Gluten In Scrambled Eggs Prepared By Restaurant

My office supplied breakfast to us employees yesterday. The selections were home fries, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage and gluteny biscuits.

I want to concentrate on the scrambled eggs as this restauarant catered the food and the foods were in the aluminum trays over the little burners to keep it warm. When I looked at the scrambled egg tray I noticed that the restaurant had lined the aluminum tray with a "tortila wrap" and I couldn't say if it was a Gluten Free wrap or not. Someone asked the caterer why they did that and the reply was to soak up any water/liquids that comes from the eggs.

So just want to throw this out there to warn all of you so that if you are involved in getting what is conceivably gluten free foods catered, instruct the caterer not to line the pans with a "wrap" or anything else that's full of gluten.

OH!! And I went to IHOP for breakfast with the whold family... and hubby and I were going to split an omelet cuz they are usually huge.. but after reading what was in it... AAAAHHH they mix pancake batter with the egg so it is lighter and more fluffy!!!!!! Whats with that.. so be careful with omelets too!!!

this has nothing to do with eggs, but since we are talking about 'gluten' hiding you won't believe what I saw on the Rachel Rae show on Friday (I think it was)

It was a 'tip of the day people send in as videos'.....

This woman was saying she had the perfect way to keep salads fresh until they are served..make ahead and cover with saran wrap....BUT GET THIS...SHE SAID...."And to keep the salad fresh and to not allow moisture to forum..LAY A SLICE OF BREAD OVER THE SALAD..AND WO-LA-- FRESH AND CRISP EVERYTIME.

SAT with my mouth open and thinking ..my god..what will they think of next ..now we have to ask people if they put a slice of bread on their plain salad greens.

The regular IHOP omelets do indeed contain pancake batter, but you can also order an omelet that does not use that mix.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
