.....

I can handle vegetables but never raw- only cooked I but most of them frozen- these work best for me. Things like brocerlli I can;t handle whole really but I puree it in a paste or chop it really fine and then I can handle it - this is what I mean about kind of learning ways to prepare things so my system will "except " them.

It does make sense to me, I haven't had a salad in a year :( but for a time I was juicing and that was helpful. :)

Patti, that is big news. I hope you will be able to take the time not to get stressed about it all, moving is a big deal. And so glad you got to Starbucks. :) Thanks for the kind words, I am inspired by everyone here.

......

Susie, don't selll yourself short ... your humor is a VERY, VERY important part of this thread. We couldnt' send the Dingos after you before because you TOOK them with you! :o

Susan, you are an essential part of Rachelville, like it or not. :P We  you and those wild dingo dogs.

I tried to run away too :ph34r::lol: but I just couldn't stay away.

.....

Jin- You slay me me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You could be Slayer Spice?

Mia- Hmmm...you are very pretty and expotic looking so we must think of an exotic spice name for you! I've got it - you could be Casmir Spice (it's my favorite perfume...all vanilla and exotic!)

I could be Babs Spice or babesia Spice but I am NOT my infection. I am so much more :P I think I shall settle on Farts Like machine Gun Spice for now. It fots and if the fart fits, well....

I'll try to post more if and when I come out of this coma. I WISH I could be Peanut Butter Spice!!!!!!

Bev, great naming, I love Slayer Spice.

Almond spice would work for me with my addiction to almond butter and the rinne bars have almonds in them but it just seems so tame, I am not feeling very tame these days.:lol:

Help!

I appreciate the recent scientificness.

I return to that moment where I understood that with each breath I have a choice.

I can lean toward illness or I can lean toward wellness and the leaning itself has power, if the leaning is supported with nutrition, detoxification and treatment then wellness may be realized. Conversely, if I lean toward ill health even with nutrition, detoxification and treatment I may not ever get well. What is that?

I see a lot of people get tangled up in their sickness, their sickness becomes a belief system they imbed their lives in. I am not interested in that.

What can be poison for you may be cure for me, what cures me may harm you, the road to wellness is as unique as the person walking it.

What I love, love, love about this thread is our joy and determination to be well.

I love this statement.

There have been times where I have had to step back and make sure that this is not where I'm headed. I tend toward being obsessive, and I have to remind myself sometimes of the big picture.

See Rinne, this is what I was talking about before :D

Ooh--first some big news--Mark has accepted a position with a company in Upper Bucks County, PA! This means that we will eventually relocate there--he will commute for now. Lots to do to get the house ready to sell, etc--my anxiety is at an all time high

I'm so excited for you!!!! Try not to stress out about everything.....I know, easier said than done. :P Breathe, breathe deep.....exhale.......(that's what my hubby tells me when I'm getting stressed out).

Yes indeed. We love having you here!:wub:

I agree....and I also find it very exciting. :)

Yep, me too. I stayed out of the candida posts as I know nothing about it. May have to learn more after next year though.

I like that.......why can't you be PB Spice?

well HALLOOOOOOOO everyone!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for the very sweet comments. :)

Just a drive-by......Rinne puts things so eloquently.....I know what I want to say to add to the above, but it won't come nearly as beautifully....just that, I think many, many people HIDE in their illnesses, and accept the wastebasket diagnoses and the state of illness, because in that state, much less is demanded of them as humans and as participants in the world.

It takes courage, strength, and not a small amount of ferocity and tenacity to become well.....as we all know. :) All, hallmarks of Citizens of Rachelville.

Love and happy Friday to all!

Almonds, cashews, brazil nuts, filberts/hazelnuts and pecans.

Yeah, I'm eating almonds cashews and walnuts, but rotating them so I don't eat the same ones all the time. These tested okay for me in all my testing...both traditional and alternative.

Ya the candida die-off is more like the flu. A little nausea thrown in but nothing like the all-encompassing 2ton nausea gotten while eating the wrong things.

My die-off was 2.5-3 days. And wasn't until the ND's pills. On the diet I was just feeing better every day for a week.

I can't remember if I had the nausea too, but probably did. The headaches started right away...either same day or next day of starting the diet, the aches came on either the second or third day and lasted the entire 2 weeks. :( Didn't even start taking Nystatin for quite a few months after that.

When you start back after the two weeks wouldn't you start at the dose you previously left off at?

Probably, lol. I don't know though, we'll see. I don't think I'll try to increase the amount (other than from yesterday to today with the second dose) more than every couple of days though.

Donna...good luck with the cumanda!!

Was this from Dr. S.??

...

I did not rachel that sunflower butter if that tells you anything.

Dr. Scott  suggested the cumanda and banderol (on a rotation)...I haven't run it by Dr. S yet. :P He'll probably just roll his eyes and say okay. :P

Glad I didn't try the sunflower butter then! ;)

Do you all ever feel like screaming, like a three year old, "it's not fair?!?!?" I'm actually envious of people who just go gluten free and they're good to go; gluten-free is a breeze compared to all this other stuff!

Actually, I haven't felt that way yet. I try not to think about the fairness of it...it is what it is and I'm doing everything I can to fix it. It IS frustrating though...most definitely...and I DO feel like screaming sometimes. :P It really would be great to NOT have to think about something before I ate it. All I really want to do is sit down with a big ole baked potato with sour cream and have a jar of peanut butter with chocolate chips for dessert.

A water what from who?

LOL just kiddin'

I don't remember if I've told you I like your new one you had up earlier today.....I think it's still the same this evening.

Let's see- Donna, I LOVE your new avatar!!!!!!!!What is it a painting of???

Thank you! It's not of anything that's real, lol. One day I wanted to paint mountains, so just made it up. There's a little eagle soaring in the lower left corner, but it's hard to see.

Donna is a nut - - how about Nutty Spice?

this just doesn't sound like something that should go up the scat hole - - A FIRE HOSE????

lunatic

Hum, thought nutty spice was taken, but it fits in more ways than one. :P

Oh, I totally agree about that fire hose heiniosity being so wrong on so many levels.

Heinous about the Sips Wine with Dingos incident. :P

dlp252 Apprentice

and continuing

Also...and this is another interesting thing that kind of led me to look more into chemicals and other things people can react to in foods. I have NO food allergies...no allergies to anything actually....been tested for lots of stuff and I'm totally negative with allergies.

I never felt like I have allergies anyway...my reactions seem to change in severity according to how toxic I am or how much candida I have.

Same here. I tested fine for food allergies...only reacted to oats. BioSET said something different of course and turned out to be very accurate.

And I feel the same about the environmental allergies...I tested and reacted to them, but I don't feel like I have them. Doesn't make sense, does it. But I told my doctor yesterday that I am almost positive they (the allergies) developed because of something else going on in my body.

Someone doesn't go from having NO allergies to being allergic to everything overnight, which is what seemingly happened to me. She just looked at me like  . :P And, my allergies, even to trees, etc. don't react like normal allergies. I don't sneeze, I don't have watery, itchy eyes, nothing. A lot of my symptoms were explained away as "allergy related" but weren't helped by allergy medicines, shots, etc. Only when I started figuring out all the other issues, did the symptoms improve.

And besides, we are all strange here.

Yes we are, and I love that about us.

Ooh--first some big news--Mark has accepted a position with a company in Upper Bucks County, PA! This means that we will eventually relocate there--he will commute for now. Lots to do to get the house ready to sell, etc--my anxiety is at an all time high

Congratulations!!! So THAT was the mystery a few dozen pages back. :P How exciting!!!

I think you're misinterpreting. I think that what she means is that it can be treated and since the cause of it is no longer there, it will go away. It won't be something that's an ongoing, forever problem because the initial cause is gone.

Whereas, if you didn't know the intitial cause, it wouldn't matter how long you treated because it would keep coming back.

Yeah, this was how I understood it too.

Wow, very profound and very true...I really LOVE the way you put things.

Healthy people's bodies do NOT develop candida problems.

But the untreated celiac certainly can.

Especially when symptoms have progressed well past the D and 2ton nausea (e.g. ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, constant bone pain, migraines etc -

First of all...I never said anything about getting rid of candida in a day.

Neither did I. Why would u say that?

dlp252 Apprentice
I don't think that's anywhere near true, unless maybe the celiac was caught way b4 massive damage occurred.

That'd be like saying a horribly sick celiac who doesn't have candida would be fine the day after they go gluten-free!

I'm sorry, I should just stay out of it, but I think this may be what Rachel was responding to...

Sorry, I'll keep out of it, promise.

CarlaB Enthusiast

Like I said, healthy bodies don't develop candida. I don't consider an untreated celiac to be healthy. Maybe you do.

I don't really understand why you are so argumentative.

tom Contributor
So if someone is gluten-free for say 4 years and still has candida, leaky gut and food intolerance....why would it have anything to do with gluten at that point??

Sorry but NO...I was on the diet for 4 months....and apparantly even a more strict form of it then you were on...I wasnt eating most of the stuff you've posted about.

1) "gluten-free for 4 years" - did u mean on strict anti-candida for 4 yrs? Otherwise it makes zero sense. Of course the candida doesn't go away simply by going gluten-free.

In case u *did* mean strict anti-candida diet for 4 yrs, then of course either they've been cheating on the diet or something else needs to be addressed.

2) No one has ever been on a more strict anti-candida than I was on for more than a year. If anything, I OVERdid it. It's only very recently that I've added red bell pepper or the fruit-sweetened soy-based fake ice cream. Not evap cane. Not brown rice syrup.

And now - grrrrr - I'm back to not having that. Seems I've discovered that much of my continuing problem was the soy. I've been off it for a little more than a week and have been thinking much better, feeling less fatigued and far less gut pain or rumbling.

Dear Patti,

Thank you for the compliments! You are very welcome for the kind words, and deserve them! :) I try to help new members in any way I can. I know I do not want anyone to have to wear themselves out cooking and cleaning part of the day, then having to spend what little time is left on the phone with manufacturers! People with Celiac children especially do not have the time for this!

That is such wonderful news that you made it to Starbucks! We are so happy for you! Maybe I will one day soon, too! I could definitely make it to CVS for make-up. I really need it!

What exciting news! Your husband sounds like he is going to like this new position. The moving can be stressful. However, if you pace yourself, you should do fine! Have you ever tried meditation?

Dear Bev,

Slayer Spice is cool! I could be like Buffy! I have to say, Spike was cute! Another idea this name gave me is Charmed Spice, since I am a Witch. ;) I appreciate you guys knowing what Wicca really is, instead of thinking what most people do!

Farts Like Machine Gun Spice it is! How cute is that? It is fun to have these names. For Mia, we need something special, too. I like what you suggested.

Dear Mia,

How about Shalimar Spice? I think that fits you. It is pretty. I love it! You are wonderfully exotic.

Dear Rachel and Carla,

I agree that there are causes associated with why certain other conditions do not go away. There is a root for all things. The difficulty is finding it. I was on a lot of antibiotics, birth control for cysts, and steroids for asthma. Lyme still could be causing the Candida to grow out of control, though. It really is scary.

Dear Susie,

We are so glad you are here! You cannot leave. That is not allowed. You are being held captive in Rachelville. The dingos are guarding the gates. :P

Dear tom,

It really is true untreated Celiac can cause so many terrible things. I lost my gallbladder several years ago, at only twenty. That is highly unusual. So many horrible ailments can result from this condition alone. There are many diabetics in my family, as well as people with digestive problems. Cancer also has taken a lot of people's lives in our family on both sides. The list of related diseases and conditions from untreated Celiac is staggering.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Of course they can still have immune system problems....but w/out gluten in the diet...gluten cannot be the cause of those immune system problems. Celiac is caused by the immune response to gluten....nothing else.

See, this is the part that's an oversimplification. Going by exactly what it says [edit added here: the following sentence fragment is MY extrapolation of the notion presented in the paragraph quoted above ]- a celiac who even just by coincidence was gluten-free for 1 day would have no symptoms that day. We all know that's false. The problems linger and eventually taper over months once a celiac is 100% gluten-free for good.

Rachel never said anything close to this. There's no point in arguing if you're going to take things out of context.

tom Contributor

Rachel,

It was not my intent to "attack" u for your personal choices. I know it could feel that way and I apologize for that.

I wanted to present an opposing viewpoint to a specific situation. That being where someone w/ candida feels they aren't getting better while putting in a ton of effort to adhere to the diet 95% or 99% of the time.

I keep seeing posts that want to jump to bigger, even harder to solve issues when the problem may simply be that last 1%-5% of the diet (along w/ a good Dr's scrips).

Heck Rach, I bet we'd be good friends if we worked together or something.

tom Contributor

"Out of context"?!!

I quoted an entire paragraph!!

But let me say I WAS reluctant to post what I was thinking, as I was pretty sure it would be stirring up a hornet's nest.

But for an extreme example of misunderstanding or taking something out of context - I think I just got accused of calling an untreated celiac "healthy" !!

How insane is that?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

We all know that's false. The problems linger and eventually taper over months once a celiac is 100% gluten-free for good.

I dont speak of anything regarding healing chronic illness in terms of "days". I never said that a celiac would miraculously feel better in a day off of gluten.

When I was talking about candida...I was talking about people being on an anti-candida diet for years...and then eating one "snack"....and oooops....we have to start all over again.

Every Dr. I've seen who deals with patients having candida...every one of them has said the infection itself is easy to heal when there is nothing else going on with the body. It corrects itself in a matter of weeks to a few months (for severe overgrowths)....NOT years. If someone needs to treat candida for that long...then something else must be wrong.

Someone with undiagnosed Celiac is obviously ill. Someone whos been on the diet long enough to have healed....(and this can generally be checked with bloodwork, biopsies, vit deficiencies, etc)...should not have to continue struggling with candida for years and years....unless of course they choose to.

For me...it didnt make sense.

Also....my immune system is quite healthy. Its managed to do a very good job of holding back my Lyme infection while also dealing with major candida and major heavy metal issues. All the while I havent gotten sick with colds, virus, or anything else.

For this reason I dont think candida just happened to *overcome* my immune system. My immune system is not that weak. The candida is there because as the Dr.'s say.....my immune system allows for it to be there in order to protect my body from serious damage due to mercury poisoning.

The immune system is a very powerful thing...I'm not looking at only one thing here...I'm looking at the whole picture with regards to my health. My conclusion is that if other infections are under control....if my immune system is not letting anything get past...so that I dont even catch the common cold....then *why* would I suddenly get a massive explosion of candida in my body shortly after having been exposed to alot of mercury??

My immune system can deal with everything except Candida?? Something which naturally exists in the body anyways and my immune system cant handle it?? Yet it *can* deal with Lyme...a far worse and completely foreign pathogen to the human body?? I dont think so...theres more to it than that.

The immune system is complicated, chronic illness can be very complicated.....I dont know what your situation is but I'm here sharing my story...and its anything but "simple".

Everyone has different stories...no two people are alike in their illness.

From what I know about candida...it shouldnt persist for years....eating a single cookie should not "undo" a years worth of hard work....unless your body is not letting go of that infection for whatever reason.

This is a very peaceful and supportive thread. If you are here for arguements you came to the wrong place. I appreciate your input...but I wont respond to attacks.

Besides...I *thought* you said that you came here because you're not getting better.....despite your best efforts?? Am I wrong??

Plenty of people have been on anti-candida diets as strict as mine was...and as strict as yours was. You are not the only person to have went through that. Since you say that you did....and that *noone* else has been on a stricter diet...and you did this for more than a year....shouldnt you have gotten over your candida??

I think I was probably the most strict with my diet compared to all others I knew on the diet at the time (from message boards)....I did everything right but did not *overcome* the problem....nor did anyone else. So I continued to research and I moved on.

My goal is to get better.....not to see how many foods I can restrict from my diet, and not to outdo others with the strictness of my anti-candida regime. I'm focused on the bigger picture...which is to get my body to a healthy state by eliminating the toxic burden.

Rachel--24 Collaborator
I keep seeing posts that want to jump to bigger, even harder to solve issues when the problem may simply be that last 1%-5% of the diet (along w/ a good Dr's scrips).

Well...I think I gave my diet a fair enough chance....I restricted enough foods....I did enough to know that I wasnt getting anywhere near where I should be based on my efforts with diet and treatment.

If I had given up any more foods...there would have been nothing left...just the candida....which wasnt going anywhwere.

So I got diangonsed with the real issues...the stuff I knew deep down to be the real problem with my decline in health. I think everyone here has been down the road of "fighting" candida and found that they cant beat it until they do more homework on their health issues.

CarlaB Enthusiast
Well...I think I gave my diet a fair enough chance....I restricted enough foods....I did enough to know that I wasnt getting anywhere near where I should be based on my efforts with diet and treatment.

Me, too. It was more than diet, that became very apparent. Thank goodness I recognized that. I'm finally making some progress.

I didn't actually WANT it to be Lyme. I didn't want to jump to a bigger problem. In fact, I was in denial for quite a while about it being more than food intolerances. Me, the queen of tick bites ... no, I don't have Lyme. <_<

Hey, did I tell you that Morgan is a hostess at Bonefish? She's worked there for a couple weeks and NO ONE has asked for a gluten-free menu. I guess I'm the ONLY one!

Rachel,

I wasn't questioning your personal health issues or decisions. I tried to present an opposing viewpoint on the topic of lingering candida.

Apparently that makes me argumentative. Seems more like a mars/venus thing to me.

Sorry if I offended u or anyone else.

BIG NEWS

(sorry to jump in here, but I do need to share)

I hadn't even had the guts to share that my Igenex Lyme and co-infections tests were in, as of yesterday. I almost didn't want to know----scared of a positive, scared of a negative. I got the results this afternoon.

I tested POSITIVE for Babesia (my dr. had said she was sure I had it)

I tested negative for Bartonella

I tested mildly positive for two types of Erlichia, HME and HGE.

(and, I had tested Positive in January? for RMSF).

So, I have tested positive for three of the four co-infections.

The good news is my Lyme bands have decreased.

IgM 23/25 Ind and 41 Ind

IgG 41 Ind

So-------its official. This is what I have AND I have the paper to back it up. I have an appt on Monday to discuss everything.

Thank you to everyone---I am overwhelmed---laughing and crying....but it is proof that something IS wrong. I don't know what I would have done without everyone. HUGSSSSSSS

I'll be back on more later to post more about it--------but, had to share.

xoxo

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
