i really need some thoughts and prayers. Today we got an phone call that dans brother is in ICU and the prognosis is very bad. He has been sick for over an month and lost 30 pounds. Well he went to visit an friend and didnt know were he was at, so my neice went to pick him up and take him back to the city and it turns out he has spinal menigitis and it has spread to his brain and caused other problems, he is in a semi coma and they do not think he will make it. My husband just left to be with him. I stayed behing cause I am not feeling well at all. So keep my husband in your prayers that he makes it in time to tell his brother good bye, his brother is only 42. I feel so bad that I couldnt go. Right now i hate this celiac disease.

Thanks everyone, my husband made it there safely and with him now. He is in a drug induced coma and doesnt know what is going on around him. They wont have any definite answers til midnight tonight, they are not even sure if it is spinal menigits now or something worse. All my husband knows is his temp goes sky high then comes back down, but yesterday he was white as a ghost an today he has some color to him. My bil is very dark skinned so i bet he looked terrible.

Just keep all of your prayers coming, because he sure needs them.

Well they still dont know what exactly is wrong with him. But this morning they took him out of the coma and took off the breathing tube so my hubby could talk to him, he gagged as he was trying to talk and they put him back in the coma and put back the breathing tube. It has now turned into pnemonia. My hubby is on his way back and we will be heading back to the city tommorow once we make some arrangements.

The drs will call everyone tho in case they have to start anitbotics cause of it might being cantagious. Im kinda scared of my hubby coming back home in case he has been affected or the 2 kids that went with him.

Please keep praying that he will come threw this, even tho in my heart I really dont think he will.

One thing the drs said it could be is west nile virus, and that is very deadly in colorado.

thanks cheri, i wish them lots of wisdom also.

As of last night they still had no ideas but were leaning towards menigitis still. I really dont think it is that, i really think west nile or another virus that i dont even want to write down or even say out loud yet.

I am so mad at that hospital tho. My hubby took an rosary that was his moms to his brother. Well the nurses lost it. That rosary means so much to this family. Whenever someone is sick they get the rosary. We have had it since we got married. So it means alot to us. All i know is they better find it or they will have me to deal with and it wont be pretty.

But some test results do come back today so I will try to post before we leave to go tonight.

I hope they figure things out soon and are able to help him. I will be praying for him and for your family.

Thanks everyone, he is doing better, not out of ht woods but doing better. He is off the drug induced coma drug, and he is off of the breathing tube and breathing on his own. And last night my hubby was able to talk to him, he was very droggy and has no idea who hubby was till the other sister told him, and then he started to bawl. WE told him we would help with anything he needs and started to cry some more. But it was so nice to hear his voice. We will be heading up there tommorow for the weekend. They still dont have test results back tho so we dont know what we are looking for.

But i guess he went to the dr 2 months ago for stomach problems, they gave him a stool test and he did it wrong so he was redoing it this week when he got sick. So of course i sit here and think oculd this been caused from undiagnosed celiac, like could this be lymphoma.

I have been such an basket case threw all of this and now there is so much drama going on in the family and they are talking crap about me, his family has never liked me so its no surprise. But it still stresses me out with the stuff that they are saying. It is almost like they are trying to get my hubby to choice between me and the rest of the family. it has been a nightmare the last 24 hours with all the drama.

Dear Paula,

I still cannot believe those idiots lost the rosary! It blows your mind, doesn't it? I hope it will turn up soon. Maybe they will find it. Ask the angels to help. They willingly do so.

I did some research on West Nile in Colorado. There have been 440 reported cases so far this year! What county are you or your BIL in? The COPD and TB are also good possibilities with the lung damage, but I do not think meningitis causes that type of thing. However, West Nile can certainly cause swelling in the brain, which would explain the confusion your BIL was having. Meanwhile, we are all praying for you and your family!

Sincerely,

Jin

They did find the rosary, some nurse put it on his iv tube and never told anyone, you know how it is you never see the same nurse more then once in the hospital in the big city.

But he is now in his own room and out of ICU, and seems to be doing better, He is just very weak he started at 195 now is less then 140, and he is 6 feet 3 so you know that is a not a good thing. But the drs feel he will be home within the next 2 weeks which is a good thing, even tho he will still have a long long road ahead of him.

Jin thanks for your research but its not either of those, i so wish it was tho.

thanks everyone for your continued prayers.

he WAS doing better, did you see my other post about valley fever.

He is doing very very very bad now. The drs say if he dont eat he will die, and he wont eat. He is a very stubborn man, his german comes out and we know germans are stubborn.

My hubby went back to work today, but he is going to ask to take an leave of absense, we are almost out of vacation time. and go back tonight or the morning and make him eat. I feel it is best i just stay here, then i cant be blamed for the drama.

The sad thing is no family is up there, yet so many live in that city. I keep telling my husband, i do not want him to die alone. I think that is the saddest thing for anyone to die alone. He has no spouse and no kids so i really think he has no will to live. Which is so heart breaking.

I am going to call his caseworker today and try to get things set up for him, at least get someone in to do last rights or annoiting of the sick, and maybe get some hospice people in place. I am an hospice counselor, but i know they wont listen to me, so its best to get an stranger. I told my hubby is not like im planing on him dying, but its best to get prepared. I am also going to see about an candy stripper or volunteer that can go sit with him and try to get him to eat until my hubby can get back up there.

ok im rambling again, i havent slept but maybe an hour and been up and out of bed now since 4 am.

Dear Paula,

I have never heard of Valley Fever. I am going to look that up. That is a new one to me. Meanwhile, is there any possibility they could put in a feeding tube? I understand wanting to be prepared for the worst. Hopefully, your BIL will recover. Keep us posted! HUGS!

Thank goodness the rosary was not lost afterall. I own one. Although I am not Catholic, I like having one around. I also have a theory you can never have too many crosses! :) We all are praying things will go smoothly for you and your family with the leave of absence and such.

Sincerely,

Jin

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.

Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!

Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
