We used to make forts and tunnels out of these.

They used to do that, too. We have 2 giant piles on the sides of the driveway. I think I may move them each to their own igloo.

Cool tunnel!!! . . . Karen, is it big enough to make a tunnel for the car to get out of the drive thru?

Hubby keeps going out and hacking at the drive and them coming back in to say he can't make a dent then going back out to hack at the drive . . . etc . . . he's talking about using the ax . . . hope I can get him to the ER when he has a heart attack or accidently chops his foot off.

Be sure to put the severed toes into a snowdrift to keep them alive. You can always pack hubby into a snowdrift too, until the ambulance comes.

We got less snow than expected. The Toronto school board panicked last night and canceled classes for the first time since 1999. It was finished the first wave before we left home this morning. The second wave is beginning now.

We were talking to the owner of a retail Maine Coon cat in Nevada whose cat dives into snow banks and tunnels through, popping up who knows where - doesn't need no humans to make his tunnels :lol:

Loey, so sorry about Clark's pending transfer - what another upset in your lives. Companies is heartless that's for sure. :(

Communication with Queensland is down for now - will have to wait to find out how they fared. :(

Around here, snows been minimal of late (though we should be good supposedly in the way of water supply due to the fact we had a good winter at the end of 2010, which I can''t see how. I don't remember getting a whole a lot of precipitation.) But we were supposed to get a crazy windstorm with a little bit of snow and ice yesterday morning that was supposed to chaos in the AM rush hour. Only got the crazy wind.

In other news... this thread is too serious again... so well here's the sillyness to last a century. A monday headline in the SL tribune read "Man robs credit union, rides off on mountain bike." The funny part? He actually got away on a mountain bike! As one of my friends said, "Who knew robbing a bank could be so easy!"

Another Monday headline "Millard county thieves carve hole in wall, door remains intact." In the article, it said that most robberies break in the door (well duh), but they carve d into the wall. (And if I remember correctly it was right next to the door.) And inside, unlike most robberies that are a get in get out, these people took time to go out of their way damage everything and so on so forth...

Simply love those mammoth ridges at the end of the driveway... . . . . ...there will be quite a pile there at the end o' this storm, to be sure. Think I will just shovel two spots in it, tire width, later on this afternoon and I can aim my car for them when I head out. :rolleyes:

Must take a pic of Elsie and Hank in their new Muttlucks, dog booties from up north. These guys have big, webbed feet, being water retrievers, so the psnaough just packs in between their toes and they cannot walk. The two look very adorable, but seem somewhat embarrassed around other dogs. . . .. . . ..

Low-eeeigh! So sorry to hear about more upheaval in your life. . . . . ...:(. . ..thinking about you!

Make sure there is good snow for us. We are coming in March!

My son, J, said that it takes the money from robbing a credit union to buy a good mtn bike!

We have had the hole in the wall robberies here. They break in a backdoor of a business without great security because it doesn't have anything to steal ( like an ice cream shop). Once in the shop, they break thru the wall into a locked vault room of a jewelry store. Take their time and get all the jewels.

That ice has to be at least 2-3 inches in some places on our driveway :unsure: I know it's about an inch and a half on the hood of my car.

You ever seen those heated driveways? THAT'S what I want! Of course, if we're talkin about things we would have if we could afford them, I wouldn't be living where I would need one.

YO!!!! Missing Bunnie returns! It's EVER so much fun with the snow in Ct. My town usually lags behind the other towns by at least two hours, makes getting to work much fun. All you Canadians and Michiganers are up there laughing at the stupid New Englanders.....

We're out tomorrow as well . . . that kind of surprised me . . . at least the fact that they have already called it.

P.S. please all keep your eyes crossed for us. They're laying off more people than they're keeping. Having a weekend hubby would be better than us both being unemployed. Clark will have to start fighting crime and fly around in tights if he isn't transferred. A few of the men at work are talking about renting a house together. Wonder if it would be a frat house.

Thanks Em. Coming and talking to my psillies keeps me from screaming. I knew his company was known for doing this but we haven't even been here 7 months. At least we'll keep the house and I'll have all of you to keep me company while he's gone (if they don't lay him off).

Pleeze take the pics of Elsie & Hank. Could use all the smiles I can get right now!

Update on Yasi: Came onshore as a category 5, mostly missed Cairns and Townsville, but hit smaller communities in between hard. From the NZ Herald:

"Yasi made landfall at Mission Beach about midnight (AEST) when it was still a category five tropical cyclone.

The manager of the Elandra Resort David Brook said the area now looked like "Vietnam (in the war movie) Apocalypse Now".

Trees are down, cars have been swept away, roofs have been torn off and the sand on the beach is gone.

"Nothing's been spared. The devastation is phenomenal, like nothing I've ever experienced," the veteran of at least five cyclones told the ABC."

It has weakened as it headed inland and now down to about tropical storm level. So far no deaths or injuries reported. Yay!!! Have heard no phlooding reports.

      Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!

      my IGG is 815 IGA 203  but tTG-Iga is   <0.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!   oh my god- 13 days of agony and the test is negative?  I don't even know what to do next. There zero doubt in my mind that I have an issue with wheat and probably more so with gluten as symptoms are dramatically worse the more gluten a product has   I am going to write up the history of my issues for the past few years and start a food/symptom diary to bring with me to the GI doctor in March.   I googled like crazy to try to find out what other things might cause these symptoms and the only thing that truly fits besides celiac is NCGS   but I guess there are some other things I maybe should be tested for ...? like SIBO?   I will continue to eliminate any foods that cause me distress (as I have been doing for the past couple of years) and try to keep a record. Can anyone recommend an app or some form or something that would simplify this? I have a very full and busy life and taking the time to write out each symptom name in full would be tedious and time consuming- some sort of page with columns to check off would be ideal. I am not at all tech savvy so that's not something I can make myself ... I'm hoping there's some thing out there that I can just download and print out   do I give up on testing for celiac with such a low number? I am 70 yrs old I have been almost completely off gluten for the most part for about 2 yrs. I had a meal of vital wheat gluten vegan roast,  rolls and stuffing made from home baked bread and an apple pie- and had the worst pain and gas and bloating and odd rumblings in my gut etc - almost went to the ER it was so bad. I was thinking, since I'm spilling a lot of calcium in my urine, that perhaps this was a kidney stone (never had one before but there's always that first time, right?)    Saw my endo on Jan 20th and after hearing the story about the symptoms from eating that holiday meal, she suggested doing a gluten challenge. She said 2 weeks was fine- she said stopping it in the middle if symptoms got bad was fine- In the meantime I'd read that 2 weeks was not enough- called and argued with the nurse about this, but ultimately decided to stop the gluten on the 13th day and get the test done because I was in too much pain and almost suicidal and knew I could not continue.   so.............. that's where I am now I have had no bread since Sunday. I did have some rolled oats today and had some gas and bloating afterwards I did have some wheat germ in a smoothie on Tuesday and had a stomach ache later that night.   but overall I feel so much better! all the joint pain is gone! the nausea is gone. The stomach pain and gas and bloating are going away. Still a bit gassy but no more of that horrible odor. wow, that would clear a room if I was out in public!  I see a GI nurse March 4th  I hope she'll be able to help sort this out! can you think of what my next steps might be?

      What you’re describing is actually very common, and unfortunately the timing of the biopsy likely explains the confusion. Yes, it is absolutely possible for the small intestine to heal enough in three months on a strict gluten-free diet to produce a normal or near-normal biopsy, especially when damage was mild to begin with. In contrast, celiac antibodies can stay elevated for many months or even years after gluten removal, so persistently high antibody levels alongside the celiac genes and clear nutrient deficiencies strongly point to celiac disease, even if you don’t feel symptoms. Many people with celiac are asymptomatic but still develop iron and vitamin deficiencies and silent intestinal damage. The lack of immediate symptoms makes it harder emotionally, but it doesn’t mean gluten isn’t harming you. Most specialists would consider this a case of celiac disease with a false-negative biopsy due to early healing rather than “something else,” and staying consistently gluten-free is what protects you long-term—even when your body doesn’t protest right away.
