Having nothing to do with the topic at hand: I just had PB all melty on toast. Yum! All my life, I would have a PB sandwich or on toast and feel bloated and blechy for hours after. I could eat small amounts of PB straight from the jar. Just thought all the fat or something made it hard to digest. Not anymore! It was the bread all along! :)

:D :D :D

Isn't that great, Karreighn! I always thought it was the sandwich fillings that didn't agree wif me too. Never, ever suspected the bread

Having friends over for supper tonight . . . because I don't have enough to do.

I told my friend to keep in mind that I just got back from one trip and getting reading for the next . . . was even debating NOT unpacking the kid's clothes . . . she said not only would she not have unpacked, she would have told the kids to wait in the car.

Musta been Spain one summer..... had to buy a fan - t'was UN bearable!!

But the Kiwis are going home - with their heads high, and undefeated :):o

They did purty good!!!!!! :D

...and USA equalising wiv Ghana!!!

Made a thrilling entrance to Incline Village last night  After unpacking the luggage and hauling all the stuph from the garage, ran out of wind, literallly  Ended up with atrial fib. and unable to catch my breath, no oxygen getting to my brain, a neighbor helped Clay walk me to da car, and spent several hours in ER with repeat EKG's, blood tests, IV meds until it all passed over. If I had been at home t'would not have been a crisis, but since I am not altitude adjusted yet my heart was not pumping very effectively at all. What is it about psoriatic arthritis and poorly pumping hearts??? Tel and I would make a good pair. They could not believe that it all just cleared up and I am phine today. Still, have an urgent call in to my PCP for a visit and cardiac referral, which was one of my goals here anyway. At least he will now know why I is coming to see him

Well WIH?!

....at least your docs won't blame it on the anti TNF's

Take it easy Shroom-ee.

So, I've got a little boy who has taken to lying about EVERYTHING. He has been grounded, spanked-which doesn't work, I even took his birthday away, which he now has to "earn back" by not lying....What do I do???? My dd went thru this phase around the same time, but it was nuphin like this, and he's SOOOOOO bad at it. He must think I'm stupid if he thinks I would actually believe what's coming out of his mouth. It's gotten so bad that he even lied 1/2 asleep this morning when I woke him up... Me, "Are you wearing clean underwear after your shower last night?" Him, "Uh, yeah..." The kid was wearing NO underwear. GAHHHHHHHH!!!

Any advice?

Still working on that one with my 15 yr old.

...let you know when I've cracked it :lol:

Did they convert you out of the afib, did you convert by yourself or are you still in it??? Has this happened before? Have you had an echocardiogram to check the size of your heart, specifically the atria? If you're still in it, do they have you on a blood thinner?

Take care of yerself!!!

Rae-shull, a psillie with a speciality of cardiacness!!!

GADS we keep you busy!! ;)

There's really no way to get around it, Karreighn. :P

Nope, might just as well get yer wellie boots and embrace it

It may not even happen to you--the ensuing event has been known to cross-psillie. You want to be alert, but it could hit any one of us instead.

WHOA!!!

Phorgot that!!

I'm keeping my head down, but a group of about 1000 G20 protesters are clashing with over 100 police in riot gear about five miles south of here. The are also reports of a possible major gas leak at the same location with fire crews responding.

WIH?!?!

Canada seems a dangerous place to live right now!! :o;)

OHHHhhhhhh...Ghana scored again!!!!! nervous-football.gif

That they are. A mob is moving north on Yonge St (the main drag) smashing windows and looting indiscriminately.

PeOter--where are you and Jacquie now? Is the crowd moving towards your direction? This is scary--I saw the police car set on fire on TV a little while ago.

psawyer Proficient

Jacquie is at the store, but I am at home. The crowds are moving north, toward the store, but they are still over five miles away. I'm going to leave in a couple and head down there--I'll be offline for about 25 minutes if the roads are clear.

Jestgar Rising Star

dang. I have no tv and haven't been listening to the radio. You guys are my only news source.

psawyer Proficient

We are both at home now, after stopping for pizza (yes, Em, there) on the way home.

The thugs are still running amok in the downtown area. A fourth police car has been torched by the thugs and is still burning as of the last I knew.

There are reports in the media, just now confirmed by official sources, that police have used tear gas and have fired rubber bullets within the past three hours. Neither of those measures have ever before been needed in Toronto. Pepper spray has also been used. Open Original Shared Link

I went to Silverdale (the nearest shopping town) yesterday and decided to stop into Costco to grab just what I needed, more wine. I grab a couple bottles and as I'm wandering through the store with them I figured I may as well grab some food for Lyle. So I'm meandering through the aisles juggling wine and a case of Fancy Feast and I realized I'm like the poster child for pitiful cat lady.....

Since I was a baby and my favorite toy was a stuffed kitty, I have wanted to be a cat lady. Sister was allergic so we couldn't have one but the neighborhood cats would wait for me to come out. Married a guy who's a bit scared of cats. I'm envious. :). Dog likes cats so I'm hoping one might just "appear".

YES!! We MUST organize something... . . . somehow!!

Went to a wedding yesterday. Am hungover and still full of gluten-free food.... . . they brought out special gluten-free dinners for DH and I AND about seven other people - - word is getting out, and people are getting diagnosed! :) Ten years ago likely no one would have had that special dinner order, and nine people would be gassy, bloated and cramped up in bed through the night . ... .

How is downtown presently, POeter? Things wrap up today, methinks. . .. . ...

jerseyangel Proficient

Glad you had a good time yesterday, Em. How cool that they served gluten-free food!!

You guys are some of the smartest, kindest pholks I have ever met. I know you won't think I'm a loon when I ask you what you think about this. It's driving me nuts.

A while back, Burt's Bees changed the ingredients of the shampoo and conditioner I had used for quite a while. I tend to get headaches from scents, so for the last probably 6 weeks, I've been using this brand of unscented hair care.

Open Original Shared Link

I called to make sure it was gluten-free, and the lady said they don't use grain derived ingredients and that the vitamin E was not derived from wheat. Never used the term gluten-free, but I thought it would be fine.

I use it every day--some days just the conditioner. I've not been feeling "myself" for a couple months--nothing major just slight queasiness, fuzzy head, what feels like a bad sinus headache, dry lips, some tingling, and anxious day in and day out.

I'm going through a little bit of a stressful time, but I pseriously don't think that's it because that's not my normal reaction to stress and I've been through worse. I saw my ENT last week, and he said I had "Allergic Rhinitis" and a long word that means eczema of the middle ear. I already take Claritin and Nasacort AQ since those are chronic for me. Other than that, he suggested allergy testing.

The confusing part--after doing a sorta-elimination diet the last couple of weeks, I got to the shampoo and stopped using it. I started to feel better today within hours of showering and using a little Johnson's Baby shampoo, and all the stuff I was feeling is fading as the day goes on. I haven't been sleeping well, and this afternoon I feel like I could drift off to sleep. How does a person react to something like that? I just don't understand it.

Did I know Em was going to Chicago??? Was that a conversation from when I was gone . . . cuz I didn't go and read everything. Em, when are you going? If I can swing it (time-wise), count me in. We are headed to OBX Saturday . . . gonna pay a visit to Lisa while I'm there.

Now why is this driving you nuts?? . . . It was something new, you eliminated it, now you feel better. Good job!! I looked at the ingredients. It's all very chemicalful . . . of course, most shampoo/conditioners are . . . so it's hard to tell what's in it/where it came from.

Skin contact . . . sinus contact . . . inflamation/irritation that just spreads and spreads . . . I got a small rash on my face once from a product that I used in a very small local area . . . my whole face reacted . . . um  . . . it was NOT a pretty sight.

Jestgar Rising Star

I dunno either sweetie. I think I've had an inflammatory reaction to the glue the contractor used to put down the backer board. Just what came into the air, 'cause I haven't touched nuthin.

I live in the upper mid-west and was just diagnosed with marsh 3c celiac less than a month ago.  As a 51 year old male, I now take a couple of different gluten free vitamins.  I have not noticed any reaction to either of these items.  Both were purchased from Amazon. 1.  Nature Made Multivitamin For Him with No Iron 2.  Gade Nutrition Organic Quercetin with Bromelain Vitamin C and Zinc Between those two, I am ingesting 2000 IU of vitamin D per day. Best of luck, Known1

I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.
