Hello everybody! You've probably sensed me lurking around in the background. It wasn't INTENTIONAL Lurking! Honest! I didn't mean to lurk! Started out trying to find out what this Sam Hill thing was all about.....even started at the beginning ooooohhhhh! After 50 pages started jumping around until I got really tired. <_< . I'm still jumping around, but I figured after slinking around and peeking from the edges I ought to let you know right up front....YOU'RE BEING WATCHED! Now...I mean no harm, but like the little kid watching from the sidelines...I really want to play!

Thanks to all of you for the laughs these last few days. I really needed them. I love the little community that you've built up....will there be a community pool and park in the works? I expect to be peeking in now and again. I promise to make myself known from now on, so you won't feel like someone is reading over your shoulder. As Andy Rooney would say....."don't you just hate that?"

He's been using the crutch tip as dentive device. Had a big argument w/ Mrs Chow and she slapped him upside d'head, knocking his rubber 'dentures' out, causing them to fly through the air and land in the ho' tub. Previously was cinder block colored (matching his teeth ( )) but became discolored when exposed to the chemicals (or pre-teens) in the water.

Don't know much about building pools....but I did build a pond last year. Great for the birdies! Y'all are welcome to sit and sip and watch birds.....maybe when it gets warm again. I'm cold except in the warmest of temps!

Thanks for the welcome. Am looking forward to reading more. Right now I better get my butt busy doing something besides playing here. Time somehow gets caught up in the slipstream and is gone before I even know it's going! Could make for a wild ride if I could figure out how to grab hold  (wheeeeee). Till later.......Theresa

Hello everybody! You've probably sensed me lurking around in the background.

Flourgirl!! Welcome back! You are Theresa, which means you are a harvester. Very good for us.....forget the pool - -could we get you to plot out and design a large, peaceful, hanging garden for us to loll about in and drink our absinthe? I think your name's on this one. . .. . ..

My psillies cheer me when it seems nothing else can- can you believe we have over 1500 PAGES of pure laughter and support. All of us have been through a LOT yet we go on, laughing and cheering one another. It's pretty special

Oh Julie- Put the CARAMEL corn clusters down and walk away slowly with your hands up :P I saw them last night in Target and made myself look the other way

I really want margaritas in en's tub with Canadian snow slowly whirling down!!!

Bev, I loved what you said and I so agree. SO VERY SPECIAL, and all of you make this place what it is

You should not have walked the other way!! I am telling you it is to die for!! Especially the Apple Cinnamon Pecan, it transports you to a cozy mountain lodge with an open fire all snuggled up on the couch sipping hot apple cider...and interestingly enough you can see through the windows Canadian snow slowly whirling down :D

On the odd occasion, I find myself sitting alone in the ho' tub at night, and I'll suddenly picture all me Psillies sitting on the jetted seat rests all around me. It's a very tight squeeze, but SO wunnerful.. . . . .

Oh Em, this made me larff!!!

sillies - I have gone to the store, and I have Nuggets. somehow I am going to have to blame Jewel-lee.

GUILTY!!!! :D

And yes, where is Erica?!

Loved yer snowflakes Sooze, BEAUTIFUL!!!

Lisa, that is genius to put periods between and the shapes and then color them white!!

Actually, Sooooze.... .. those snowflakes are astonishing in their accuracy. Did you not know that Canadian snow falls just like that? Straight down, in rows.

We're a conservative, lacadasical place. . . . .....

TOM!!!! Hee hee, I made a typo....but south of the border arts are so much funnier!!

Weenis Symposium!!

You use conditioner as well as shampoo???

.........Frizz Ease is what I use, never put it near your roots (greasy mess!!)

Maybe some straighteners would smooth things out for yer????

...and your right about the hair coloUr, as you got older you should ALWAYS go lighter as darker can make your skin look sallow :o

The expert has spoken!!

I would have to agree on the straightening products, or what I have seen categorized here as "smoothing" products. To this day I am stilll searching for the perfect product for me own hair (and I suspect I will forever be looking for it  ) so I don't have any specific brand I can recommend Sooze.....I am currently testing out a smoothing serum by Biolage, but all the brands seem to have a smoothing line.

And Nikki is right, these serums and such you must use sparingly and with caution. They are oils so you could have a greasy mess on yer hands if you over use.

OMG!! Jewel- li's Caramel clusters sound DIVINE!!!!!!!!!! :P (GADS!, I may be ill, but I ain't lost me appetite!)

Divine indeed, I know what ya mean about the appetite. I have never been one to lose my appetitie at any time, or forget to eat

Well, my Scottish family maternal connection is the Leslie clan (we've teamed up with Nikki at some point for some boisterous marauding).....our tartan is a lovely hunter green and navy/black, and our motto is "Grip Fast".

Hmmmm... .. .what, indeed, is a Weenal Colony.. . . . .

((sigh)))... .....Tareighsah.... . ...if ya hafta ask, you'll never know.:lol:

Weenal is a posited adjective form of Weenis, Soooozie's sudden, hilarious term for "penis" (if you have any interest in learning the ASL signage for this word, we have this available in our exhaustive thread, as well - - go back about 300 pages).

Since we, as an exclusive group here in The Pville, have been known to digress fairly regularly into such subject matter, Patti brilliantly referred to us a Weenal Colony.

Who is our Commanding Officer? General? Colonel? I should think it'd best be Ptaoughmghmn or POeter, since they actually own weenii. . . . ...

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
