Carla - silly you, Whole Paycheck is what we call Whole Foods! So you go to Whole Foods/Paycheck and just go to their gluten-free section, get the Sandwich Bread. Be warned, it has eggs and dairy....not a prob for me but I know for many....I will splurge on this as do get sick of the other cardboard I eat.

Washign the car....ugh....mine is currently just a stinky dog kennel on wheels...can't wait until I win the lottery (uh, guess I have to remember to buytickets to win? ) and I can just hand the keys over to the dogs, and say, here you go girls, the stinky jeep is all yours, knock yourselves out!! And then I can get my nice, clean, civilized hybrid SUV....whatever that will be.....

Okay is a porterhouse a good steak? I think I always buy rib-eye, don't know my cuts of meat very well (only what I learn on Dave Letterman)....

LOL :lol::lol: I didn't know the nickname for Whole Foods, but in my defense, we don't have Whole Foods ... We have Wild Oats.

A t-bone is basically a porterhouse without the tenderloin. It's good, but you don't get the tender part, but with the porterhouse you do. It's a huge, expensive steak!! New York Strip is one of the most flavorful cuts. Filets are more tender but not as tasty. For any more info, you'd have to ask the butcher ... that's all I know!

I have two minis ... one is a Mini Cooper, the other is a mini-van! Adam wanted to replace the mini-van with something else. I told him that I'd hate any car that seats 8, so why waste perfectly good money on a car to haul kids around. He really wanted me to have a new car (he always has had a nice car), so I said to get me a fun car since I hardly drive with all the kids, but it has to have a back seat because I would hardly ever get to drive a two-seater. So, he got me a MINI. I keep it very clean ... the van on the other hand, it's no longer my car, so I never clean it!! But the kids do occasionally.

 Quick drive by--feeling so-so---

Hey, nothing, imho, beats a NY strip steak. Preparation H--omg, I worked for a bit in the fashion industry in college--part-time, no biggie, but the product used then was anusol-the creme-not fishy, lol. I think it would take a truckload the way my eyes look today, lol.

Susan, I used your word when I went into the kitchen a little while ago. Ds was on the phone with one of his buds--I announced, "This kitchen is heinous!" Z says to his friend in his beavis voice--heh, heh, my mom said "heinous", heh, heh, rhymes with anus, lol." Teenagers are so fun....

An embarrassing moment with his brother--I am in the CVS when my oldest was around 14 and he was in another aisle and yells loudly, "Hey, Mom!! Here's the Preparation H you were looking for, and the Depends are over here too!!!" Sheesh. I don't know who they get it from..........

Gotta go... maybe back later... Richard, hmmm. I think you are a nut. I like that, lol.

Anyone else suffering through the news to see the CBS piece on celiac tonight??

I think it took 20 minutes to catch up on this thread and that is only since this morning.

I am not going to have Broncobucs take a photo of my hair as I am not going to spike it tomorrow. The length is still new to me and I just played with it this morning for a kind of normal hairdo. I will play with spiking it myself at a later time. I will make sure when I get my haircut in 3 weeks that I take my camera and have her take some photo's with it spiked. My hair is only about 1 1/2" long and that is why I needed to play with it. So, I am sorry you will have to wait to see the old lady with spiked hair.

I only wear a french manicure, but my tips are cream instead of white. I chip nail polish too bad and so that is what my manicurist does. Then it is not noticable if it slightly chips. I really hate chipped nail polish. My toes have no nail polish on them as I cannot bend to take it off if it chips. She gives me a pedicure once a month and I am about the only one she has that uses no polish. If I was wearing nail polish on my toes and hands, it would be matching. I am a type A personality.

What does "premature posting" mean?

so glad to help, Robbin! Heinous is such an excellent word...everyone in my life uses it (and many others, words friends and I made up in jr. high/high school - still in use!)....love the story of your teenage son yelling in the store....I've done that to friends, as a grownup

was reading on that other thread - am I the only one that likes Katie Couric? not suffering for me....am alerting many peeps in my life to turn it on....

made an attempt at Bumble Bars.....what a pisser....not so good thus far...they are in a slow oven right now, but, the sesame seeds tasted really bitter when I sampled  we will see how big a debacle this really is (debacle - another favorite and you just can't use it enough IMO  )

What does "premature posting" mean?

GAHHHHH!!!:lol::lol: that is from the OMG thread - - there were always so many pages, and we would get excited and start writing before we had read them all....hence, premature post....there is also a POST-mature post, I think, maybe when something went on pages/days ago and then responding? :P

Robbin--My husband likes to goof around a lot (understatement) and has done the same thing to me! He'll say in a loud voice: Hey Patti--did you forget your Preparation H? Then I get him back with something like: Thanks, did you remember to pick up your ear wax remover?

It's not that I don't like Katie Couric, it's that I don't like network news.

Chelsea,

Happy to have you here! :)

Carla- But it's even stranger when you're teaching them in the same room you took YOUR freshamn writing class in and now all you can think about is academic stuff. As opposed to back when all I could think about was how cute the graduate student was that was teaching the class.

You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
    • trents
@par18, no, Scott's use of the term "false negative" is intentional and appropriate. The "total IGA" test is not a test used to diagnose celiac disease per se. The IGA immune spectrum response encompasses more than just celiac disease. So, "total IGA" refers to the whole pie, not just the celiac response part of it. But if the whole pie is deficient, the spectrum of components making it up will likely be also, including the celiac disease response spectrum. In other words, IGA deficiency may produce a tTG-IGA score that is negative that might have been positive had there not been IGA deficiency. So, the tTG-IGA negative score may be "false", i.e, inaccurate, aka, not to be trusted.

This may be the problem. Every time you eat gluten it is like giving a booster shot to your immune system, telling it to react and produce antibodies again.
    • asaT
Scott, I am mostly asymptomatic. I was diagnosed based on high antibodies, low ferritin (3) and low vitamin D (10). I wasn't able to get in for the biopsy until 3 months after the blood test came back. I was supposed to keep eating gluten during this time. Well why would I continue doing something that I know to be harmful for 3 more months to just get this test? So I did quit gluten and had the biopsy. It was negative for celiacs. I continued gluten free with iron supps and my ferritin came back up to a reasonable, but not great level of around 30-35.  Could there be something else going on? Is there any reason why my antibodies would be high (>80) with a negative biopsy? could me intestines have healed that quickly (3 months)?  I'm having a hard time staying gluten free because I am asymptomatic and i'm wondering about that biopsy. I do have the celiacs gene, and all of the antibody tests have always come back high. I recently had them tested again. Still very high. I am gluten free mostly, but not totally. I will occasionally eat something with gluten, but try to keep to a minimum. It's really hard when the immediate consequences are nil.  with high antibodies, the gene, but a negative biopsy (after 3 months strict gluten-free), do i really have celiacs? please say no. lol. i think i know the answer.  Asa

I have had a long year of testing unfortunately still not diagnosed , although one thing they definitely agree I'm gluten intolerant, the thing for me I have severe back troubles they wouldnt perform the tests and I couldn't have a full MRI because I'm allergic to the solution , we tryed believe me  I tryed lol , another was to have another blood test after consuming gluten but it makes me so bad I tryed it for only a week, and because I have a trapped sciatic nerve when I get bad bowels it sets that off terribly so I just take it on myself now , I eat a gluten free diet , I'm the best I've ever been , and if I slip I know it so for me i have my own diagnosis  and I act accordingly, sometimes it's not so straight forward for some of us , for the first time in years I can plan to go out , and I have been absorbing my food better , running to the toilet has become occasionally now instead of all the time , i hope you find a solution 🤗
