Thanks for the present!

Happy Birfday K!!!

Hubby and kids didn't remember??? Well, that's the norm at my house. Hubby always asks me when his mother's birfday is . . . Let us know if they were faking not remembering . . . always good to have the over-the-top guilt-trip present in mind so that they can make it up to you just in case they really did forget.

BE's dad had a stroke yesterday and they're keeping him at the hospital for 2 days. The boys take turns staying with mom at the hospital and tonight is Blue Eyes' night.

I'm thinking of dropping my stat class because I don't think I'm learning it well enough. Making an appointment with the prof to discuss it with him.

Oh no--I will keep his dad in my thoughts.

Good luck with your meeting with the professor :)

I was just talking to Jack about the world of statistics, and I read this.. . . . ....I then mentioned that you may be dropping your class, and he said, "Oh, man, stats would be so EASY! It's stuff like, "there have been 12, 084, 695 global hectares of desertification this year..... .. 1, 936,00,704 google searches have been performed so far today. . . ....... 10 % of all human beings ever born are alive at this very moment".. . . .. .ya know, stuff like that. EASY!"

Keirregne's boifday - many happies!

BE's dad - hope he recovers and gets outta there :)

I am so TOTALLY not with LGG.

Statistics - think you have to be bad at addition to be able to do that. Clay taught a stat class once - has me do the adding no matter what it is; my erstwhile bridge partner (a naval architect by training) who KNOWS what cards everyone is holding, can't add up our score :blink: Me, I took math all the way through HS and flunked it every year, including on school certificate. Fortunately they averaged your subjects for school cert. :P cos I flunked chemistry too, of course.

Does sound like more fun.

M, could you have Jack whip this out for me:

A random variable has pdf f(x) = 1/(b-a) when a<x<b, and 0 otherwise.

a ) derive the mgf Mx(t)

b ) hence, or otherwise, find E[X^k] where k is a positive integer.

I need it by Wednesday morning.

GRRRR... I just lost my reply!!!!!!!!

I can't imagine taking Statistics. Good luck with the professor, Jetsgar. I taught G&T one year. I was great at teaching Architecture, Medieval Times, Journalism, and How to Write a Research Paper but teaching these kids math was HARD. They thought nothing of correcting the teacher to begin with. I developed a system of having a backup "teacher of the day" if I needed it and they rose to the occasion. I also learned a lot (I'm a firm believer that you can learn from kids). I think I've always been mathematically challenged and I almost didn't take the job when I found out I was teaching G&T Math.

Healing prayers to BE's Dad.

Big Birthday Hugs to the lady who brought me here and feeds and walks me. I'm sure your hubby has something up his sleeve (or else!!!).

Gawd Loughie--are you alright? :o

I had just discovered that the reason I tend to fall a lot is probably Ataxia (not klutziness, which I always assumed it was). The very same night I found out about it I rolled out of bed and the sound was so loud it woke Superman right up. He got me ice and that helped with the swelling. I do still feel like a truck hit me. Superman/Clark is the sweetest guy and I don't want to leave the house looking like this. Luckily my gluten-free makeup covers it because we had plans to see our son for dinner at college yesterday. He's an oblivious 18 year old and the lights were dim. I told him about it and at first he said "so dad thought you fell out of bed" and we both said, "no I did fall out of bed." I got an extra hug from him.

I'll get a blood work up to see what vitamin deficiencies I might have as soon as my GI refers me to a GP. Thankfully the GI is finally taking me seriously since the capsule endoscopy showed an ulcer. I actually get my calls returned immediately. It's amazing how many pieces to the puzzle there are. This forum has taught me so much and of course the best part is the psilliness!!!!!!!!!

Last month I got blood tests done. My iron level was at 205 ug/dL and 141 ug/dL iron binding capacity unsaturated, 346 ug/dl total iron binding capacity, 59 transferrin % saturation. My ferritin level was at 13 so I got tested for celiac disease last week. My tTG-IgA is <.05, DGP IgA is 4.9 and ferritin level is 9. My doctor didn't order other celiac disease tests. In 2021 I was dealing with severe constipation and hemorrhoids. I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I still deal with hemorrhoids but only about once a week. Also, I've been dealing with very pale skin for at least 5 years. Do you think I have celiac disease?

Hi Cristiana! It's so nice to meet you! Thank you for the kind reply I am glad I live in a time where you can connect with others through the Internet. That is a mercy I am grateful for.

In the study linked above, the little girl switched to a gluten free diet and gained enough weight that that fat pad was replenished and surgery was not needed.   Here's the full article link... Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.

@pothosqueen, Welcome to the tribe! You'll want to get checked for nutritional deficiencies and start on supplementation of B vitamins, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1.   There's some scientific evidence that the fat pad that buffers the aorta which disappears in SMA is caused by deficiency in Thiamine.   In Thiamine deficiency, the body burns its stored fat as a source of fuel.  That fat pad between the aorta and digestive system gets used as fuel, too. Ask for an Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test to look for thiamine deficiency.  Correction of thiamine deficiency can help restore that fat pad.   Best wishes for your recovery!   Interesting Reading: Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome in a 6-Year-Old Girl with Final Diagnosis of Celiac Disease https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31089433/#:~:text=Affiliations,tissue and results in SMAS.
