It's the wedge cut that every female in America had after she was in the 1976 Olympics. See new avatar. :P

 That picture is so-o-o-o funny!

I have naturally curly hair, which was always the bane of my existance back then. To acheive the look, I used Dippity-Do and wrapped my hair around my head at night. Worked pretty well, too

Dippity-Do!!!!!:lol::lol: now THAT is a blast from the past!!!

I wanted to BE Dorothy hamill so bad! Still do.. she's so cute and perky yet elegant!

I love the band idea and accept the position of lyricist. So we have a singer, Miss Olivia, who also plays guitar and daniel who plays guitar. So now all we need are drums (pots and pans will do) and bass. AND A NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A very clever name. :P

They could be Olivia and the Dingos!

Or Olivia and the Silly yaks

or Swinging From Chandeliers

BTW isn't the word DINGO such a fun word, and so useful for so many things? I do like to say it :lol:

 Dippity-do was a very strong, stiff gel-like goop in a jar, used to "manage" hair. I guess one of the first hair gel products. VERY stiff and crazy, I believe that hair could virtually NOT move with that stuff on. makes me laugh to think of it. :)

Um, did you all know that I can sing? and pretty well? I can sing harmony for the band, on the days when we do Bluegrass and old blues (Dinah Washington, etc.). ;)

You really don't want me to sing ... but I can play the flute. I always have to remind myself at Mass NOT to sing if there's not a flute part for a piece of music ... there's a microphone right in front of my face, singing would be a very bad idea!!

:lol:Perfect!! (sounds kind of naughty too! - I'm conjuring up a mental image of swinging dingoes!! )

Susie on backing vocals and harmonies then!

Carla on the flute! (NO SINGING PLEASE!)

I'll have to ask Daniel if he can have a go of the harmonica  - but no vocals (he can't sing for toffee either  ...will have to break it to him gently  )

I spoke to my Olivia today (niece) and she chose your name Susie Q. I told her we were naming a band after her because at 3 EVERYTHING IS ABOUT HER!

Susie you can sing? You are talented. I want Patti on tambourine. Somehow that's why I picture :P

Carla on flute, Susie and Olivia singing, Daniel on guitar, Patti on tambourine, now all we need is a bada%*& drummer and bassist.

I'll volunteer to be a stage dancer- I do lovely interpretive dance :P Almost as good as

but Angus much prefers my Open Original Shared Link

I'm also a good roadie (read Groupie). I've seen every band my husband has ever been in!

Hope everyone had a good NYE and let's get this thread back on track and laughing again. :P :P

Last night we had a toga party and my BIL showed up after putting the kids to bed in his son's dinosaur sheet. Almost peed my pants.

Today his son and Mookie, the cat, had a stand off on the changing table. They were both just sitting there staring at each other so Cooper dope slapped Mookie (Cooper is 2), Mookie dope slapped Coop back and it went on till they each slapped each other 3 times. I would have KILLED to have seen this!

JUST BECAUSE

THIS IS PRETTY FUNNY and this thread needed to be resurrected!

In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the

Earth and populated the Earth with broccoli, cauliflower and spinach, green and yellow and red vegetables of all kinds, so Man and Woman would live long and healthy lives.

Then using God's great gifts, Satan created Ben and

Jerry's Ice Cream and Krispy Creme Donuts. And Satan said, "You want chocolate with that?"

And Man said, "Yes!" and Woman said, "and as long as you're at it, add some sprinkles." And they gained 10 pounds. And Satan smiled.

And God created the healthful yogurt that Woman

might keep the figure that Man found so fair. And

Satan brought forth white flour from the wheat, and

sugar from the cane and combined them. And Woman

went from size 6 to size 14.

So God said, "Try my fresh green salad." And Satan

presented Thousand-Island Dressing, buttery croutons and garlic toast on the side. And Man and Woman unfastened their belts following the repast.

God then said, "I have sent you heart healthy

vegetables and olive oil in which to cook them." And Satan brought forth deep fried fish and chicken-fried steak so big it needed its own platter. And Man gained more weight and his

cholesterol went through the roof.

God then created a light, fluffy white cake, named

it "Angel Food Cake," and said, "It is good." Satan

then created chocolate cake and named it "Devil's

Food."

God then brought forth running shoes so that His

children might lose those extra pounds. And Satan

gave cable TV with a remote control so Man would not have to toil changing the channels. And Man and

Woman laughed and cried before the flickering blue

light and gained pounds.

Then God brought forth the potato, naturally low in

fat and brimming with nutrition. And Satan peeled

off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy center into chips and deep-fried them. And Man gained more pounds.

God then gave lean beef so that Man might consume

fewer calories and still satisfy his appetite. And

Satan created McDonald's and its 99-cent double

cheeseburger. Then said, "You want fries with that?" And Man replied, "Yes! And super size them!" And Satan said, "It's all good." And Man went into cardiac arrest.

God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery.

Then Satan created HMOs. :P :P :P :P

ha ha ha ha, I KNOW how funny that is because I sent it to you (and Lynne sent it to me)

@NanceK, I do have Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction to Sulfa drugs, a sulfa allergy.  Benfotiamine and other forms of Thiamine do not bother me at all.  There's sulfur in all kinds of Thiamine, yet our bodies must have it as an essential nutrient to make life sustaining enzymes.  The sulfur in thiamine is in a ring which does not trigger sulfa allergy like sulfites in a chain found in pharmaceuticals.  Doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition (nor chemistry in this case).  I studied Nutrition before earning a degree in Microbiology.  I wanted to know what vitamins were doing inside the body.   Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Not feeling well after starting Benfotiamine is normal.  It's called the "thiamine paradox" and is equivalent to an engine backfiring if it's not been cranked up for a while.  Mine went away in about three days.  I took a B Complex, magnesium and added molybdenum for a few weeks. It's important to add a B Complex with all eight essential B vitamins. Supplementing just one B vitamin can cause lows in some of the others and result in feeling worse, too.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption of all the B vitamins, not just thiamine.  You need all eight.  Thiamine forms including Benfotiamine interact with each of the other B vitamins in some way.  It's important to add a magnesium glycinate or chelate supplement as well.  Forms of Thiamine including Benfotiamine need magnesium to make those life sustaining enzymes.  (Don't use magnesium oxide.  It's not absorbed well.  It pulls water into the intestines and is used to relieve constipation.)   Molybdenum is a trace mineral that helps the body utilize forms of Thiamine.   Molybdenum supplements are available over the counter.  It's not unusual to be low in molybdenum if low in thiamine.   I do hope you will add the necessary supplements and try Benfotiamine again. Your goal is not to be a good puppet, there is no gain in that. You might want to restart the ones that helped.  It sounds more like you are suffering from malnutrition.  Gluten free foods are not fortified with things like Thiamine (B1), vitamin D, Iodine, B1,2,3,5,6 and 12 as non-gluten free products are required to be. There is a Catch-22 here.  Malnutrition can cause SIBO, and SIBO can worsen malnutrition. Another possibility is side effects from any medication that are taking.  I was on Metformin 3 months before it turned me into a zombi.  I had crippling side effects from most of the BP meds tried on me, and Losartan has many of the side effects on me from my pre gluten free days. Because you have been gluten free, you can test and talk until you are blue in the face but all of your tests will be negative.  Without gluten, you will not create the antigen against gluten, no antigens to gluten, so no small intestine damage from the antigens.  You will need to do a gluten challange to test positive if you need an official diagnosis, and even then, no guaranty: 10 g of gluten per day for 6 weeks! Then a full panel of Celiac tests and biopsy. At a minimum consider vitamin D, Liquid Iodine (unless you have dermatitis herpetiformis and iodine exasperates the rash), and Liquid Geritol. Push for vitamin D testing and a consult with a nutritionist experienced with Celiack Disease.  Most blood tests don't indicate nutritional deficiencies.  Your thyroid tests can be perfect, yet not indicate iodine deficiency for example.  Thiamine   test fine, but not pick up on beriberi.  Vegans are often B12 deficient because meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy are the primary souces of B12. Here is what I take daily.  10,000 IU vitamin D3 750 mg g a b a [   ] 200 mg CoQ10 [   ] 100 mg DHEA [   ] 250 mg thiamine B1 [   ] 100 mg of B2 [   ] 500 mg B5 pantothenic acid [   ] 100 mg B6 [   ] 1000 micrograms B12 n [   ] 500 mg vitamin c [   ] 500 mg taurine [   ] 200 mg selenium

Hi…Just a note that if you have an allergy to sulfa it’s best not to take Benfotiamine. I bought a bottle and tried one without looking into it first and didn’t feel well.  I checked with my pharmacist and he said not to take it with a known sulfa allergy. I was really bummed because I thought it would help my energy level, but I was thankful I was given this info before taking more of it.

Hello @Scatterbrain, Are you getting enough vitamins and minerals.  Gluten free food is not fortified so you may be starting to run low on B vitamins and vitamin D.   By the way you should get your mom checked for celiac disease.  You got it from your mom or dad.  Some studies show that following a gluten-free diet can stabilize or improve symptoms of dementia.  I know that for the 63 years I was eating gluten I got dumber and dumber until I started GFD and vitamin replenishment and it began to reverse.  Thiamine can get used up in a week or two.  Symptoms can come and go with daily diet.  Symptoms of beriberi due to Thiamine deficiency.   Difficulty walking. Loss of feeling (sensation) in hands and feet. Loss of muscle function or paralysis of the lower legs. Mental confusion. Pain. Speech difficulties. Strange eye movements (nystagmus) Tingling. Any change in medications? Last March I had corotid artery surgery (90 % blockage), and I started taking Losartan for blood pressure, added to the Clonidine I was taking already.  I was not recovering well and many of my pre gluten free symptoms were back  I was getting worse.  At first I thought it was caused a reaction to the anesthesia from the surgery, but that should have improved after two weeks.  Doctor thought I was just being a wimp. After three months I talked to my doctor about a break from the Losartan to see if it was causing it. It had not made any difference in my bp.  Except for clonindine, all of the previous bp meds tried had not worked to lower bp and had crippling side effects. One, I could not stand up straight; one wobbly knees, another spayed feet.  Inguinal hernia from the Lisinopril cough.  Had I contiued on those, I was destined for a wheelchair or walker. She said the symptoms were not from Losartan so I continued taking it.  Two weeks later I did not have the strength in hips and thighs to get up from sitting on the floor (Help, I can't get up😨).  I stopped AMA (not recommended).  Without the Losartan, a) bp did not change, after the 72 hour withdrawal from Losartanon, on clonidine only and b) symptoms started going away.  Improvement started in 72 hours.  After six weeks they were gone and I am getting better.

Hopefully the food she eats away from home, especially at school, is 100% gluten-free. If you haven't checked in with the school directly about this, it might be worth a planned visit with their staff to make sure her food is safe.
