Too Brain Fogged To Figure It Out!

Yesterday I got glutened badly. After I'd already been suffering from ear pain (fluid in ears) and extreme fatigue and joint pain all weekend from eating something bad Friday. I made myself eat even though I had no appetite and felt nausea.

Yesterday I ate: TraderJoe gluten-free pancakes and jam that I've been eating every day since I bought them. I ate a PayDay candybar and some plums for lunch. I worked hard cooking Hillshire Farms kielbasa with potatoes, red peppers, carrots, and onion and water. It was delicious. I also had some milk with Hershey's Syrup in it. The Hershey's and Hillshire kielbasa are items I don't eat usually. I had LOOKED up the Hillshire farms and specifically bought that one because I had read it was gluten-free.

I am feeling like the biggest idiot on the face of the earth. I keep getting sick. It's exhausting. I'm getting scared to eat again. I have no appetite.

I looked on the Hershey's website. I'd say it could be milk, but the gluten symptoms are there.

Somebody give me a clue, please.

I wonder if it's the soy flour in the Trader Joe's pancakes. It seems as though soy flour gives people "glutening" type symptoms. This appears to be a problem regardless of whether or not the person is intolerant to soy. Soy tends to accumulate, so even if the product didn't bother you the first time, it can eventually.

Granted, this is all just based on my own observations, not any sort of sound scientific theory. :)

Thanks, Mango. I just blogged and feel much better already. Although I ate the last of the pancakes this morning...we'll see.

I know this sounds crazy, but I really feel weird about the thought of having to throw out my veggie/kielbasa, since I worked hard on it and it's the only thing that appeals to me besides chocolate shakes, popsicles, mangos, almonds, and Cheetos.

Just wondering if there was MSG in the Hillshire Farms kielbasa? That effects me as though I ate gluten.

I know Cheetos has it in also.

I feel badly Glutened and have no idea what it can be. Only thing I have been having more so recently is soy milk... I make a hot choc soy milk each night ....At first it was great ...now I am wondering ....

My bet would actually be the Cheetos. Did you eat them within 3 days of this episode? Gluten can be a delayed reaction, for me it is a 3 day lag for tummy troubles. Cheetos have gotten me more than once, not everytime but often enough for me not to eat them again. CC issues are high with some companies and in my personal experience Frito Lay products are too risky to chance anymore. I have been got just too many times.

I don't know and they don't get us everytime but for me it has happened too often. I don"t have any problems with their Stacks and usually their plain potato chips are fine but things like Doritios and Cheetos for me are much more risky. Out of the family we have two that are supersensitive and two that tolerate much more CC. My DS and I are the ones who are most sensitive. What I do when I have any doubts about something is challenge with it when I know for sure that I eating low or no risk stuff otherwise.

I think Stax are made on a dedicated line so those shouldn't have any contamination issues. The other products I know don't have their own line, but I can't remember if it's a shared line or just a line in close proximity.

I'm fairly new at this, too, and have been glutened twice since April. One thing you have to be really careful of is items that say 'gluten free' or 'no gluten products added.' Even with these two things written on the packaging, somewhere else on the packaging it can sometimes say, 'processed in a facility with wheat, rye, oats, or whatever.' There are so many landmines with this diet. Don't beat yourself up. I ate Thai food today and almost asked them to add tofu. Then I remembered to ask if it was just plain tofu or pressed or baked tofu. The first of these is fine. The last two have malt in them, and malt is from barley. I also had to ask about the soy sauce, because soy sauce has vinegar, which has malt in it. I've been used to reading labels since I've been a vegetarian for thirty years and have had to look out for meat byproducts, but this diet is very, very tricky. I hope you figure out what it was that glutened you. Let us know if you do.

Soy lechtin is an emulsifier added to chocolate among other things. I can't eat it. It was definitely in the Pay Day you ate.

Just saw you got poisoned. My condolences. I kinda go into shock when that happens. I too struggle mightily to stay clean, but the options are few foodwise.

Sometimes the onset of symptoms for me is 24 hours or sometimes 48. You might go further back mealwise, because by my guess you did fine in your menu selections.

Just a few days ago I thot I'd done myself in, but some smoked oysters triggered a cleansing response (mega D and blood) then it was gone and I am unbloated and feeling pretty good.

      I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe.       Thankyou so much for your words.Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
