Well, Mark's dream came true--I have laryngitis! Can hardly croak out a word. :( I coughed so hard yesterday, I peed a little :P I never got colds all the years I had stomach problems from the undiagnosed Celiac--now all of a sudden, I get 2 colds in one winter

Boo, I'm sorry you're sick again -- not fair! I must recommend hot jello again. It just slides down so easily and kind of sticks to your throat a little bit -- surprisingly soothing. Being a mom, I'm sure you know all of these tricks already, but whenever my brother or I had uncontrollable coughing my mom or dad would turn the shower on really hot and sit holding us on the edge of the tub (a surprisingly fond memory I have :)). It usually quited down the cough. And of course elevating your head helps a nighttime cough. When nothing else helped, my dad would get us to lean upside down on the edge of the couch and he would pound our backs to break things up. This almost always helped but I'm not sure how feasible it is when you pass the stage of a small, limber child. It sure gives a pretty funny mental image!

And I think this is pretty common but I call it my grandpa's sore throat remedy: gargling with warm water with salt and baking soda dissolved in it.

Anyway, feel better!!! :D

Well Sillies, I am home and exhausted. We picked up my sister and the baby and then we went skiing. With their foot of new snow it was all powder, but only 8 degrees. We skiied from 5-9 without coming into the lodge. We did do some expert runs but not the runs that had moguls which neither of us enjoy. For my sister and her arthritis it is very difficult to use her knees on those.

We left at 7:45 this morning and I barely slept last night, I can see a nap on the agenda today.

I must report on something upsettingly disgusting that happened to me to day. I was out picking up a few things and needed to make a phone call. I didn't have my cell phone so I used a pay phone. While I was talking, my tongue peaked too far out of my mouth and contacted the mouthpiece. I was so disgusted I got chills and I began madly spitting and wiping my tongue with a Kleenex! I didn't think there was anything grosser than bum contact with a public toilet but I think for me this may have been worse!

Alex---gross gross!!! I am shivering hearing this!!!

Didn't your mom always tell you to keep your tongue in your mouth? :P

Yay Amanda!! Hope you get to ski!!!

B) <------- ski goggles

And this may be eerily similar to Alex's confetti, but I assure you it's gently falling snow.

Well Sillies I have done nearly four hours of yard work today and - - back is a mess. but, I have these Lidocaine patches to stick on there, quite excited about seeing how that will work. Our friend Squats made a BET with me that I wouldn't mow the lawn today...... "you'll get distracted by something shiny on the way out the door......." ha ha ha!!!!!!! Mowed the lawns, and three hours of weeding/pruning. HA!!!!!!!!!! ;P Starting to look rather civilized out there again.

off to the couch now.

:P

Susie-you deserve some couch time after all that work. Maybe your new sweetie can give a foot massage too!

Not at all :D Have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do B)

So Patti...what does that limit us too :)

Patti dear hope you feel much better...want me to send some hot tea??

Peter! You were involved in this great organization? Jack is very involved in Cubs. The Rally is coming up...Oracle Peter, what secrets can you give us for producing the winning car? More weight, of course....more streamlined? A hidden fan, or engine?

Well, during my years as a volunteer I did just about everything. But, it has been a very long time since I had any hands-on involvement with Cubs.

Streamlining doesn't make any difference to speed. Add weight, but don't exceed the limit which will be in the rally rules. Add the weight a bit ahead of centre, and low. Sticking weights on the underside is a good plan, but make sure you keep ground clearance. Some tracks are uneven, and you don't want to get stuck. But the key thing is to make sure the wheels turn smoothly with minimal resistance. A very small amount of vegetable oil on each wheel can make a world of difference.

Scouter Peter - yes, I think I would go with just Pete. We have a big Scouting affair today . . . Must start drinking soon so that I will survive . . . 100 Scouts plus siblings at a carnival . . . whose heinous idea was that???

Only 100? You call that big?

Perhaps you are speaking of the Sillyville theme song . . .Asylum?

He's mad, mad, mad...

Not quite right...

Yyyyyessss!! Thank you, Janet.....now the tune will be skittering around in my brain all day.

Nikki - Silly Walk -:lol: - you can NOT go wrong with a Monty Python clip.

It's actually frighteningly portentious......

Tom mentioned that I likely walk Sillily (Now how is that for a new word?), and I would judge that I normally don't. I asked Jack, and he agreed--nothing amusing about my walk. However, just got back from my crazy step class where I jump all over the place....now, I'm very active and have NEVER had a significant injury. But halfway through, while doing lunges that I do all the time, I suddenly felt a big POP in my upper calf. So I continued like an idiot...it got worse, so I collected my step and SILLY-WALKED it out of the gym. I am John Cleese-ing it now. Unbelievable.

Tom....how did you know?.....

Maybe I arranged the injury on purpose....the power of suggestion and all.....

Anyways, I'm about to look up treatment for torn/stressed calf muscles.

Baaaaahhhhhh.....no time for this...... :angry::angry:

Scouter Peter - yes, I think I would go with just Pete.

Peter, were you a Bagheera or a Baloo? I can see you as either....Peter Baloo has quite a ring to it....

Well, Mark's dream came true--I have laryngitis

Patti! Horrid. :( Warm jello, yes.

Emily and Peter--does this count as organ talk?

:lol: Again, I am somehow reminded of those magazines under bro's bed......

When nothing else helped, my dad would get us to lean upside down on the edge of the couch and he would pound our backs to break things up.

Yes, try this, Patti! Upside down, now...edge of the couch...DH pounding your back....could add a new romantic spark to things! And if you do this at a time when you also have the hiccups, ya may kill two birds!

Well Sillies, I am home and exhausted.

Sounds like a great run, Amanda! Our party ski trip is coming up.....calf MUST be completely better......

All right, all right . . . I feel I must interject . . .

Could be a difference between US and Canadian rules, but vegetable oil will get you disqualified here . . . don't want to gum up the track . . . they recommend powdered graphite here which is what we use.

Also, make sure you are right at the upper weight limit with the center of gravity about an inch in front of the rear axle.

But here is the most important part . . . polish the axles. The axle (aka the nail that holds the wheel on) has two mold lines which causes a lot of friction against the wheel. Sand those down smooth (for all four wheels) and your car will fly.

Not that we take that whole competition seriously or anything :P

As far as the vegetable oil goes . . . try massaging that into your calf or sumfin'

I was indeed known as Baloo during my last term as a Cub Leader, which was in 1977-78.

As noted above, it has been a looong time. When I was last involved, it was permissible provided no dripping took place. Rules change over time. I was involved in other aspects until early 2000, when I stepped down from my last active position due mainly to health issues (undiagnosed celiac).

From Open Original Shared Link

I can drink only white wines. Do red wines have more sulfites?

Actually, red wines may have less sulfites. In 1993 the European Union passed regulations permitting higher levels of total sulphur dioxide in dry white wine than in dry red wine and an even higher level in sweet white wines and rose wines. The higher level in the sweet wines are necessary to prevent the further fermentation of the higher levels of residual sugar.

Why THank you Janet! Quite the master googleateur you are!

It's probably safe to assume the US rules are similar ... ..n'est-ce pas?

The rest reminded me of Shelly's reaction to reds, which can ONLY be called heinous. I cringe a bit thinking of it.

It's some sort of nerve freakout that makes intermittent electric shock feelings in arms & legs. GAH!!!!!!! Forgot whether it's for hrs or most of a day. Needless to say, she hasn't had red wine in yrs.

Sure hope she doesn't run into a Gluten-free Casein-free etc-F sauce w/ a reduction tho.

**************

Suddenly remembering this goofy dream I had - kinda fuzzily tho.

They may have awoken me, or I was prone on a couch and sat up as it began.

It's 4 kids, maybe ages 4 to 8, all begging, almost frantically, for me to "do" or "play" . .maybe "sing" .. . ..Styx songs of all things.

Then they didn't like the two I remembered well enough to sing!!!

SUCH disappointment in those little faces - none of which I recognized btw.

Perhaps stranger yet, I'm now drawing a complete blank on which songs I 'knew' in the dream and can't think of a single one from the 70s - tho the dream songs were from ~'78.

WHAT DOES IT MEEEEEEEEEEEAN??????

Perhaps there are mold lines on my medial gastronemius that I can sand down to prevent this kind of injury from reoccurring, and speed me up so that I'll fly. The pain is actually worse, and tightening up. Not gooooodddd......:angry:

Let's see....some free association, here....(Gawd, first time with an injury, I'm forced to sit around, I'll be making you guys NUTS with all my time-filling queries)....

The River Styx...Dennis De Young.....The Grand Illusion....four children...

Did you dream about calf muscles, by any chance?

I see a voyage for you...could be hellish, like a river journey into some dark place, full of pretense and artifice....youthful life will abound, but again, look more closely....

Is it all just a Grand Illusion?

It starts 2min in, on the 1 of the measure (4/4 time of course), but when the band comes back in, the lick has shifted to the "and of 1".

Always liked these parts which toy w/ our sense of relative placement/timing.

Dream interpretation, my favorite

When you see children in your dream it can signify your own childlike qualities or a retreat back to a childlike state. It is an extension of your inner child during a time of innocence, purity, simplicity, and a carefree attitude. You may be longing for the past and the chance to satisfy repressed desires and unfulfilled hopes.

To sing in your dream, it may represents happiness, harmony and joy in some situation or relationship. You are uplifting others with your positive attitude and cheerful disposition. Singing is a way to celebrate, communicate and express your feelings.

To dream of disappointment, this can indicate real-life experiences of being continually disappointed. Such dreams often reflect repressed disappointments accumulated over a period of time.

Or it could just mean children don't like Styx songs

In my volunteer work with Scouts Canada, I was usually always known as "Scouter Pete" since "Scouter Peter" just has a rough sound to it.

Well, I like SCOOTER better than SCOUTER (certainly in this here venue of course - 'tis a more precise moniker in our silly venue - but we'll have to ask JacquIe if Pierre does any scooting along the carpet)........can we call you Scooter?

Since susie has worked for a winery I have to ask whether she knows if sulfites are more plentiful in reds vs whites?

<oh google-shmoogle we got a PRO here!!!>

:huh: I seriously cannot remember. Ever. thank God for Janet's googleateurism. I read the lecture, now already can't remember it.....will have to study it to smash it into my wee dingo brain.

If black seed oil is working for his Afib, stick to it, but if not, I can say that ablation therapy is no big deal--my mother was out of the procedure in about 1 hour and went home that evening, and had zero negative effects from the treatment. PS - I would recommend that your husband get an Apple watch to monitor his Afib--there is an app and it will take readings 24/7 and give reports on how much of the time he's in it. Actual data like this should be what should guide his treatment.

This happened to me as well. What’s weirder is that within a couple hours of taking paxlovid it subsided. I thought maybe I got glutened but after reading your post not so sure.

Hi Tiffany. Thank you for writing your dituation and  circumstancesin such detail and so well writte, too. I particularly noticed what you wrote about brain for and feeling like your brain is swelling and I know from my own experiences that's how it feel and your brain really does swell and you get migraines.    Way back when I was in my 20s I read a book by 2 MD allergist and they described their patient who came in complaining that her brain, inside her cranium, was swelling  and it happened when she smelled a certain chemical she used in her home. She kept coming back and insisting her brain actually swelled in her head. The Drs couldn't explain this problem so they, with her permission, performed an operation where they made a small opening through her cranium, exposed her to the chemical then watched as she brain did swell into the opening. The DRs were amazed but then were able to advise her to avoid chemicals that made her brain swell. I remember that because I occasionally had brain fog then but it was not a serious problem. I also realized that I was becoming more sensitive to chemicals I used in my work in medical laboratories. By my mid forties the brain fog and chemicals forced me to leave my  profession and move to a rural area with little pollution. I did not have migraines. I was told a little later that I had a more porous blood brain barrier than other people. Chemicals in the air would go up into my sinused and leak through the blood brain barrier into my brain. We have 2 arteries  in our neck that carry blood with the nutrients and oxygen into the brain. To remove the fluids and used blood from the brain there are only capillaries and no large veins to carry it away so all those fluids ooze out much more slowly than they came in and since the small capillaries can't take care of extra fluid it results in swelling in the face, especially around the eyes. My blood flow into my brain is different from most other people as I have an arterial ischema, adefectiveartery on one side.   I have to go forward about 20 or more years when I learned that I had glaucoma, an eye problem that causes blindness and more years until I learned I had celiac disease.  The eye Dr described my glaucoma as a very slow loss of vision that I wouldn't  notice until had noticeable loss of sight.  I could have my eye pressure checked regularly or it would be best to have the cataracts removed from both eyes. I kept putting off the surgery then just overnight lost most of the vision in my left eye. I thought at the I had been exposed to some chemical and found out a little later the person who livedbehind me was using some chemicals to build kayaks in a shed behind my house. I did not realize the signifance  of this until I started having appointments with a Dr. in a new building. New buildings give me brain fog, loss of balance and other problems I know about this time I experienced visual disturbances very similar to those experienced by people with migraines. I looked further online and read that people with glaucoma can suffer rapid loss of sight if they have silent migraines (no headache). The remedy for migraines is to identify and avoid the triggers. I already know most of my triggers - aromatic chemicals, some cleaning materials, gasoline and exhaust and mold toxins. I am very careful about using cleaning agents using mostly borax and baking powder. Anything that has any fragrance or smell I avoid. There is one brand of dishwashing detergent that I can use and several brands of  scouring powder. I hope you find some of this helpful and useful. I have not seen any evidence that Celiac Disease is involved with migraines or glaucoma. Please come back if you have questions or if what I wrote doesn't make senseto you. We sometimes haveto learn by experience and finding out why we have some problems. Take care.       The report did not mention migraines.

Hi Jmartes71 That is so much like my story! You probably know where Laytonville is and that's where I was living just before my 60th birthday when the new Dr. suggested I could have Celiacs. I didn't go on a gluten challange diet before having the Celiac panel blood test drawn. The results came back as equivical as one antibody level was very high but another, tissue transaminasewas normal. Itdid show I was  allergic to cows milk and I think hot peppers. I immediately went gluten free but did not go in for an endoscopy. I found an online lab online that would do the test to show if I had a main celiac gene (enterolab.com). The report came back that I had inherited a main celiac gene, DQ8, from one parent and a D!6 from the other parent. That combination is knows to sym[tons of celiac worse than just inheriting one main celiac gene. With my version of celiac disease I was mostly constipated but after going gluten-free I would have diarrhea the few times I was glutened either by cross contamination or eating some food containing gluten. I have stayed gluten-free for almost 20 years now and knew within a few days that it was right for me although my recovery has been slow.   When I go to see a  medical provide and tell them I have celiacs they don't believe me. The same when I tell them that I carry a main celiac gene, the DQ8. It is only when I tell them that I get diarrhea after eating gluten that they realize that I might have celiac disease. Then they will order th Vitamin B12 and D3 that I need to monitor as my B12 levels can go down very fast if I'm not taking enough of it. Medical providers haven't been much help in my recovery. They are not well trained in this problem. I really hope this helps ypu. Take care.
