Gluten Free Cereals

I'm not sure if anyone is in my similar situation, but it seems I'm have a gluten flare up and I'm trying to pinpoint where it's coming from. I know that many here eat Puffins Honey Rice cereal and Corn or Rice Crunch Em's cereal as well. However, no where on these boxes do they state they are gluten free. In fact, on the Puffins cereal, there may be an issue of cross-contamination since the box states that this cereal is also produced on lines that make gluten containing cereal. Yes, with the Puffins (Honey Rice), the ingredients are gluten free, but I don't know about the manufacturing process. The same goes for the Health Valley Corn and Rice Crunch Em's. No where do these products state that they are gluten free. Has anyone eaten these products over a period of time and found themselves "sick" later on? If someone could chime in here, that would be great. I'm at a bit of a loss as to what is causing my "flare" up.

I've had the cereals you mentioned and haven't had any reactions. Although the Health Valley Corn and Rice Crunch Em's come close to a pretty good cereal, all of the other gluten-free cereals I've tried pretty much sucked. Plus they're expensive.

gorilla munch by enviro kids is really yummy and totally safe. Reminds me of kix...lately I have been eating fruity pebbles w/o a reaction too! Agreat place to go for answers is their websites or just call direct whenever u have a question..

I have tried many of the health store gluten free cereals and have been disappointed. Right now I am doing Dora Stars. I do not even care if it is a kid cereal, it is tasty.

We love Dora Stars too....and I love that is has more vitamins and 45% iron. We also just got the new Winnie the Pooh cereal that's out, and it's pretty tasty. It's so nice to have some mainstream choices that are only $2 a box!

If you are interested in trying a new cereal. Trader Joes has a gluten-free Granola that one of my daughters absolutely loves.

I do not eat the Puffins honey and rice, did not like them. I do eat the corn and rice crunch em's with no problems. Have you tried calling the manufacturer's to see if there are cc issues? Are there other things in your house that could be causing the flare ups? Sorry I could not be of more help.

I used to eat puffins all the time...they have a cinnamon that is only wheat-free but contains oats...the honey kind is the one I have eaten and really liked...never a problem for me, sorry girl. Have u been tested for other intolerences?

Enviro kids has gluten free peanut butter panda puffs that are fantastic.

Well, I did some poking around here on the site and I've found that several others have had issues with the Honey Rice Puffins. They used to state they were gluten free and the new box I have no longer states that, only wheat-free. I do believe it might be due to a CC issue. I also contacted the manufacturer for Corn and Rice Crunch Em's and they said they strive to do their best to limit CC, but they do no testing to make sure their products are gluten-free. So, not sure what to think.

We just got the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fruity crunch cereal, haven't tried it yet because we just bought it but it looks like a fruity rice cereal. I've been told that General Mills list all sources of gluten in their cereals, and the ingredients in this one are all gluten free.

I have had both the Mickey Mouse and Little Einsteins, good especially for the kids. I wished it was a little more fruity. I was expecting like a fruit loops sugary taste. It was still good though.

I love these cereal and always buy them General Mills is great with the gluten free labeling. I am very happy with them.

I would check with the company and ask if the products you are interested in are made in a dedicated facility, if not are they run on shared lines with products that have gluten ingredients or are the gluten-free products manufactured in a separate area.

If you are a really sensitive individual you may still react to things that don't have gluten ingredients but are made near or around other products that have gluten.

Just an FYI . . . I found Kaboom at Krogers today. It is also General Mills - no gluten sources listed - must have read the label a half dozen times. It's got the dehydrated marshmallows like Lucky Charms . . . heehehe, funny what little things give us a thrill.

My son will be thrilled about Kaboom! I called GM awhile back about the Dora stars, and as for CC they said there shouldn't be any since they list on the package if it's made on equipment that also processes wheat. You may want to call them again to confirm. I think that with the new regulations for labelling from the FDA< a lot of the items that were listed as 'gluten-free' will remove the label, since the requirements will be a lot more stringent.

this is my FAVORITE all-time cereal, better than those I so fondly remember (with gluten)! It is pricey, though, nearly $4 for a not-very-big bag. But SOOOOOO good and packed w/ nuts, etc. I put this on top of yogurt, w/ extra nuts and bananas, or I mix it with Mesa Sunrise Flakes to stretch its longevity. No problems!

I called about the Rice Crunchims and they are gluten free but made in a facility that puts wheat in other products. I eat Natures Path Organic Honeyed Corn Flakes. I really like them. SOmetimes I add raisens or dried apricots to them.

I had the new Winnie the Pooh cereal the corn puff-kix like things. I was very impressed. :) I am finishing up a box of Dora Stars now. Tonight, I choose the healthy route while at Wegmans, I picked up a box of their strawberry corn flakes. I am trying to eat a little more healty.

I eat the Rice Crunch'ems pretty much every day and don't have issues with them. I don't care for the Corn ones and have been too scared to try the Puffins. Ditto the poster who mentioned the Peanut Butter Panda Crunch and the Gorilla Munch...they're pretty good! And we occasionally get Cocoa or Fruity Pebbles as well :lol:

I haven't done the fruity pebbles in awhile since they are a little messier to eat...I eat my cereal dry at my desk at work.. :)

      learned I had a high PTH level in 2022 suspected to be due to low vit D  got my vit D level up a bit but still have high PTH   I am 70 yrs old (today in fact) I am looking for someone who also has hyperparathyroidism that might be caused by malabsorption

      I am on day 13 of eating gluten  and have decided to have the celiac panel done tomorrow instead of Wed. (and instead of extending it a few more weeks) because I am SO incredibly sick. I have almost no appetite and am not able to consume the required daily intake of calcium to try to keep up with the loss of calcium from the high parathyroid hormone and/or the renal calcium leak.    I have spent the past 15 years working hard to improve my health. I lost 50lbs, got off handfuls of medications, lowered my cholesterol to enviable levels, and in spite of having end stage osteoarthritis in both knees, with a good diet and keeping active I have NO pain in those joints- til now.  Almost all of my joints hurt now I feel like someone has repeatedly punched me all over my torso- even my ribs hurt- I have nausea, gas, bloating, headache, mood swings, irritability, horrid flatulence (afraid to leave the house or be in any enclosed spaces with other people- the smell would knock them off their feet) I was so sure that I wanted a firm diagnosis but now- I'm asking myself is THIS worth it? esp over the past 2 yrs I have been feeling better and better the more I adjusted my diet to exclude highly refined grains and processed foods. I didn't purposely avoid gluten, but it just happened that not eating gluten has made me feel better.   I don't know what I would have to gain by getting a definitive diagnosis. I think possibly the only advantage to a DX would be that I could insist on gluten-free foods in settings where I am unable to have access to foods of my choice (hospital, rehab, nursing home)  and maybe having a medical reason to see a dietician?   please let me know if it's reasonable to just go back to the way I was eating.  Actually I do plan to buy certified gluten-free oats as that is the only grain I consume (and really like) so there will be some minor tweaks I hope and pray that I heal quickly from any possible damage that may have been done from 13 days of eating gluten.

      So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

      I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this.Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
