BTW, how are everyone's pets?

The only blue pill I'd suggest giving the yeti is an Ambien CR!!!

My pets are good. :) The birds are enjoying their newly renovated room off the kitchen! I didn't talk about this little room, but since it's open to the kitchen and is the entrance (a mud room), we went ahead and tiled it, too. We also took a couple ugly closets out of it and put in another window for the birds.

The birds are loving their room! They even said hello to the contractor this morning when he came over. :) They're doing great, very happy.

    The ball was thrown in the house!

Right! And "no one" was the kid who did it!

Speaking of christmas trees and UP .. . . .. .across the street someone did something I'd heard of but never seen. <giggle giggle> There are some sort of newly-built fancypants lofts w/ floor-to-ceiling windows & I'm looking at an upside-down christmas tree hung from the ceiling!!!:lol::D

:o Oh my gawwwwd, I have heard of this trendy trend- and can I say I just don't quite get this one!!!

:o dear gawd, what have we done? A bilious, jaundiced yeti?

only ONE song - called When He Returns - makes me cry, almost.

off to bed. I'm too cold, have to crawl under me warm covers.

but, um, yeah, I really don't get the upside-down Christmas tree thingy.

<beep!beep!beep!> Hey! Back up the candida caboose!

I saw a couple "Ifs" up there!!

OUR big fella's healthy as a very healthy horse!

So let's just un-hypotheticate the unhealthiness pronto!!

For all we know he just isn't fond of train travel and it scared the wee out of 'im, discolo(ack I can't do the U!!)ring his pallid paletted pelt. :o:blink:

(If, in fact, there ever even WAS an off hue - perhaps it's simply rumoUr(fine! Ya happy NOW?!) borne of a glimpse under an amber shade-disguising streetlamp?)

I believe our Yeti remains 100% healthy.

Maybe he was just overly hungry?

LET THE YETI FEED!!!! :D

P.S. Oooooooh the samtsirhC eert (that's the upside-down one) guy's neighbor's tree just lit up! But .. .eh. . . .it's intermittent on/off. Not blinking, but I don't like it.

The samtsirhC eert on the ceiling has a whimsical quality I like. He/she/they better not have KIDS and do that tho!

And I'm sure I'd never do it, but it does, oh yes it does, make me smile. :) :) :)

He is wearing an old flannel shirt of Mark's--it's pretty cold and windy here today.

I knew Mark would find him something to wear

Nikki--if you want him, we can get him to the airport. ;)

Sorry, but I've done my stint of 'Yeti sitting' ...besides - it's not fair to the big fella to have endure another trans- atlantic flight (he duffers terribly from jet lag  )

Tom, Susie and Bev have offered - but I think maybe Bev is the nearest to you

They did testing, including an x-ray, and he has a pretty bad case of arthritis in his back. It was obvious even to us when we saw the x-ray.

Poor Allo <_< ......kitty wee <_<

I am quite fond of polenta. However, having trouble wrapping my dingo-brain around polenta with plums. What kind of plums? REal plums, off a tree? or canned plums, that you mash up? Do plums come in cans, in the US? has anyone ever seen that? In my life there has never been a plum desert.

Never before a plum dessert Susie??? How tragic :(

Fresh plums m'dear (do you not have them in the US?? )

Open Original Shared Link is the recipe for those brave enough - but I think you could substitute plums for apples possibly

Okay, listen, guys...I've measured his inseam twice. Believe me, we do not want that beast ingesting ANY little blue pills... :o

:o Perish the thought!!!

2 versions of Ave Maria (Charlotte Church & Jewel)

Well now Ptaum, would never of thought you'd like Charlotte Church - but a beautiful version :)

Only Dylan would come up with a line like that...if it's a recent song (the last fifteen years or so), he could quite possibly have been writing about me.

Gad, it seems so long ago.....The Blues Festival in Ottawa, I brought a group of my students for an "English in Real-life" field trip...we were right up front, and I scrambled onto a big metal tub to get a better view. Yes, perhaps it was vaguely horse-like in shape...The Japanese Ambassador was with us, and was quite fixated with cats of the Orient...yes, yes, he brought one of his kittens! On his shoulder...hmm, yes, perhaps he perched it there as he cheered and applauded. Dylan kept glancing over with an expression I couldn't read....

Geez...whaddya know?

Okay...had to put these into THREE separate posts, as I keep getting this "number of quotes does not equal actual quotations" message....gah! Thought I had this multiple-post thing down. Ah, well...gets me closer to 2000...but do I want this?...

Oooooooh the samtsirhC eert (that's the upside-down one)

SamtsirhC eert! Brilliant work, Tom! That is NOT Seuss-ian. It's quite...Celtic, perhaps? All of those consonants clustering...perhaps Middle Eastern? Hmmmm...

Plum Polenta Pie....sounds so very English! :)

That must have been a little British kid who stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum.

A MUD ROOM!!! Had one growing up in suburban Chicago, but as far as I know the concept doesn't even exist in most of CA. Or Arizona. (Maybe it'd be a Dust Room in the desert)

Alaskans have a more extreme version they call an Arctic Room, where the 2nd door is as sturdy & weatherproofed as the 1st, as if they anticipate that little room having snowdrifts maybe.

Now I'm a bit mystified. We DO have miles of piles of delicious fresh plums whenever the season is for for them. <mmmmmmm soooooooo juicy!!> Yet I never hear of them used as an ingredient in cakes, pies, tarts, turnovers etc.

(Isn't plum pudding part of some Christmas literature of some sort?)

My theory is that 'plum baking' was compounded to plumbaking, which was contracted to plumb'ing, then some lazy bakers began omitting the apostrophe (why does that word have such similarity to 'catastrophe'?).

Somehow the general public has developed an aversion to consuming the end product of plumbing. :blech:

Since Dylan's on my mind, a slightly mumbled (w/ mis-applied accenture) "a glass trophy" might work, as well.

'Last troll fee'? (You know .. . .after all the trolls entering the theatre for a Shrek matinee do the over-the-shoulder thumb-point behind them to signify that the holder of their ticket is in line behind them):D

Well, this is an old bungalow .... the mud room used to be a porch and somewhere along the lines someone closed it in. We fixed it so it now looks like the interior of the rest of the house ... matched the window moldings, trim, etc. It's the room you enter the house from the driveway .... we live on a corner .... everyone uses this door.

Technically, since we live in the city, we don't need a "mud" room, but that's the lingo. I would imagine in CA you can't spare the space. Our house is most likely substantially bigger than the average house out there. ;) Out there, this room would probably be a bedroom!

Just got this in an email...my funny for the day

Little Johnny was 7 years old and like other boys

his age rather

curious.

He had been hearing quite a bit about 'making out'

from the older boys, and he wondered what it was and

how it was done.

One day he took his question to his mother, who

became rather flustered. Instead of explaining

things to Johnny, she told him to hide behind the

curtains one night and watch his older sister and

her boyfriend.

This he did. The following morning, Johnny described

EVERYTHING to his mother.

"Sis and her boyfriend sat and talked for a while,

then he turned off most of the lights. Then he

started kissing and hugging her. I figured 'Sis must

be getting sick, because her face started looking

funny.

He must have thought so too, because he put his hand

inside her blouse to feel her heart, just the way

the doctor would. Except he's not as smart as the

doctor because he seemed to have trouble finding

her heart. I guess he was getting sick too, because

pretty soon both of them started panting and getting

all out of breath.

His other hand must have been cold because he put it

under her skirt.

About this time 'Sis got worse and began to moan and

sigh and squirm around and slide down toward the end

of the couch. This was when her fever started. I

knew it was a fever, because Sis told him she felt

really hot.

Finally, I found out what was making them so

sick......-a big eel ;had gotten inside his pants

somehow. It just jumped out of his pants and stood

there, about 10 inches long, honest, anyway he

grabbed it in one hand to keep it from getting away.

When Sis saw it, she got really scared-her eyes got

big, and her mouth fell open, and she started

calling out to God and stuff like that. She said it

was the biggest one she's ever seen; I should tell

her about the ones down at the lake by our house!

Anyway, Sis got brave and tried to kill the eel by

biting its head off. All of a sudden she grabbed it

with both hands and held it tight while he took a

muzzle out of his pocket and slipped it over the

eel's head to keep it from biting again.

Sis lay back and spread her legs so she could get a

scissor-lock on it and he helped by lying on top of

the eel. The eel put up a hell of a fight.

Sis started groaning and squealing and her boyfriend

almost upset the couch. I guess they wanted to kill

the eel by squashing it between them.

After a while they both quit moving and gave a great

sigh. Her boyfriend got up, and sure enough, they

killed the eel. I knew because it just hung there,

limp, and some of its insides were hanging out.

Sis and her boyfriend were a little tired from the

battle, but they went back to courting anyway. He

started hugging and kissing her again. By golly, the

eel wasn't dead! It jumped straight up and started

to fight again.

I guess eels are like cats- they have nine lives or

something. This time, Sis jumped up and tried to

kill it by sitting on it. After about a 35 minute

struggle, they finally killed the eel. I knew it was

dead, because I saw Sis's boyfriend peel its skin

off and flush it down the toilet.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
