Hey!

Back at the library...now I'm with my DD, who has been experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms since coming home from school to an internet-free household. I broke the news to her as she walked through the front door..."Now, sit down, hon.....I need to tell you something..." Her eyes bulged, slight tremors began down her arms....So I threw her over my shoulder into the fireman's carry and tossed her into the car. Here I am again.

What life must be like for a young teenager who can only--gasp--use a telephone to communicate with their friends, and can use only--bigger gasp--BOOKS, actual BOOKS where you have to TURN PAGES, for homework.

I dunno if DD will make it through the night...... <_<

.. . . .bleh . . .. ..

:(:(

I think this is what I get for being reckless "testing" chocolate & cookies. :(

No physical symptoms, just mental.

Bah, Ptaum! :( Do you have these episodes often? Sounds very like PMS, methinks...

It's a travesty, I tell ya! :o

All right....why am I the only one who has telephone line problems here? Wasn't it just yesterday that I found myself here at the public library computers, checking my emails and this forum? I think it's the fourth time this year we've had to call the wondrous cartel Bell Canada, and have them come to repair our outside phone line. GRRRRRRRRR........:angry:

Ack, don't even get me started on Bell Canada. Both my very calm father and very sweet fiance have come very close to yelling and swearing at the Bell people on the phone whenever we've had a problem with phone/internet/Satellite. Have you ever noticed that when you sign up for a Bell service you talk to a very kind, helpful, clearly native speaker of English, but when you need to call for help once you've already signed up you get someone much more difficult to understand and who may not really be understanding you either. Sooooo annoying!

Emily, here's a cartoon in honoUr of Sophie getting her braces off and soon getting a retainer.

Bell Canada can be a royal pain in the @$$ at times. There were some problems where we live with wet underground cables last year, and they dug up our front lawn not once but twice. And I don't mean small excavations. The holes were about six feet square and five feet deep. Their contractor digs the hole, then Bell comes and does their work, and then, eventually, the contractor comes back and fills it in and lays new sod. And then for the next two weeks WE have to water the new sod daily. There was an open pit of theirs across from us for a couple of months, covering a period from before the first dig in our yard until well after the second one was filled in. :(

Gosh, Emily, what if somebody is looking over your shoulder? What will a stranger think of the stuff we see here?

Gee, when I was 14, the telephone was wired to the wall and had a rotary dial. We had just acquired a new TV and it had COLOuR!

I still remember the night we got our first color TV  I was 11. A table phone and an extention phone--if you wanted privacy, you had to go talk in my parent's bedroom.

3:30AM Jess!!!! <oh .. . NOT on purpose> :(

In most communities, this would be a Hot Topic until resolution. In Sillyville, . . . .. ..hey where'd our Yeti go? .. . . .what was I talking about?

I often find myself saying this about DH when people ask about our plans for the weekend....:lol:

I tried, I really did, to come up w/ something last night for this "keep him naked as much as possible" setup - way to pick up the ball & run w/ it Em!!

A fantastic show. I try not to miss it, and I guffaw throughout. Ptaum, you must try to find Corner Gas in your TV lineup, or online. Funnier and more clever, even, than MNIE.

OK trying Title Search on cablebox .. . ..bah nothin .. . .online will have to wait. I didn't get far on desk de-cluttering.

FACE THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

And you know, no one EVER expects them

I think I turn into a pumpkin from midnight to 7 am. By 8 I'm a tolerable zucchini and by 9 I'm pretty much your average Bev. :P

Nuh-uh!! You're BevMo'!!!! :D;)

I used to watch World News Now a TON!!

A few times lately .. ..I wonder how often they switch hosts. Maybe it was a result of near-daily viewing, but I liked the ones 6-8 yrs ago better. Or was it 10 yrs ago

<cracks me up, you can just google "cat poo coffee" and all these things come up >

TOM!!!!!!!!! I think our resident java conn-o-sewer should try it!!!!!!!!!!!

I passed on it in the 90s in Indonesia, and I'm not sure I could ever get past the Civet Butt Cooties aspect.

It really puts the sewer in conn-o-sewer . .. . . <mesuspect susie go foe-neddik cuz forgot how to spell connoisseur>

And they drank the cat poop coffee

:huh::lol:

No, he won't, because he has a hyper-vigilant mother who keeps and eye out, plus all kinds of smart pholks on this forum. :) You WILL get to bottom of it!

 I hope you're right.

Well... if this don't beat all... The boys and I were in the city this afternoon shopping and got in a car accident- yes-we're-all-fine! Actually, my big old beat-up Blazer only got a little dent. The other car (a little new-model VW bug) came out of it quite a bit worse. Picture a paper mache car that somebody punched.

This chick turned right on red. She would've been fine if she'd stayed in her lane (I was in the far left lane,) but she was busy looking in the rearview to see if her friends had followed her out, and smashed right into us-- right into Luke's door. If she'd been in a tougher car, we'd be at the hospital right now.   And some more

Then, if you can believe it, she was SO busy not watching the road she never saw me at ALL, and insisted that *I* must have hit HER. Excuse me? And her friends pulled over, and instantly backed her up. I'd never been so furious in my entire life. Out of the dozens of cars that saw what happened, NO ONE else pulled over as a witness except her friends. And btw, these were middle-aged ladies, not teenagers afraid that their daddy was going to mad.

I get out of the car, phone in hand, and one of her friends squawks, "You hit her, you hit her, were you talking on your cell phone?" OMG you guys. When she said that, I was APPALLED, and absolutely purple with rage, but I stayed calm. You'd be proud. I said, "No Ma'am, I just called my husband because I'm shaking like a leaf and I have my two SMALL CHILDREN in the car." And back and forth, etc...

Anyway, anyway, the cops said they couldn't tell whose fault it was and we'd have to let the insurance companies fight it out. My car has such a small dent, and it's such an old beat up vehicle, I don't want to actually file a claim and pay a deductible to fix the dent. It would be silly.

But I guess I'm going to have to talk to my agent anyways, because that dumb you-know-what and her liar friends are going to say I somehow hit her. I am massively stressed out. I really don't need our insurance rate to go up. I'm hoping it won't- I have an excellent driving record. In fact, our insurance company has reduced our rate every six months since we signed on with them years and years ago. And since the cops couldn't form a decision on whose fault it was, nobody got a ticket, and no one was faulted on the police report.

Ugh. :( HEINOUS, I tell you.

It just eats me up the way people will just jump right out LYING like that. It stuns me. I once got into a fender-bender when I was 18 (the only wreck until now,) and that one was my fault. I admitted it immediately. And I WAS afraid my dad was going to be mad. I just don't get people, I really don't.

Anyhoo, like I said we are ok. Ezra has a brush-burn on his neck from the seatbelt locking up. That does worry me. How hard did his neck hit that seatbelt? I guess we'll find out tomorrow morning. I asked him if it hurt, and he said, "Oh yeah it hurts really, reeeeeeeeeally bad." But he doesn't act or move like it does. Since he recently figured out the I-don't-feel-good-so-I-can't-clean-my-room thing, I take what he says with a grain of salt.

But I'm worried about it. Usually, just riding along, the seatbelt doesn't go across his neck. I have both the boys in booster seats specifically because of that. I have him some ibuprofen though. Besides, he still feels like crap from the Strep and ear infection. :(

My neck hurt earlier, but feels better now. It probably was just muscle tension or something. I have to admit, it scared the crap out of me. She slammed us pretty freakin' hard. Thank God, Thank God, Thank God she wasn't driving a Suburban or something.

Welp, now that's I've written you guys a 50-page update... I've had a couple glasses of wine tonight. My nerves are SHOT.

And I didn't get ANY of my shopping done. Brian stopped at a gas station and got toilet paper, though, which was the most pressing need.

Ridgewalker Contributor

Saying that I hit her is like saying to someone you just shot, "Hey! You just hit my bullet!"

Just make sure you and the boys take it easy :)

I had my car written off when my eldest was a baby - we were both ok - but VERY SCARY.....(and I don't scare easy pholks ;) )....uncharacteristically I burst into tears AFTER I ranted at the buffoon who didn't even LOOK at the roundabout (I don't believe you have them  )

'He' gave me a false name and address and had false number plates so I couldn't claim on his insurance

Sarah,

My God--how do people live with themselves? Thank goodness you guys are mostly ok--I could just "hear" in your post how stressed and anxious you still were. Hope you all got a peacefull night's sleep. :)

In 2003, I was sitting at a light in my town right after work like normal....when the light turned, the huge flatbed truck in front of me rolled backward and I sat there as my car crumpled in front of me. I was unhurt, but so shaken up--it was all I could do to not vomit right then and there.

Luckily, the truck driver admitted to the policeman that he rolled back and hit me, so I didn't have to explain anything much to the insurance co. Hope that the facts come to light and they can prove that she hit you--I'm sure they will. The insurance companies do a thorough researching of accidents even when there is no dispute over whose fault it was. I hope when that happens, she will also be issued a ticket. Damn liar that she is....and her friends, too. <_<

Nikki,

I was thinking of A last night :D Glad he got off ok and is comfortable with the staff and his traveling companions. Honest to gosh, that is the cleanest place I've ever seen! When we were there, if a kid dropped an ice cream in the street, immediately, an elf appeared to clean it up--they are good! He's going to have the time of his life! :)

Amanda,

So happy to hear Landon is feeling better! Enjoy this beautiful day--it gets colder tomorrow B)

All right!!

We're back in business telecommunications-wise. The Great HonoUrable Bell Canada had one of their techies here at 9:30 (supposed to be between 12 and 6--good thing someone was here), and he scurried up our outside pole and fiddled around for twenty minutes. He was extremely attractive...a nice bonus, and was absolutely SMIITEN with Gus. Yes, quite lovely all around....smoldering blue eyes, five-o'clock shadow, square chin, six-foot two-ish....

Anyways!! Where was I?!

When I called Bell yesterday, the man I spoke to, I am certain, was not only East Indian, but in India. Apparently this is happening now--cheaper to farm out the calls to developing and third world countries...bizarre. And as per usual, this agent struggled to understand me, and I was constantly correcting his verb tenses and vocabulary usage.:rolleyes:

So! It's all good now....

Have you ever noticed that when you sign up for a Bell service you talk to a very kind, helpful, clearly native speaker of English, but when you need to call for help once you've already signed up you get someone much more difficult to understand and who may not really be understanding you either.

Yep!

Bell Canada can be a royal pain in the @$ at times.

True!! And there is no competition for customer service/repair....not good.

Sarah, I am SO SORRY this happened to you. You are such a strong girl to be rollin' with all this....:angry:

\Amanda,

So happy to hear Landon is feeling better! Enjoy this beautiful day--it gets colder tomorrow B)

It is going to be cold like all next week...what is with that....its like a tease I tell you. So I bought a High chair, in very good clean condition at Salvation Army today for 4.99 so we had a place for Landen now that he is eating food. It is too much trouble lugging hers up and down between the houses. I washed it all up.

My parents just left, had a very nice day with them as well. Such a gorgeous day out....rain tomorrow though. We had one heck of a T-storm last night as well.

I am typing to my fellow sillies from my balcony right now, I am spread on the lawn chairs and I stretched out my DSL wire so I can get the net....wireless is not working :( Aww this is the life sillies!

Landen got his silly back!!! :) :)

Tom- The weggies flyer is up in the air, I have not been in it yet, but hopefully soon, I sent the photo release back to them last month. I am not sure how long it takes to get those pictures inserted into the papers themselves. I will make sure everyone knows though.

So glad Landen is silly again, he was so much fun last night!

Just got a real table to replace the p.o.s. wheeled shelfy thing we've been using. Free, off of craigslist.

BTW, has anyone seen how ridiculous the personal ads are there? Oh .. .I suppose not.

Anyway, the VAST majority of women-seeking-men, of course are spammy b.s., but what's TRULY ridic is that whenever one seems real, it's 'flagged for removal' for reasons unknown, by a bunch of jackasses who click on some obviously-abused Feature.

Almost every time I've looked there are new Rants about how useless that part of craigslist is, because a few morons get the legit ads removed w/ a few clicks & zero accountability.

Kinda makes it almost worth all the inconvenience, those hunky repairmen :D

You 2 are 2 for 2 this week!!

Now why have *I* never ONCE had a hot chickadee come by to fix anything???????????????

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.

Welcome to the community! Generally, for a gluten challenge before celiac disease blood tests, Tylenol (acetaminophen) is considered safe and should not interfere with your antibody results. The medications you typically need to avoid are those like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve) that can cause intestinal irritation, which could potentially complicate the interpretation of an endoscopy if you were to have one. However, it is absolutely crucial that you confirm this with either your gastroenterologist or your surgeon before your procedure. They know the specifics of your case and can give you the definitive green light, ensuring your surgery is comfortable and your celiac testing remains accurate. Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow

Thank you for the advice. I’ve actually never checked for nutritional deficiencies, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve always taken vitamin and mineral supplements — otherwise my symptoms get worse. This week I stopped eating gluten to confirm whether my symptoms are really caused by it. Starting next week, I’ll reintroduce gluten — it’s sad to go back to how I was before — but at least I’ll be able to take the necessary tests properly. I think the diagnostic process will be long, but at least I’m happy that I finally decided to address this doubt I’ve had for years.
