I would think it would be fine. Engagement is more of a social construct than an legal one, I think. I'm sorry for the difficult situation your daughter is going through. I'm sure she's grateful to have the soft landing of home to boomerang back to during this hard time. And I have to second what Patti mentioned -- I have a great aunt who went through a very similar situation and I attended the 50th anniversary of her second marriage just a couple of years ago. I'm sending thoughts of strength for her and you and your family.

So . . . we were at the party this afternoon/evening and I did it! :D I was able to get a private moment with her and explained why I wanted her to have this special gift and my intense gratitude to her and I didn't freeze up or stutter or cry (well maybe a few tears but no unsightly sobbing ). There was much hugging and many tears on her part. She seemed very touched and her happiness made all of the anxiety and agonizing worth it. Thanks everyone for being my sounding board and givers-of-advice . I tend to over think things (if that wasn't already obvious! )

You can get engaged, but in some places, the divorce has to be final for a certain amount of time before you can get married again (here it's a year) once the divorce is final.

Trip Update!!!!

I am the world's worst neighbor. My neighbor asked me on Friday to let her dogs out at 10 & 2 as no one would be home to do it and their youngest dog (a couple of years old) has potty issues . . . I TOTALLY SPACED IT!!!! OMGAWD!!!!! What do I do?? She has a college student staying at the house now till they get back from vacation so whatever happened, the college student had to deal with. I'm waiting until a more likely hour that their house-sitter will actually be up and then I think I'll just go give her some money and buy off my guilt!!! I told my husband what I did and his response? . . . not, Oh I'm sure it won't be too bad . . . it was Yeah, you are the world's worst neighbor!

...I dunno if your Ikea's work like ours but you amble round looking (taking hrs..t'is like a rats maze)....find what you like

.....WRITE it down on a bit o' paper (weird Swedish names like 'FRARKE', measurements, coloUr)

... struggle through the lighting, bedroom, bathroom, textile depts

.....go downstairs and TRY TO FIND your flat pack furniture which is spread over umm. 60 AISLES

.....n.b half is out of stock. .........queue for 20 mins......hot, sweaty...& feet are killin' me

This is truly what they make YOU DO IN HELL (but with small children)

I was wondering why all these people brought their kids wif 'em to Ikea.....then I realised I had 2 of mine wiv' me :laughing:

The highlight of the trip however was that we managed to buy a frozen gluten-free tarte (pie) in their small food dept -gotta luv the Scandinavians for always doing gluten-free options -(BTW - they also do fantastic meatballs in their restaurant )

....but Tel squashed me finger whilst loading a particulary cumbersome flat packed chest of drawers

This all started 'cos someone gave us some really nice fully lined curtains which I thought would go nice in Al's bedroom....BUT I needed to get him a new blind......couldn't bear the thought of a nicely dressed window and all that old furniture & paintwork

So, we've gotta get the paint now (choosing coloUr is totally my domain).....but listen to this...what'cha think???????

Ah, IKEA.

They intentionally design their stores as one long aisle so you absolutely must walk past every single @#%@$%@# thing in the entire store. Every single time.

And, when you finally get to the end of the labyrinth, you learn that "ikea" is a Swedish word which means "out of stock."

I haven't been inside in years, but we drive past the North York store several times a week. It is right next the 401 highway, which is one of our commute routes.

MODERATION!!? That's an understatement if I've ever heard one. Limiting oneself to a small portion like that and putting it away for a week is madness!!

How dearly I love you and wanted to report this news to you. I just posted the very tragic news of the plane crash that took my boyfriend's brother and SIL's lives. (Craig and Michelle.)

I wanted you all to know, and those who pray, we really, really need prayers for peace, comfort, and no small amount of grace during this time.

Heading up in a few minutes to drive David to be with his family.........don't know when I'll be back.

Sad face doesn't remotely convey what this is like.
