"Umm sweetie, you do know where the grocery store eggs come from, right?"

"Yeah I know, but that's different."

CHICKEN BUTT COOTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    oh now THAT was a good 'un!

:o

OMG! That can be the name of our stand-in band, when the BadAss Snow Poodles are on holiday.

In a panic, my boyfriend exclaimed "There's No Fence!!!" We both looked at him and said "What?" And he said "There's No Fence and They're headed Right At Us!!!" Uncle and I started laughing as those cows stampeded towards us at a snails pace. And then the (EX) boyfriend hid behind me!

City boys! Bah!

Um, I feel it would help my mojo tremendously if I had some grandparents who were really lovely and kind and they had a FARM where I could spend my summers and holidays.

Yes! that's it! Can I borrow someone's?

:P

Oh Patti---any winter weather at your house? Nothing here, nothing ever happened.....My mom and Dad have a few inches of snow though...in Scranton (north of Scranton)

We woke up to a dusting of snow. It's very cold, though and the roads are still slick.

You guys lucked out! :P

You could borrow mine, but all of mine have passed on . . . my story about the exboyfriend was over 20 years ago . . . amazing, huh, since I'm only 28 . . . 32 . . .?

All right, we'll let that yeti lead....

I've memorized his inseam measurement, for gawd's sake...sent that off to BIL...I'm estimating his chest to be.....what...fifty inches? sixty?...I don't wanna measure it!!! Give me a good estimate. His waist? About twice my husband's, so...64 inches? Three times Gus's....? Man...How about his feet....they have regulation booties that must be worn over rough terrain and frozen lakes. Would he be a size 12? 14?....

Another bit of regulation info: Will he be running primarily on two legs or four? If he spends more than three beats per minute on two legs, he will be disqualified as being too humanoid. Getting very complicated.... :o:huh:

Is the Yeti excited?

So tonight is a rather cold and rainy dreary night? Anyone want to send some warmer weather towards my house?

Yes!!

And I think my 2nd fave is their pseudo-cover of that Nancy Sinatra hit, also recently cover by Jessica Simpson. What the heck was it called?

Anyway, I DO remember the Chicken Butt Cooties renamed it "These Eggs Weren't Laid For Lickin' ".

I thought our Yeti was much bigger and better proportioned than THAT! 1st guess is maybe 80" waist and 110" chest.

But Yeti, close relative to BIGFOOT w/ a dainty size12 boot???!!!

Sheesh girrrrrrrrl I'M a 13!!!!!

Shaquille O'Neal is a 22. So I'll guess 28-30 for the Yeti. :P

Uh-oh!

Another complication . .. . . ..hmmmm .. . .not sure how to say this. Perhaps something was lost in translation, but according to Angus' blog, the Yeti's been under the impression he's to RIDE in the sled!!!!!

I KNOWWWW!!!! I have no idea how this could happen either!

There was one somewhat confusing bit about Angus tiring of hearing a denigrating tone accompany the phrase "four-legged beast". Can't say for sure, but my take is that Yeti considers himself above anything not bipedal. Go figure.

But . .. . .like I say .. ..I may be reading it ALL wrong. :)

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! We were working on that, sort of, in Rachelville, but got kicked out of town. the Mad House Resort sounds like the perfect solution.

the Chicken Butt Cooties are also doing a cover of (of course) Ain't Nobody Here Butt (ha) Us Chickens............ AND the Kenny Rogers hit - was it Don't Take your Love to Town? Theirs will be, of course, Don't Make Your Eggs too Brown.

See, the BadAss Snow Poodles are really busy during I Did Her Rod season........

:o

MYGod, I had the worst, most hellish day imaginable.....................started at 10-ish, when I tried on what I felt was SURE to be the proper funeral outfit. Um, it SO was not. Panic. See, I've gained nearly 25 pounds in the last two years, and bought tons of new jeans and shirts and sweaters and stuff, but NOTHING of a formal/dressy nature. So.....NOTHING fit. Well, the skirt fit, but it was just.........wrong...and the sweater I had planned to wear.......TOTALLY wrong.

So I dash over to Gail's (dingos in tow), who has a house full of what I thought would be suitable clothing. Borrowed a couple of coats/jackets etc. Stopped at three stores (with dingos in car). Mad crowds. Was looking for suitable skirt and/or pants........and did I say AFFORDABLE???? Went to Banana Republic - many GORGEOUS things but not on the sale rack - that fit. DAshed dingos back home. Then hit about.........eight more stores, all over town.

I am positively ragged.......but have black pants AND a skirt that fit and are lovely. And some suitable top parts. Half of these things will go back after I make a game-day decision about what to wear.

SHOPPING!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!! HEINOUS!!!!!!!!!!

There is SO MUCH CRAP clothing when you have to go to Marshall's, TJMaxx, etc. argh. Also did go to some posh stores but no good sales.

Oh, also hadn't eaten since 9 a.m.. Just ate and it's 8:00.

Dingy is ragged, must figure out outfit and go to bed. Dear gawd, I think Jenn is emailing me the eulogy later and I am to edit that.

That should be interesting.

that's excellent. This is clearly FROM WHENCE you get your wackiness (note proper prepositional placement, even whilst hypoglycemic and mad from dashing about all day).

I forgot to mention, the funeral is at the most uncivilized hour of 10 a.m. Then, graveside burial (will take forEVER), then back to the church for a lunch I cannot eat........good gawd.

guess I"ll pack food?

Luuuuuuuv the video for "Bawk Like an Egyptian"

Kinda sappy for me, but that ode to fowl's flatulence, "Wind Beneath My Wings" keeps coming to mind.

Oh!! An old chestnut from the 70s! Remember that scare about breasts from aged chickens being carcinogenic?

The ribbon-for-this ribbon-for-that biz hadn't yet taken off, but I think "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Poultry" had a part in popularizing the practice.

I'm jumping in a little late on this thread, but....

Everything turned out really good except the gravy. I've NEVER been able to make gravy at all, so the fact that it actually turned out edible made me happy, but it was definitely weird.

I thickened with cornstarch, but it just didn't want to thicken, so I added more... and more... and more... It finally thickened, and tasted fine at dinner. But the next day when I got out the leftovers, it was like gravy jello. I thought, well it'll melt when I heat it up, BUT IT DIDN'T! It became hot gravy jello. Gross. So no leftover gravy...

HeeHeeHee - Found this on another thread. I brought it over so we could all snicker at Sarah's Hot Gravy Jello.:lol: They might think I'm rude and report me on the other thread but there is no such thing as being rude on this one . . . mmmm, gravy jello (insert Homer Simpson drooling emoticon here) . . . OK, I'll make both the jello and the gravy when we get to the commune!

No coincidence. Recent revisions to gluten challenge guidelines call for the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten (about the amount in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of 3 weeks. If possible, I would extend that two weeks to ensure valid testing.
    • SilkieFairy
Thank you both for the replies. I decided to bring back gluten so I can do the blood test. Today is Day #2 of the Challenge. Yesterday I had about 3 slices of whole wheat bread and I woke up with urgent diarrhea this morning. It was orange, sandy and had the distinctive smell that I did not have when I was briefly gluten free. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but the brain fog is back and I feel very tired.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
