So. I have just had the fortunate opportunity to meet, in the flesh, THE most meet-able, rewardingly kind, phunny member of this phorum. Think of everything you would imagine Patti to be like in real life.....well, it's all there: lovely, patient, listens to everything (I mean everything - - oh, gawd...) you say, informative, hilarious....yep, just too much.:lol:

And Mark!! OMG......Charming and hilarious. Jack cannot stop commenting on how phunny this man is - - direct quote - - "Mom, Mark paid attention to everything I said, and he even kept looking at me in my eyes. That is rare, and it made me feel great!" :)

We lured the Pattis from Starbucks to our open house at the hotel, and furthered our amazing chatter on the patio with wine.

Now, everyone...Patti, I know, probably wasn't feeling the best, as she has her blood work tomorrow and mentioned she wasn't 100%. But I just keep thinking, MAN, what in hell is she like when she's ON?

Thanks SO much, Patti, for welcoming me to your beautiful neck of the woods, especially when you likely weren't feeling terrific.

If you guys ever get even a remote chance to meet this great woman in person, do whatever it takes!

I did NOT wear me bib. But a couple of the pics taken are of just our breasts, and you will have to guess whose are whose. :o

   Yeah- the PSILLIES SUMMITTED!!!!!!

I am NOT in the least bit surprised that this was what Patti was like in person- and the DH Mark!!!!!!!!!

I bet she'll say the same about you Miss Emily!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:rolleyes:

So . ....I'm going back & forth on heading down to 'Music in THE Park' right now.

It's at the bigger park that's further away . ... .how much perfume?? Any chance I can get a decent sightline?

It's Pete Escovedo - to me, very famous but I was surprised that roomie John had no idea. Is he only that famous in CA and in latin jazz circles??

I bet she'll say the same about you Miss Emily!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:rolleyes:

And right you are, Bev! :D

I can't remember when I've had a nicer evening. Emily and her family are the most delightful people--Em is every bit as phunny as she is here and is so warm and easy to talk to. She's one of those people with a gift for making everyone around her feel so comfortable, as though you've known her forever. And did I mention phunny?? B)

It was so nice to meet her DH Will--what a sweet guy, just the nicest person! Loved talking to Sophie and Jack (The Ripper)--what fantastic kids!!! Both so well mannered and intelligent, it was a pleasure getting to know them.

The hours just flew by, I truly think we could have sat there and talked all night!

The fly in the ointment here is that I can't get a single picture to download onto the board  I've been sitting here at least a half hour--Em, even the breast pic won't load :P Gawd--I've tried everything--I may try and make one my personal picture for now till I can get it to work.

Morning Sillies...didnst get an appointment yesterday hopefully today. My Dr was not in so I didn't want to see the woman who was there I dont like her. My dr knows me and is celiac aware and I feel most comfortable with her.

The coughing is like a dry-non productive cough and it hurts like heck. Jen my nurse neighbor thinks its either bronchitis or pneumonia.....wonderful being I am heading to NY in 3 days for vacation!

PAtti and Em I am glad to hear you guys had a wonderful time! Next time I promise!

Hi Susie! Hope you are doing well.

Took one last, phabulous run through the streets of Philadelphia this am...... . . .

What a tremendous city! :)

I have been trying to post a few times this morning in this thread and it's still rather phunky....not sure what is going on? I think it might be because Emily abandoned her post  Hopefully all will return to normal when she gets back home.

Loved hearing from you ladies how your meeting went, like Susie said, it warmed me heart!!

Amanda, I hope you get into the Dr today, that sounds heinous :(

Don't seem to have any phunnee in me today . . . but a friend of mine does:

The Rules of Chocolate

If you've got melted chocolate all over your hands, you're eating it too slowly.

Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices & strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want.

The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car.The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.

Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite, and you'll eat less.

If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves.

If I eat equal amounts of dark chocolate and white chocolate, is that a balanced diet? Don't they actually counteract each other?

Money talks. Chocolate sings. Beautifully.

Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger. Therefore, you need to eat more chocolate.

A nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories in one place. Now, isn't that handy?

If you can't eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can't eat all your chocolate, what's wrong with you?

Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing done.

I've decided that my Edna goal is to weigh what I put on my driver's license by my birthday. This, of course, raises other issues such as: What do I put on my driver's license? What I think I can con people into believing?

What I want to weigh next year?

Anything I want cause no one ever looks anyway?

Here we just have to list height and eye color--and that's quite enough! :P

Don't bother with Indiana, Jess . . . <_<

Really, it doesn't make much sense to have it on there. We have to renew every four years . . . a lot of weight can be gained and lost (and gained again) in that amount of time.

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.
