Oh, and as for what I eat...I also eat some stuff I shouldn't, but here's a typical day:

Breakfast: either turkey sausage (but haven't in a while cuz WF has been out of them), or turkey slices (but haven't in a couple of weeks cuz WF has been out of them) or bacon (I know, I know, but WF has been out of EVERYTHING lately)

Midmorning snack: hard boiled eggs (with a little mayo, which is not on the candida diet)

Lunch: ground beef or turkey with broccoli, sometimes half an apple if there is fruit at work

Early Dinner: beef or turkey or duck with sauteed green beans and garlic and sometimes I through slivered almonds in there too

Snack: Frozen peaches blended into a smoothie with almond or cashew butter and my evening supplements

Sometimes I have one more snack and that would be cashews, almonds or walnuts or sometimes turkey slices if WF would ever get the stupid things back in :P

Sometimes I wonder if you can molden yourself. I think it was mold from maybe the almond butter I ate late night or the left over avacado. HUM.

Ummmm...yeah....I think you molded yourself. :P

I get molded from almond butter but avocados are HEINOUS for me....I cant eat avocado at all without getting molded...LEFTOVER is like 100 x worse!!

So yeah...I'm betting on mold in this situation.

Also with the rumbling, bubbly tummy.....I only get that when I eat something that is causing problems. It very rarely happens anymore but when it does....I know for sure its from something new I've eaten or from a supplement I'm taking. For me it almost always has to do with mold.

Dont eat leftovers.....avocados must get really moldy because I've had alot of problems with them and even moreso if I saved half and ate it later on. It sucks because I LOVE avocados.

When I eat avocados....I feel sick and I lose weight. :(

I was wondering if I am to do the elimination thing should I also stop charcoal, whey protein and vitamin and mineral supplements?

Are you taking vitamins??

Vitamins made me really really sick...lots of weight loss from vitamins. It might not be the same for you but *most* people with candida and mercury toxicity dont do well with multi-vitamins.

The B vitamins contain yeast...they are derived from fungus. I dont take any vitamins....I also do horribly with Vitamin C for some reason.

I've been tested for all this stuff with BioSET and ART but so far no vitamin supplements are "safe" for me to take. My Dr. told me most people with sensitivities like mine cannot tolerate B vitamins.

I have the same problems with digestive enzymes....which are also from mold.

I wouldnt stop taking the charcoal....you need it to absorb the toxins. I would stop everything else...let your system settle down and then add in the whey protein (but not too much of it).....dont add in anything else for a few days so you can see how you're doing with the whey.

Write it all down so you can remember how you're feeling...then try adding something new and continue to write down how you feel. You'll get the hang of it and you'll start to be able to see what things are bothering you and what kind of symptoms they cause.

Sometimes it might take a couple days for symptoms to appear so thats why you wanna wait before adding anything new. One thing at a time....give it a few days to make sure if its safe for you or not.

I would mostly be concerned about things conatining mold since you have bad candida and seem to be very sensitive to the molds.

You used an emoticon ... you ARE feeling better today!!! :D

Yeah...I noticed that too!!! :D

3) It was the avocado. No doubt.

Don't even conSIDer even THINKing about a left-over avocado when there's a mold issue. Sucks, but eat it all or toss the rest.

Yup....I agree.

I posted here lots of times about eating avocados and getting sick. I was baffled for the longest time...did not know until recently that avocados were moldy!! :o

I tried to eat them for maintaining weight (and cuz they're yummy :) )...but noooo...I would always end up losing weight.....WTH??

Tom I'm sorry- call it Lyme brain but EVERY time I read SAX somehow I see an "E" instead of an "A". It makes for even funnier reading :ph34r:

LOL

Well, then, I'm obliged to tell a tale for your amusement alone.

I started w/ the SaX in 5th grade. By Jr High I was getting pretty good at SaX. I almost quit, but then got my 1st girlfriend directly due to my SaX skills. She played flute, but it was a school assembly, performing solo SaX in front of EVERYbody that piqued her interest.

Some of my fondest memories are participating in a high-school SaX quartet.

When someone couldn't make it, we'd make do w/ a SaX trio. (Ok this part wasn't true)

I suppose thru H.S. I might have been referred to as 'that SaX guy'.

Actually narrowed down my choice of colleges to 2, specifically for the opportunity to possibly be a professional SaXman. <lmao>

I could continue but I won't. I need to eat.

I don't give up the latte because, first of all, it's 240 calories I don't have to EAT, secondly, it's basically my only poor food choice. I refuse to be THAT good. :P If I stop drinking lattes, I'm starting back on martinis. ;)

:lol::lol: You know what they say about martinis, just have one because after two you'll be under the table and after three you'll be under the waiter.

Hey everyone I started my 1st thread!

Or at least 1st since aught-four.

Open Original Shared Link

It's about neurogastroenterology(sp?) and a Columbia U. Dr. and author who was strangely on The Colbert Report last night.

The show is rerun once more, either @9:30p or 8:30p on the Comedy Channel or Comedy Central - whatever it's called.

Very odd to see on a comedy show but it relates HUGELY to us!!

I will check it out, thanks.

...

Re: no appetite - been there. Far too often I was too weak to make anything and would either have almond butter or nothing. Fell asleep on the couch hungry.

....

I love almond butter and have rachelled jars of it, there were times I knew I needed to get food in me but I was repulsed at the idea of eating and had no energy to cook, I could always manage to eat a few spoonfuls.

My daily diet is lots of meat, poultry, fish - a little smoked salmon, some eggs, vegetables -greens, lots of chard and kale, onions, garlic, cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini, leeks, occasionally sweet potato, almond butter, walnuts and rinne bars which I am trying to cut back on. I also drink ginger tea, taheebo tea  and licorice tea. I've been using coconut oil more for cooking and the olive oil as a condiment. I drink plenty of spring water with lemon or lime in it, if I remember to.

Part of the stool testing I'm getting done this week includes candida testing ... so all this may change if that comes out positive.

:o

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Carla. ;)

I dont really find the stool tests to be accurate.....heck two of my stool tests were totally normal!!

Yeah... I couldnt possibly have worse fungal issues (unless maybe I was dying) and yet the stool test is normal. <_<

WTH is that??

Hmmmmm... could it be cuz all my fungus is tied up with metals??

....and a good portion of the fungus is living it up in my head.

....guess the tests could've been neg. because the "beasties" just doesnt wanna leave this nice toxic world I've created for them.

My blood antibody test showed something entirely different from my stool test.

Everything is just "stuck" inside me.

Thats why I feel alot worse w/out my charcoal...the toxins just continue to circulate. :(

No, Silly, anywhereville, USA!! I've been to Phoenix, you have these areas, too!!

Yes but I always know where the unequivocally greatest local coffee shops are - where by definition the beans are roasted on the premises.

My last 3 residences I've had them not too far. Best was just down the block. Can't say I'm positive they all decaffed w/ swiss process. Just 2 of the 3 I'd be certain of.

Starbucks is so often just a liquid candybar. (No accusation here! No idea what u drink and my god I learned my lesson)

A black coffee from starbucks usually tastes burnt. It can't be helped trying to roast darker in a mass-production environment. Too many subtleties in beans.

The hand-roasted w/ care and artistry process allows the roast-meister/artist to continually check the progress. I've seen it.

... but I can't cart all the liquid stuff with me, so that'll just have to be taken close to this other stuff.

In a similar situation I found a solution.

I'd use the little ~2oz plastic bottles I found at target near the sample-size products like shampoo or whatever.

They come empty. I was at first looking for a bottle of some innocuous something that I'd pour out.

There were 2 different types of tops, one much preferred as far as leakage prevention - so if u see something like this be sure to look. I think one type was like a flip-thing like on sunscreen maybe?

Avocados are in the 'edible' side of the ledger in, I think, every strict anti-candida diet I've ever seen.

As far as mold inside fresh produce, I remember only melons. Can't be a ripe melon w/out it.

I used to get those at least 3x a week. Talk about sugar. I had to drop the 1/2 shot of espresso I was getting and even that gave me a headache with quiting.

Lisa.......My youngest was very constipated as a baby (after we started her on solid foods), so we eliminated potatoes, rice, bananas, and things like that, and gave her lots of "stone" fruit, like peaches, pears, plums, apricots, etc. I've been told by other moms that the stone fruits worked way better than the prescription meds the doctor kept giving them. It certainly seemed to work for her!

I'll have to keep this in mind if we ever have problems with C in this family.

Good God y'all!

miamia Rookie

I have been reading along but posting less. I have been feeling bad and also jsut feeling reallly emotionally drained although thats probabally more of a reason to post becasue you guys always seem to make me feel bettter!!!

Bev-

yes everyone was right I never have an appetite. I spend most of my time tyring to eat though - so you can imagine how fun my life is (sad face)

What I do to make it easier is even though I am not hungry I still won't just eat anything I always take time preparing my food and making it taste really good so I can enjoy it as much as possible. Also definitly cooked food nothing raw and mushier food as opposed to stuff you ahve to chew alot goes down easier and is gentler on my system so that helps too.

My diet right now is defintly not condusive to the candida doet but I really don't care it is so hard for me to find food I can tolerate so whatever My body is willing to take is what I give it.

My usual day is

breakfast- Carrot juice, and these biscuits I make they are very low in carbs sort of like a cookie I use sun flower butter in them and millet flour and just a few other ingredients.

lunch- I make homemade spreads from seeds(which I roast ) vegees (pureed) and olive oil. I spread this on sprouted corn tortillas with thinly sliced cucumber.

lately I ahve tried to reintroduce almond butter so have been having that for lunch as well.

Dinner- I do best with a balance of vegees/ carbs/ and protein-

so I make pasta with fish or meat and vegees. I make a homemade pizza crust which I top with vegees and ground lamb ( no cheese), yeast free bread with smoke salmon and vegees, (well those are a few things)

\I sometimes allow myself soy ice cream but only this one brand that is not that high in sugar and has probiotics in it.

throughout the day I usualy have carrot juice, some pear juice(but only one brand -Ceres- I dillute this with water) the only ingredient is pear not citric acid or anything else like that., I have some rice milk the creaminess is settling for my stomach . Lately I am adding some coconut water too becasue it is high in postasium and a great source of electrolytes which I know I am lacking.

CarlaB Enthusiast
Does anyone have problems with lights and bright lights on the freeway at night.

Yes, it's a very typical Lyme symptom. I'm not sure what else causes it.

For a while, I couldn't even have the cordless phone plugged in at night because of the light it put off ... I was very sensitive to light. It's getting better.

My GI told me to use charcoal--but I'm scared because of how filtered water affects me

But wasn't it the coconut in the filtered water that bothered you? If so, I would think the charcoal would be okay.

If you don't want to use charcoal, what about chlorella?

Mia, good to hear from you ... sorry you're feeling crummy. I don't know how you find the motivation to prepare that food with no appetite!!! I make myself eat, but usually it's whatever's the easiest. That's why I always go to Wild Oats to buy lunch!

I'm starting back on some of my meds today. I don't think it's a good idea to just jump into all of them, so I'm starting half today, half tomorrow, then the supplements the next day. Even that may be too ambitious!

We won't even talk about how I started out the morning spilling my sample and trying to scoop it all back in the container. Trust me, herxing from the meds would only ADD to that experience.

Rachel, how did that sauna go? Did you survive????

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
