachel,

I don't have toxicity (maybe I should say yet), but I know I have mercury in my body since I have amalgams. My hair analysis showed low mercury.

I would like to know the foods. You could paraphrase things you wanted to share. If you just type out a couple paragraphs and quote the source of information that should be ok.

jerseyangel Proficient

Rachel--

I don't see how it could be a problem if you just tell us about it. Oh gosh--I remember the Triumph guy...

Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  One of the symptoms of Thiamine deficiency is difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD symptoms as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.
    • knitty kitty
@pothosqueen, Welcome to the tribe! You'll want to get checked for nutritional deficiencies and start on supplementation of B vitamins, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1.   There's some scientific evidence that the fat pad that buffers the aorta which disappears in SMA is caused by deficiency in Thiamine.   In Thiamine deficiency, the body burns its stored fat as a source of fuel.  That fat pad between the aorta and digestive system gets used as fuel, too. Ask for an Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test to look for thiamine deficiency.  Correction of thiamine deficiency can help restore that fat pad.   Best wishes for your recovery!
    • trents
Wow! You're pretty young to have a diagnosis of SMA syndrome. But youth also has its advantages when it comes to healing, without a doubt. You might be surprised to find out how your health improves and how much better you feel once you eliminate gluten from your diet. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that, when gluten is consumed, triggers an attack on the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestines where all our nutrition is absorbed. It is made up of billions of tiny finger-like projections that create a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the person with celiac disease, unchecked gluten consumption generates inflammation that wears down these fingers and, over time, greatly reduces the nutrient absorbing efficiency of the small bowel lining. This can generate a whole host of other nutrient deficiency related medical problems. We also now know that the autoimmune reaction to gluten is not necessarily limited to the lining of the small bowel such that celiac disease can damage other body systems and organs such as the liver and the joints and cause neurological problems.  It can take around two years for the villous lining to completely heal but most people start feeling better well before then. It's also important to realize that celiac disease can cause intolerance to some other foods whose protein structures are similar to gluten. Chief among them are dairy and oats but also eggs, corn and soy. Just keep that in mind.

I was just diagnosed at 26 after accidental finding. Any simple tips for newbies? Things a non celiac would never think of? I already went through my prescriptions and identified some medications that have gluten. Is there a beginners guide? Celiac for dummies?
