Did anybody else think . . . Of course Emily has someone's ashes in her closet . . . almost expected!!!!!

Gawd, I realize that this does not sound like it could possibly be true...old Aunt Rosie's ashes in our closet. But alas, it is. Hmmmm....although perhaps I give off the impression of being one who would have this kind of thing happening in my household. Gaaaaaadddd....

This summer! I've put my foot down! DH procrastinated about it all last year, didn't know where to put her, and it's illegal to just toss her, computer-like, out a car or house window. So she's going this summer!...Dunno where.... <_<

solipsism: a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing; also : extreme egocentrism

my new faaaaaaaaaaaavorite word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Heyy!! I've given Susie her new favorite word! :D I love the way it sounds...comes trippingly off the tongue. Really love the adjective..."That memoir is sooooo solipsistic".....

I have decided that I'm just going to use Emily's quote and not even try to come up with my own sentence . . . I had to go to dictionary.com to check the pronunciation . . . I don't want to sound like I don't know what I'm talking about!!!:lol:

:lol::lol::lol:

OMG...but Janet, I haven't read the book...are you sure it is, in fact, solipsistic? I can just hear it now. One of your club members: "Uh, Janet....this book is not at all centred on the self. No navel-gazing, here. Are you just using large, sophisticated words to intimidate or simply impress us? Huh? Huh?" ;)

absolute GLEE in Dingoland over this, yes!!!!!!!!!! Um, I think that is the FIRST word I've had to look up on this thread.....

My....it's not THAT special a word.......is it?

OMG sillies.........the most miserable abdominal pain today......gluten-poop.......but the pain is getting WORSE as the day goes in instead of better, and I am to go out tonight. Might have been the tostadas at Taco Bell last night.......usually quite safe and no problems....

YES, she absolutely CAN. Legally, no. But who cares? Not planning on having any cops over for the burial. DH seems to have a problem with this...feels that she'll be pooped on and dug up by Gus and the cats (so what? She's rubble! Not like they're gonna dig up her face, or somefin').....And he seems to think it quite acceptable to leave her in with his oxfords and smelly runners...go figger.

Poor old Rose...DH's only aunt. She was a very English character....never married, no kids. Quite a loner, and quite eccentric...and her favorite relative was Will. Hence, the ashes were taken by us because no one else knew what to do with them. Well, neither do we. So, she'll go under our big chestnut tree out back.

Hey! Why don't we bury her with Nick the budgie, come spring in our schoolyard? I wonder if she'd like this... <_<

I think that it might actually be legal to spread ashes in Ontario as long as it's not in a public waterway. So the Rideau Canal is out but beyond that she can go wherever you want! :P (um . . . that may have been an inappropriate emoticon for the subject at hand  )

Colin was up to playing a few low key Wii games today -- it totally wore him out but he was bordering on jovial at times! My dad gave me some roses from him and Colin for an early valentine's gift today  and he made us a glorious gluten-free stir fry. It was lovely!

this strikes fear into Susie. I have no heirs......and now I am wondering if I'll spend eternity in such an equally ignoble manner, just sitting in some squalid closet of one of my nieces......

Did you really say that with a straight face and believe it?:lol::lol: TB is my worst nightmare, gluten-wise. I think I get glutened driving by that place.

I've just been reading along, wanting to jump in several times, but not feeling particularly silly lately...

Susie, I  the picture of Annie in your avatar, such a super model that one.

Something's Gotta Give is one of my top faves too, Jack Nicholson is so hysterical, and the scene in the hospital with his hospital gown on (and the backside shot), OMG that kills me!:lol:

Janet, have fun with your Book Club, hope the cake turned out ok :)

Nikki, you must give me some insight, why do people HATE Heather Mills with such a passion over there?

Well.......I wouldn't say our closet is exactly....squalid, now.

Actually, I'm feeling quite guilty about it all since we've been speaking about it. I'm looking around the house, trying to spot a place we could put this urn. Doesn't go with anything...

Okay. I will assuage my guilt by cleaning up our closet. Very good.

I like Heather Mills. I loved her on Dancing with the Stars last year. Is it because she is divorcing Paul?

I guess so

I like her too, she was lovely on DWTS and over the years I have seen her on Larry King talking about the different causes that she supports (land mines, saving the baby seals, animal rights, etc), she seemed/seems to be a genuine person.

Patti, good decision! I am sure you are relieved to have made it so all can get back to normal in your kitchen :D

Emily, this makes me sound like an idiot, but what exactly is the Yukon race your SIL is in??

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Is the Yukon race a dog-sledding thing?

Morning Sillies!!!! Happy Valentines Day to all my loves.

Good Morrrrrnin' Sillies!

Well, methinks we may lose an inch or two of this heinous snow today...bright sun and above zero. Fingers crossed.....

Tom--it's the nice flat topped kind :)

That's exactly my stove, Patti. It's been great. All of your cookware has to be completely flat on the bottom, however, or they will heat unevenly and will wobble back and forth quite maddenly. Dunno if I've come up with any culinary masterpieces using it, but this surely has more to do with ME than the stove itself. <_<

OMG.........

I did not want to mention my take on Ms. Mills, but I just cannot help myself at this point.....gaaaaaahhhhhhhh.....misinformed, combative, immature, at times imbecilic....

(catching breath).... We are not to dally in political fodder here, so I shan't elaborate, I'll just say that she made an absolute FOOL of herself on Larry King and everywhere else in the press, where Premier Danny Williams tore her to shreds over every fact she falsified and butchered. Boy, did they need to do their homework before taking on the seal hunt. She and Paul were right out of their league....

Pardon me!! Back to silliness:

Emily, this makes me sound like an idiot, but what exactly is the Yukon race your SIL is in??

Oh!! SO exciting!! This is the longest, most gruelling race in the world...makes the Iditerod look like a stroll in the park. Year-'round training, millions of dollars in corporate sponsorships, and big money for crossing the line first. Very few women have attempted this Sisyphean feat, and I believe Michelle was the first woman to crack the top ten, last year. She did it in thirteen days.....that's in 21 hours of darkness, -40, over mountain passes and across frozen lakes, with just her and her soul mates--her fourteen beautiful huskies. Unimaginable!

I'd go with a vodka tonic, but that's just me😉

That and my nutritionist also said that drinking cider is one of the worst drink choices for me, given that I have candida overgrowth.  She said the combination of the alcohol and sugar would be very likely to worsen my candida problem.  She suggested that if I drink, I go for clear vodka, either neat or with a splash of cranberry.   So in summary, I am giving ciders a rest.  Whether it's a gluten risk or sugars and yeast overgrowth, its just not worth it.

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.
