Judyin Philly Enthusiast

HEY WHERE ARE YOU..???

WE'RE OUTSIDE PHILLY AND I THINK WE ARE GONA..GET..IT..

JUDY

Guhlia Rising Star

We're both from the Lancaster/Harrisburg area. I would love to get some snow. Tori has a brand new snowsuit for this year and she's dying to try it out. Right now things are just muddy around here. Yuck!

jerseyangel Proficient

They're saying that we're going to get it here in Jersey, too. I just saw a weather report that said it should start Tuesday afternoon, and go through to Wednesday.

Has anyone heard how much is expected?

Guhlia Rising Star

I heard 6" total here... I'll believe that when I see it!

TinkerbellSwt Collaborator

I am on the Jersey Shore and some said 3-6 inches, others say up to a foot... as of last nite, most all of the models had different stories.. at least for this area... I am always on the border line for the snow..

On 97.3 the river this morning it said 6-12 inches. Too bad, John has an "essential" job at the hospital or we would stay home, but why should I lose some PTO if he is going in.

I will get to enjoy it on Tuesday night though, movie night!!!!

jerseyangel Proficient

Wow! I didn't realize they were expecting that much. (Where the heck have I been :lol: )

By tonight all the milk, bread and shovels will be gone from the store shelves :P

JerseyAngel-

I know you will appreciate this, I was in Wegmans over the weekend, in Downingtown since we had taken a trip to Philly to pick something I purchased on Craigslist, the store was a mad house, and you know how their stores are always a zoo. Well you could barely get near the dairy areas and the deli. The bread looked picked through. That didn't bother me, I have no use for it. It seems as if people are stocking up.

:D I was at the Mt. Laurel store yesterday! We noticed the same thing--the deli was a zoo! I haven't seen it that busy since they first opened.

Well, I am getting to enjoy the snow today since I am home from work sick on the couch...but it does look pretty. I am curled under the blanket and I am looking out at the houses on the hill covered in snow.

I am not looking forward to the ice coming though. Still looks pretty.

:( Sorry you're sick today.

We only have had a slight dusting so far. I wonder what it'll look like by morning.

Hope you feel better! :)

Guhlia Rising Star

Amanda, sweetie, you better hurry up and feel better tomorrow... It's beautiful outside!!! We have about 3", maybe 4", here and Tori finally got to play in the snow. I took her sledding today. Of course, we had a big fiasco trying to find her boots and winter gloves. We ended up putting a pair of dress boots on her and a pair of knit gloves and only stayed out for 5 minutes. She had fun though. She discovered that you can eat the snow. :)

Feel better!!!

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I am starting to feel better, it's "my time" and I think between John having another round of the stomach bug, IVF, and every womans favorite time, it just hit me today.

I am so glad Tory got outside today! She will have fun tomorrow, I am hoping the ice doesn't knock out the power , so I already took a shower and cleaned up the kitchen.

We got a lot of snow already. You should make Tory a "snow cone" with orange juice. Enjoy your snow day. I am trying to explain to John that the predicted ice means we should not trek to the Med Center in the morning for work, I have a desk job so it is not a problem if I don't make it, John works on the dock so he is worried that if he doesn't go in and other people make it...well you get the point.

It does look pretty outside though :):):)

Guhlia Rising Star

We're getting sleet now. Such a shame to ruin all that beautiful snow. I'm glad I got Tori outside today. If there's any snow left tomorrow I'll make her a snow cone with juice. That sounds good.

I'm glad you're starting to feel a little better. No one should have to be sick for beautiful snow days.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Yep ice here now.

One of my coworkers lives in Manheim and she just called and asked if I thought I would make it in tomorrow and she said it is getting worse so she is unsure if she will be in, she had two cars wreck in front of her on 283 on her way home at 2:30, she said she has never been so scared.

jerseyangel Proficient

We ended up getting a couple of inches this afternoon--and now freezing rain.

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

We got snow all day started at 6:30 when we were getting up for work, even though it was on/off snow we have several inches nw ice and wind.

Guhlia Rising Star

It looks creepy outside with the snow glistening a little too much. Kind of like a horror movie. It's still raining a little bit here.

We only live a few minutes from Manheim. I can't imagine how she's going to make it to work tomorrow. We have a really thick coating of ice already and it still has all night to accumulate.

If you and John go to work tomorrow, please be careful! Especially since you go in so early.

Patti, how's the ice out your way? How far away are you from us?

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

HI my other PA weather birds....

just through open my guest bedroom window and there is a really really fine mist and it's freezing as it hits the skin...is that sleet???? I thought sleet was frozen rain drops.

so glad I don't have to go to work.

I worked in a hospital too and the pressure to open the medical library for the dr and other medical staff was kinda important...but some days we'd just have security unlock the doors and let it be open....on my would take days to put it back together.:)

I had a 'stressful day inside the house...so at 2:30 I got in the NEW CAR and set out to just drive...ended up at boarders and got a celiac disease/dvd of Nora Jones for hubby and a garden magazine for me.

The roads weren't that bad but kept and eye on it...and by the time I got home it was freezing..but it was a good 'mental health' move for me.

amanda, hope your feeling better and the rest of you all stay safe.

yeikes. let's pray we keep elect...last summer for 5 days was enough for me.

hugs all

I know, what you mean about electricity, we have gas heat/cooking here, but the therm is electric so no heat if we lose elect. Supposedly you can manually light the gas stove (electric ignite) but I am very paranoid about doing that.

Ang-I am trying to convince John to stay in tomorrow, but he works in Shipping/Rec. I don't think they will have a lot of freight coming in, all flights around here have been cancelled. Since I am having surgery in a 2-3 weeks he is worried he won't be able to take off for that if he calls in tomorrow. He works in a tricky department.

Judy-It is sleeting here and you can hear it sounds alittle like hail, you can hear it pinging and hitting the house and then the wind starts. It just sounds so violent, I bet it stings when it hits your arms/face.

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

yeh, that's what i thought sleet sounded like. i'll do another window/up ck----nothing---

not even the mist.

maybe it's coming my way..your farther East than i am.

guess there are some power outages.

judy

Guhlia Rising Star

Judy, when it's wet in the air, but freezes upon hitting or before it hits the ground it is called freezing rain. Sleet is kind of hard I thought, similar to hail, but wetter feeling. I dunno... :) It was definitely switching between sleet and freezing rain here. Yuck! The snow has a nice shiny crust to it now.

Amanda, surgery? Perhaps roads will be better tomorrow and you guys will be able to make it into work. I guess you kind of have to go in if he does, huh? That would suck. I used to work at the same place as my husband and it was so weird when one of us didn't make it to work. It was always like everyone was suspicious. Very odd. It was a small office though.

I hope all our other PA friends are okay with all this ice. Snow doesn't bother me, but ice freaks me out.

Pittsburgh is a mess! it wasn't too bad driving in yesterday, but driving home at 2 was starting to get challenging. Add to that the half inch of ice from last night and I am glad everything was canceled today!

For those of you not familiar, I don't think Pittsburgh knows what arteries are... all the streets I use to commute my 11 miles (40 minutes) to work have houses, some with driveways onto the street, but most with on-street parking. no "snow emergency routes" around here. So the plows have to do their best around cars. oh, and hills. It's illegal to have a flat street here.... Many have quite steep grades. And whether or not the street is plowed seems to vary greatly by neighborhood, because they have separate municipalities every 3 blocks. Makes life interesting!

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.
    • trents
@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
